It's been many years since your original post, but I thought I would respond just in case. I just recently (April 2012) discovered information about a possible Rigley from Co. Wexford in my line.

My 3rd great grandmother's maiden name may be Catherine Rigley, according to a recently discovered marriage certificate of one of her children. We know from her obituary that she was born in Kiltealy, Co. Wexford. She was born around 1813. She married a John Kerwin and immigrated to Philadelphia, PA, in 1847, and died in that city in 1885.

This is the first we've heard of this surname in our family tree and we have no more info about that family. Future research of Philadelphia records of later USA-born children might confirm this, but we haven't been able to check yet. I'm am happy to share more details with any interested parties.

I was wondering where I might purchase a copy of your mother's books. I was in York last weekend researching my husband's family (mainly spent photographing headstones on a very hot day!) when I came across two of her books in the library - Amelia and also Pioneer Father/Pioneer Son.

Hi, I have a Margaret Ridley b.1837 in Bishopwearmouth, mother = Jane but no father known.
Jane also had daughter Jane, b.1839; William b.1844; Robert b.1847; Elizabeth b.1850. Her husband does not appear in the 1851 census but she says she is a Mariner's Wife. (attached)
I am following Jane (b.1839) who had a daughter Margaret Ann b.1861, who married Martin Curran in 1877.

Can anyone help? I am looking for any info on Samuel Ridley born abt 1797. He was a shoemaker.
I have no details of where, nor his wife's details.
His son George was born in Marylebone London England abt 1830 and became a carver/gilder. Any help would be greatly appreciated - I have been searching for months!!

Hi Mark I have just gotten off the phone with Paul and my head is spinning from all this..I love that fact that I have 2 brothers. I am 53 I have 3 sons Doug 33 James 29 and my baby Craig 26 I also have 4 beautiful Granddaughters Zoe 12 Dakota 6 Madison 7 months and my new addition Candice 5 weeks.

Where do we start...?
I'm 41 and live just outside Liverpool in the UK. I'm married to Sarah and have a son called Andrew(He's 7). I've lived in and around Liverpool all my life. With my mum (Sheila) when she was alive and then with 2 of my uncles and their family during my late teens and early twenties. I met Sarah in 1991 and following a long engagement (The longest on record she says)we got married in 2003. We then had Andrew in 2004.
I have many cousins on my Mum's side of the family and I've been very close to them while I've been growing up. I haven't had any contact with any of Dad's family - although we did live with Dad's mum when I was a baby in Huyton in Liverpool.
This all seems very strange. I can't believe we've made contact.

Where do I start I am in complete shock..my mum died in 95 and the last contact that I had with him would of been around the same age but mum wouldn't tell me anything about him my nan used to tell me some stories that's how I found out that I siblings out there and I so wanted to know them.I have attached a pic of my 3 sons Douglas James & Craig and my husband Benny I also have 4 beautiful Granddaughters. How about you? There is so much I want to say and ask I just don't know where to start..they say short is sweet..I live in Sydney and yes I seen Paul's posting as well..tell me a bit about you..

My goodness! What a day! I've just received a message from Paul today who is also a son of our dad. I never knew he existed until today!
Have you seen the posting from Paul?
I'm sorry to hear that your brother Terry has died. Is your mum still alive? My mum died when I was 16. Dad left us when I was about 4 and I haven't had any contact from him since. As far as dad having a girl in the uk, my mum had only me so I'm not sure if there is another daughter over here.
Are you still living in Australia?

To my knowledge, Dad has got a sister who lived in Liverpool but I have never had any contact with her.
Dad left when I was about 4 and, up to receiving your message, I've not had any contact from him or his family.

