Hoping someone has more information on Margaret "Peggy" Rife who married George Arbaugh on October 18, 1832 in Meigs County, Ohio. She was born around 1810, and I believe she is the daughter of either Joseph, Jacob or Henry Rife, sons of Joseph Rife and Margaret Carpenter of Gallia County, Ohio.

Thank you!

I had been searching under Haun, but the marriage was under Hohn so I never would have found it unless you gave me the Virginia Marriage collection info. All of my Rife/Haun searches only brought up Shenandoah County marriages. I also found the book HISTORY OF THE DESCENDANTS OF JOHN HOTTELL. I used it to fill in a lot of blanks. Thanks for that too!

I am doing this for my brother in law. Henry Haun and Mary Rife are his 4th grgrandparents. His 3rd are Daniel Sheets and Susannah Haun. His 2nd are Samuel Sheets and Lydia Coffman.
Thank you for all your help. Have a great New Year.
Maryann Flaherty

Yes, there are records of the marriage of Mary Rife and Henry Haun (hohn). On Ancestry the marriage is located under "Virginia Marriages 1740-1850. The date of their marriage is 5 May 1792 in Shenandoah County, Virginia. Also there is a book by the title of "The History of the Descendants of John Hottle" which lists Mary Rife as the wife of Henry Haun and the daughter of Christian Rife and Elizabeth Hottle. You can view excerpts of this book online. I also have Susannah marrying Daniel Sheetz in 1817. Henry and Mary Rife Haun were my 4th great grandparents. Their son Jacob was the father of my second great grandmother, Catherine Haun. Catherine married Ephriam Mowrey. The Mowrey's also lived in Shenandoah County, Virginia and came here to Ohio during the Civil War. The Sheetz family is also intertwined with the Mowrey family through marriage.

mamap-I am looking for this family too. Susannah Haun was born 1796 in VA. Her 1817 marriage to Daniel Sheetz(s) said that she was the daughter of Henry. There are a few trees
on line that say that Mary Rife was her mother. I would love a reference to that--perhaps a marriage record of
Mary Rife and Henry Haun? Do you have any more information?
Thank you,
Maryann Flaherty

I'm trying to pick up on the Rife side, but have no idea where to find adoption records for Losen & Statton Rife. Do you know if they were legally adopted? If so, I might be able to track down more information.

Hi All,

I have been researching the Rife side of my family. I have it going a bit farther back, but if your family includes Abraham Rife who married Ann Hannigan in VA, had seven children and moved to Washington Co, Indiana some time before 1816 where Ann died shortly after their arrival; Polly (Mary) Collier who was his second wife and mother of 5 sons and 1 daughter before they moved to the Effingham / Clay / Jasper Counties area of Illinois; and their son John who married Lucinda Parker - then we are related.

Would love to exchange info with all. I am in the process of working on Abraham's father and grandfather.

Sue

I have been researching this same line for about six months now and am making good progress. It sounds like we all share Abraham Rife from Virginia via Indiana and then Illinois as our paternal Grandfather.

I descend from him through John Abraham Rife. I would like to share what I have found and also ask if anyone has any more information concerning John Rife/Lucinda Parker. I can not document that Lucinda's last name was Parker or that she ever married John Rife. He appears on the census with her, but I find no marriage document. I do find a document saying he married Sophia Key in 1850 and then Nancy J Creech in 1870.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know any further info on Charles after I find him in the 1910 census in Frontier County, NE and he registered for the WWI Draft on June 5, 1917 in that county. I think Aaron Kenneth RIFE was his only child who was raised by his grandparents after his mother Caroline died in 1915.
I know this is a "dead" feed now, but I hoped to post it out there just on case. I am the grandaughter of William Henry Haste (child of George W. Haste and Matoka Rife). After looking through the census records it all seemed pretty straight forward but then I looked through the message boards and was thoroughly confused.

According to the census Matoka had 6 brothers and sisters (Addie, Adora, Emma B., Ruby, John & Florence). Her parents were Sarah Frances Debruiler and Samuel Joseph Rife. Matoka went on to marry (in 1901 in Indiana) George W. Haste and have 7 children (Florence Z., Martha M., Ellie I., Simon G., Gennieva/Jennieve, Dora D. and my grandfather William Henry).

However, according to these message boards Matoka may have had a different name (Florence Mitoka - which is confusing because she has a sister named Florence Z. according to the census), been an Osage Indian (even though she is listed as white on the census), may have had siblings named Frank and Nova even though they aren't listed on the census as Sarah and Samuel Rife's children, may have died in 1928 according to the census or in 1989 according to the message boards. So, as you can tell, I am confused! Can anyone help me?

Thanks! :-)

David Rife

I am having a bit of a dilemma. I have a George Rife b 1801 in Adams County, Pennsylvania. His parents are David Rife and Mary Snyder. Mary is the daughter of Martin Snyder and she marries Thomas Fisher @ 1805. She married David Rife 1799. The 1790 and 1800 census for York/Adams county shows David Rife (Sr.) and Martin Snyder as neighbors. I believed these to be David & Mary's fathers. (Their mothers being Mary Wofart Rife and Cahterine Amon Snyder.)
I have also information that shows David Jr married Elizabeth @1801. He dies in 1827 and the Adams County newspaper lists for Orphans court in Jan 1831 David Rife, widow Elizabeth, Catherine, John, Polly, Mark, Andrew, Susanna, and David.
My question is did David marry Mary Snyder then divorce and marry Elizabeth. David and Mary's son, George, lived in Harrison County Ohio as did the Snyders and Fishers after 1802. Did Mary leave her husband and take her young son to Ohio with her parents?
Thoughts? Clues? Sources? HELP!

Do you remember any of his children? My mother was the oldest. Patricia was her name. Then came another daughter, a son, then 2 more daughters. I was in a walker in the restaurant, roaming the floors. The most I remember about James is he drove semi-truck for mayflower van lines. When he would bring me trinkets from the road, he would bring them to me in his semi-truck. I was in 3rd grade and 8 years old when he passed. My current e-mail is jnnttferguson@yahoo.com. Please write to me there so we can exchange and talk with more details.
