Hello

Thank you for your message. I'll be happy to share information. Feel free to ask specific questions. What would help also is if I could have a copy of the family tree that you already have so I can fill in the gaps from my info.

Exciting to make contact.

Percy is my Grandfather.

If I remember correctly, Frederick served in the British Army in India and ended up being in charge of all the horses for the Army in India and attained a very high rank.

I also have pictures of Broomhead hall which was the family seat for many hundreds of years. I have other family pictures that may be of interest.

Please place the word "WINGS" in the subject line if you contact me direct at my main email address:
jrimington@creativedirector.com

I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards

Jonathan Rimington

Would love to swap info. I am a descendant of Percy's sister, May Blanche Rimington, who married into the Bacon family. I have plenty of info gleaned from online genealogical research and have very recently been in touch with a descendant of one of Percy and May's sisters, Lucy Ellen Rimington, who has kindly given me a Rimington Tree drawn up by her late great aunt in 1970 and on which you and your sister, Avril, are listed. I am, however, much hazier on the descendants of Hugh Henry, Percy William and Frederick Wilson who seem to have been born/live abroad in USA and Australia.
I hope very much to hear from you.
Regards,
Joanna Scott (nee Bacon)

I have certainly heard of Frederick Rimington, son of William Rimington. One of William's other children, May Blanche Rimington was my 2x great grandmother. She married into the Bacon family of Sir Nicholas Bacon/Sir Francis Bacon repute.
I have quite a bit on the Rimington family which I would be willing to share with you but am a little hazy on those branches who moved abroad such as Frederick and his descendants and that of Frederick's brothers, Hugh and Percy. I would love to know more about these branches of the family if you have information to share?
Regards,
Joanna Scott (nee Bacon)

Hello all,

I too have Rimington ancestry. My 2x great grandmother was May Blanche Rimington, sister to Lucy, Hugh, Fred, Percy, Edith, Hilda and Violet. She married Rev. Reginald Bacon and my maiden name was Bacon.
I have very recently been in contact with a descendant of Lucy's in Canada through whom I have gleaned a little more information (and a Rimington family tree) and corroborated that which I already had through my own research on genealogy websites. Avril, you and your brother are on this tree.
There are still a few blanks and uncertainties though and I'd love to be able to fill them in. I would also be willing to share my information with you should you wish to see it.
Hi Jean - Indeed there could be a connection. The nearest candidate we found otherwise was in Battersea, but I was not convinced. Mile End is the right place and born 1883 makes her the right age. We have no idea what happened to her before or after. She could not have been married to my g-grandfather Jasper Boniston Willey at least until some time after 1920 because my g-grandmother Anne was still living, at least until 1920 (identified as a witness on my grandparents' marriage certificate). Do you know anything more about Anne Rimmington ?

I am researching the family history of my Remmington family to find they changed from Remington (in the 1880s) and then from Rimington (in the 1700s). All names are quite uncommon, so if you are a Remmington, Remington or Rimington, then we may be related. Just looking to link up trees and to fill in blanks - any information would be great - I am willing for you to view my tree if it would help. thanks

Hello Lynn.
You wanted to know who else I have found.
Starting with Charles the publican b.1816, I have 10 brothers and sisters for him but this has not been compiled by me and it needs to be checked out. I only have four children for Charles, Thomas b. 1840, Charles b. 1841, Francis b. 1843 and Sarah Ann b. 1846. I don't know if there would be any more as Charles wife Jane died in1847 and he remarried Sarah later.
I have not yet had time to discover the descendants of his children except for my own branch (Francis).
Francis and his wife Harriet Cole had the following children: Walter Charles b.1868(I am informed that he was a well known cricketer), Harriet Matilda b. 1869, Francis George b. 1871(your connection),Thomas b. 1873, Fred Alexander b. 1874 (my grandfather) and Edith Annie b. 1877.
I have discovered that Fred Alexander and his wife Rose Ada had 16 children and there are three big gaps where others may have been born so the total may be 19. Five of these died at an early age, never-the-less I had lots of uncles and only one aunt.
I hope that this is helpful to you.
I would be interested to know the descendants of Francis George if you have time. I have also recently connected another branch of the tree to Charles b. 1841.
If you need more info please do not hesitate to ask.
Best wishes Colin.

Hello Lynn,
In reply to your message, Charles Rimington is my great, great Grandfather. I have details of four of his children, Thomas b. 5/7/1862, Charles b. 20/2/1841, Francis b. 17/2/1843, Sarah b. 10/1/1846. There are probably others that I have not found yet. I am descended from Francis. I have found Six of his children, one of them is Fred Alexander who is my grandfather. I do have details going back to a James Riminton (note the missing G) born circa 1720 but the details have not been checked for accuracy and need further research. I will be happy to share information with you if you are interested. Are you descended from any of the first four that I have found ? or do you know of others that I have not discovered ? I shall be away for two weeks and unable to respond until I get back.
Best wishes, Colin.

