Sorry to bother you and I have no idea if you have any interest in the Farrell family, but I was wondering if you have Margaret's place of birth as St. Paul. The census (1860 1870 etc.)say Missouri and this seems logical as this is where her sisters were born and father killed in 1859 over a dog. However, I do know her father (James Farrell)had a land claim in St. Paul and her brother in law Thomas Stagner settled the land claims for all four sisters at various times(probably as they became 18). So I do know there was a connection to ST. Paul but I was wondering if you have seen or read anything that says she was born there or where this idea originated.
Again, you may be the wrong person to ask but there aren't many leads out there about this family.
Thans so much for your time and help.
Jerry

Disregard previous-I see the 7 April is the date for the enumeration. So, would you happen to have any info on the date of the death of Margaret Farrell Risley? Last I have is the 1915 Ks census and then she is missing(presumed died) from the 1925 Ks census. I haven't found anything in the 1920 Fed census.
Thanks for your help and if you would like any info on the Farrell family, let me know.
Jerry

Hi,
I am second thoughts about his parents are Anne Hyde and Richard De Risley, Esq., because I don't find any support for this claim. I have also found out the hard way that family search . org is hit and miss, and already had to scrap a lot of my tree for over crediting that source. I really do not want to scrap his parents tree line, but I don't want wrong information about his parents. I also can't locate any birth or baptism records for him, that would show who his parents are. Please help.
Thanks,
Suzy

I am looking for evidence that Sarah Risley, who married Ezekiel Chase, probably in Gill, MA, and lived later in Hindsdale, NH and Bethel, OH, is the same Sarah Risley, born 1760 in Glastonbury, CT to David Risley and Naomi Strickland. I find several references to this, but nothing has citations. Did David or Naomi leave probate? Thank you. Michael

Wow, it's been years since anyone has been talking about the Risley's - even on other boards it seems to have just stopped. Is not more new information coming out? Is anyone still here?

I am the great granddaughter of Luvenia Estes. Her mother was Marinda Risley Estes and Marinda's mother was Sally Miller Brown Risley Anderson. Marinda married Ephraim Estes. They had two girls and two boys. The oldest, Sarah Estes TATE, my Gram called her Saree. My father, John Creason, knew Gram's two brothers who also moved to Calif. like Gram did. That's where my dad's family lived after they left Oklahoma. Gram (Luvenia) told us that her mother, Marinda, was a half breed Cherokee and knew herbal medicines and would help the local doctor when there were disease outbreaks. Interestingly, I have found a Dr. Estes and wonder if this was Marinda's brother-in-law. Gram told us that Marinda's mother (Gram's grandmother) was a full blood Cherokee (Sally Miller). Sally's Miller family moved into the southern Missouri area in 1810 that later became Ozark county, just north of Marion county in Arkansas where the Estes' later came. The Risley's were also in Ozark county until Benjamin Risley died and Sally married Arch Anderson. He raised the Risley kids. They moved to Marion county, Arkansas after Sally and Arch married. My Gram was born in Marion county in 1883. She died in 1968 in San Bernardino, Calif. She and I were buds and I spent as much time with her as I could when growing up. She would also get on the Greyhound bus and go back to Oklahoma and Arkansas every year to visit family. And she had a lot of them there. She married Thomas Clyde Brannan of the Watova, Okla. area in 1905 or so. Her whole family and some extended family members had moved to the Nowata area around 1902. Gram and Sarah both married there. Gram was already pregnant with my grandmother when she got married to Thomas Clyde, the scoundrel. His father, David Brannan, ran the ferry on the Verdigris river and had a farm. That's where my grandma grew up. Gram and Thomas Clyde had several more children. One girl, Dolly, was the only sister that my grandma had. At 9 years old, Dolly contracted pneumonia and died and she is buried in the Nowata cememtary as is Ephraim and a lot of the others including David Brannan. David was a brother to the famous Sam Brannan in Calif. who let the news out about the gold being found at Sutter's Mill (he worked there). But he didn't say anything until he bought up all the picks, etc. first. He became a millionare selling stuff to the miners and buying stock in the gold mines. My Gram and Thomas Clyde also had several sons and I knew them all very well. My father is 90 on Feb. 17 and very active still. He was the first grandchild for Gram and Thomas Clyde - my grandma was only 16 when he was born in Oklahoma in 1921. He knew his uncles very well and he knew Gram's brothers, his great uncles.