1. Margaret Redley, born say 1692, was presented by the churchwardens of Washington Parish, Westmoreland County, Virginia, on 28 June 1710 for having a bastard child. She may have been identical to "Margrett a Servt. to Calleb Butler" who was presented by the churchwardens of Washington Parish on 28 May 1707 and 22 February 1710 for "fornication & haveing a Mulatto bastard." On 24 June 1713 she and Edward Buss "a Mulatto" were presented by the grand jury for fornication and cohabiting together [Orders 1705-21, 58, 66, 136a, 140a, 143a, 145a, 155a, 217]. She was probably the mother of

i. Moses, born say 1710, owned land in Orange County, North Carolina, adjoining George Gibson and Thomas Collins [Orange County Loose Papers, vol. V, no. 131; vol.VI, no. 579]. He was listed in Granville County in the list of Jonathan White in 1750 [CR 044.701.23] and he and his wife Mary were "Mulatto" Orange County taxables in 1755 [N.C. Archives T&C, Box 1, p.8]. He was called a poor debtor in February 1761 when William Chavis sued him in Orange County court [Haun, Orange County Court Minutes, I:459]. He was taxable on a tithe and 4 horses in Henry County, Virginia, in 1782. He was probably related to Moses Ridle, an "Indian" tithable in John Wilson's Pittsylvania County tax list for 1767.

hi There you two,
i left a post and no reply so will take the time now.
Edward Ridley came to WA in 1842 per Simon Taylor with his wife Amelia nee Collins, and 5 of their sons. The eldest came as Charles Ridley but , in fact, was Charles Collins from whom i am descended.
Edward died in Guildford in 1846 before they got to York.
Amelia later married a James Cook and had several daughters by him in York.
The sons did very well and their descendants are everywhere in WA. to the effect if any have that name or the names Sims, Reynolds, Collins one has to think one is related.
My mother has written the story of Amelia and Edward and their sons. The second book of the next generation has recently been released.
The ridleys are evidenced in Northampton, Geraldton, the Gascoyne, early York and much of the wheatbelt of WA. The decendants of Charles Collins are the same.

I have a Jane Ridley Born: 15 August 1802 - Peasmarsh, Sussex, England, UK Died: April 1858 - Peasmarsh, Sussex, England, UK. She married a William East (Born: 1775). They had a daughter Jane East (Born 1824) Jane East married a John Raward (Born: 1828 Died: 1904). John & Jane along with their children William & Ellen, arrived in Australia 12 October 1853 aboard the "Ellenborough” Port of Departure: Portland, Dorset, England, UK

she has gone onto writing 2 books on this family and one of th shire of the upper gascoyne.

I think we are both descended from the same Ridley line but I can't prove it. You said your Jeremy had some uncles. I there a Matthew Ridley born ca 1805 Among them and does he have a famiy?
I have a big empty place between William Ridleys son Matthew and the place where I can pick up my family again. The tiniest clue would help. Thanks.

I think i descend from William Ridley from England who settled in Burke Co. N.C. and worked their way down to Geogia and Tennessee.

I have Georgia Ridley's which I am just now beginning to research but I do have one, David W. Ridley, who could have been born in Tennessee, Georgia or Mississippi to Eligah/Elias And Hannah Elizabeth Ridley.
This would have been ca 1875-1890.
I am sorry I can't help you but do you have anything that might relate to my problem? Thanks for any clue at all.

I have a James Gilbert Ridley in my family tree born 1871. He did marry a Louisa Frances Gibbs in 1893 in Brentford, Middlesex, England. I have that they had 2 children. Manfred Ridley (probably your Winifred) born 1894 and a James Gilbert Ridley born in 1898.

James Gilbert Ridley born 1871, his parents were
Edwin Ridley (1840 – 1911) and Ann Frances Farley (1834 – 1909). Edwin's parents were Joseph Ridley (1799 – 1875) and Ann Thrift (1800 – 1878).

Joseph's parents were Mark Ridley (1762 – 1809) and Hannah Harmer (1751 – 1808)

Mark's parents were William Ridley (1732 – 1809) and Mary Winton (1715 – 1793). William also married a Martha Mantle but i cannot find any children listed for them.
This is as far back as I've gotten and I'm stuck but hope this might help you.