Agnes Rimmington - London

Looking for any information at all on Agnes Rimmington who married Jasper Willey in Hackney, east London, and had a son Andrew Dalby Willey in 1911. Cannot find any trace of the marriage, so it may not have been formalised (the fact that Jasper is listed as 'bachelor' in a subsequent 1920 marriage, supports this idea). Also, the child went into an orphanage and was later adopted, so she may well have died in 1911-12 - but unable to find death record under either surname.
Any information at all would be welcome ! - Steve Henley

Hi Sharon, I had no luck on the Sarah name in the Rimmington line but did have some, in Thorne, with the singe M. Sarah Ann born 1841 and Sarah Ann born 1889.(I have to believe that these are in the same family) I have a Sarah who died in 1840. I think Thorne is only about 35 miles from Newark. In the Freebmdweb site I do see the marriage of Elisha Beard with the correct date but cannot seem to connect it to Sarah.

If I see a connection as I track back I will let you know.

Regards

Graham

Hi Emilie

The two twons you mention are close to each other and are about 40 miles from Thorne, "as the crow flies". I don't have any idea what that distance would be in the 1700's. I would say that it is possible they are connected. Lincolnshire does not seem to have such a good free site for searching BMD's from what I can tell. Where is your location? I am trying to do this from the US.

Hi Graham thanks for the reply. The only information on my connection to the Rimmington family is as follows.
g-g-grandmother was Sarah Rimmington. She married Elisha Beard in Newark in 1852. At some stage the family migrated to Australia, then onto New Zealand before eventually resettling in Melbourne, Australia. It appears that the oldest son of each of their descendants has the christian names William Rimmington. The spelling has changes between double m, single m, and e instead of i. Do you have a Sarah in your Rimmington family? Would appreciate any help on obtaining further information.
Regards
Sharon

Hi Emilie, Do you know where in Lincolnshire your family was from? I am tracking down several Richard Rimmingtons in Thorne. Some of the family did come from Haxey, Lincs. But I was struck by the name Richard. That is certainly a thread that runs all the way up my family. Throne seems to be the center for us around 1800 and then a migration to Hull.

Hi Sharon, I think this is a common problem. My Rimmington family are centered about Thorne near Doncaster and I can find the same family registered with a single "m" and then elsewhere with a double "m". There can be no confusing the familes as they had so many children that the chances of two families, one with one "m" and one with a double "m" having the same children names in Thorne are remote and unlikely. The change seems to be about 1800 to 1820. When you thnk that my Grandmother signed her Marriage Cert with an "X" it's not difficult to imagine that they may have easily missed an "m" out of their name. Even the census recorders might have transcribed it incorrectly. Pam Lyndoe, (see other messages) has helped me significantly and she may have a comment on the spelling issue.

Hi Paul, My grandfather was called Richard and was born in Hull but the 1901 census showed that he was born in 1876. His father was, I think, also called Richard and was born in 1845. I do not know my grandmothers name and so I cannot tell who he was married to. My Grandfather had many children and by current accounts there was twenty. Yes, I spelt it out to avoid anyone thinking it's a typo! Names I have are.....Ann Elizabeth, Christine, John Henry, Gertrude,Arhur, Bella, Alice, Dorothy (My mother), Lilly, Emily, Olive, Harry and Wally. I don't have the others. Are we talking about the same family?

She may be the sister of your Anne Blackwell, wife of George Nottinghamshire. George could be a brother of Charles.
Hi Becki
I'm from NZ and have a Rimmington in my line. My gggrandfather was an Elisha Beard and he married Sarah Rimmington. Their son William, my g grandfather was born in Lincolnshire around 1850-1857. Unsure when they came to NZ but it seems they had a number of sons. William married a Martha Way, who was born in Dorsetshire, in Auckland. New Zealand in 1887. The only child of the union that I have discovered at the present time is my grandfather Clarence Charles Henry William Beard who was born on the 29th of November 1884 in Napier NZ. From what I can gather these three generations were all bricklayers by trade.
I hope to learn more about children when I receive William's death certificate next week.
There may be a connection to a Henry Elisha Beard born 1864 and died 1910. He was the first ALP member of Parliment for a place called Batman in Victoria, Australia.
I have absolutely no information on the Rimmington side.
Could you contact me if you think we are related to your information.
Hello Rutland Rim's.
I am researching my family tree and have discovered that my grandfather Fred Alexander Rimington was born in Oakham - Feb 1875. His father was a Francis Rimington, a baker by trade. It is thought that Francis was born at Whissendine in 1843 and his father was Charles the publican of the Rose & Crown pub in Whissendine, but this is yet to be verified. Does anyone have any details that might confirm this link ? I will be grateful for any information.
Colin Rimington
Ellis Island is in New York

From the Ellis Island web page,

From 1892 to 1924, more than 22 million immigrants, passengers, and crew members came through Ellis Island and the Port of New York. The ship companies that transported these passengers kept detailed passenger lists, called "ship manifests."

These people can sought out by searching for them
on the Ellis Island home page.

Go to the URL below for the home page or
type in "Ellis Island" at google or any search engine

http://www.ellisisland.org/

Rimington is a village in the parish of Gisburn, which
is in Yorkshire, which is in Northern England. It is very common for someone to be named after a place they came from hence the Middletons, Preswitches, Kenyons and others, however the early parish registers of Gisburn from 1558 - 1745 mention no one with a surname of RIMINGTON, however they may have left the area prior to 1558 and took on the name e.g. John from Rimington or just John Rimington.