We've been trying to verify Gram's statement that her mother was a half breed and her grandma a full blood Cherokee. We do know that in 1810 it was mostly Cherokee and other native tribes who were living in the territory and that's when the Miller's came. We also know that Miller is a name in the Cherokee tribe. There was another family that moved into that same area in 1800 with the last name Brown. That's another name that Cherokee families have on the rolls, etc. The Brown family had a son, Gid Brown, and he was Sally Miller's first husband. They married in 1930 when she was 15 and he was 30. They were married less than 10 years (and had one child) when Gid was murdered by a pedlar. That's when Sally married Bejamin Risley. They had 7 kids and Marinda was one of the younger ones. The family lived in the Theodosia area of Ozark county, real close to the Arkansas border. I found a lot of this information in the S.C. Turnbo stories - also stories of Mitch and Silas Risley, sons of Benjamin's brother, Burton. And even their dad, Silas, is in at least one of them. There are stories with the Estes', too. It's amazing to me to hear people talk about Sarah, Gram's sister, and then say that they don't know anything about Luvenia/Gram as we knew her so well! She left Oklahoma and went to southern Calif. when my grandma and grandpa took their 2 year old son (my dad) and moved there. Gram was married to another husband by then (Thomas Clyde left her for a much younger woman and took the kids, too), but she left him so she could stay with her daughter and grandson. She married for a third time to John Kolleas, who followed her from Oklahoma. I knew John and my dad knew him as "grandpa" while growing up because Thomas Clyde, his real grandpa, was in Wyoming by then and dad didn't meet him until he was an older teenager and went to Wyoming. John and Gram eventually divorced (and he married a younger woman - sheesh!). He lived next door to the house where he and Gram had lived and he treated me like a granddaughter. I am the oldest child of my father but not the oldest great grandchild for my Gram. She and I just clicked for some reason. She had a big picture of Dolly, her daughter, on her living room wall. Dolly was all dressed up with curls and bows, sitting in a fancy cart with a big white goat with long hair in harness - and had long horns. Gram told me about Dolly once as we looked at the picture. I just found Dolly's grave two months ago. And Gram's father, Ephraim. And her father-in-law, David Brannan and her sister, Sarah. I have not found a grave for Marinda Risley - this is stumping me. Does anyone know where she is buried? From what we can find out, she died in 1935. Which is kinda funny because my mom is swearing that Gram always told her that her mom died when Gram was young and her dad had to raise them - but he died in 1904, long before 1935 so this is stumping us. So, if any of you Risley descendents from Bejamin and Marinda in Arkansas would like to contact me, here's my email: libertymtn@yahoo.com

And after being born and raised in Calif....I ended up coming right back to my family's state of Arkansas and I and my family have been here since 1980. My Gram would be so pleased. LOL! I have two sons, one is married and has five children who were all born in Arkansas. I met my husband in Oklahoma at college (he's from Okla.) so I married a guy who was born not far from where my own dad was born and then we had our two sons there. We met and married at Bartlesville, just west of Nowata, and our first son was born there...and I'm just now finding out after 40 years that MY family has a bunch of people buried there! I was living right where my grandparents met, married, etc., and more. And then moved to the state where they came from. When Gram would tell me about her trips to Okla. and Arkansas, I never dreamed that I would some day live there - and love it!

Hi - I am a descendant of Jeremiah's son Jeremiah. The Risley family history (http://www.archive.org/details/risleyfamilyhist00lcrisl) only documents Samuel, Sarah and Jeremiah from Dinah Gale and Jeremiah. I have never found records for a John.

Did Jeremiah Risley of Egg Harbor, NJ Have a Son Named John?

Jeremiah Risley was born, say 1696, in Harford Conn., migrated to Egg Harbor, NJ around 1721, and died there between 1776 and 1778. He married: (1) Dinah Gale, c. 1724; and (2) Jane Armstrong, 6 Mar 1739/40. I can document six children of Jeremiah's:

1. Mary, b. c. 1725, m. Joseph Ingersoll, 1743
2. Samuel, b. c. 1727, m. Judith Somers
3. Sarah, b. say 1732, m. William Read
4. Jeremiah, b. 1734, m. Margaret Doughty
5. Jemima, m. 1758, George Hawkins
6. Jonathan, m. Sarah.

A number of rootweb submissions list another son for Jeremiah, named John Risley, with a birth date around 1738 and a death date of 1814 and place of death in Indiana.

Does anyone know of any documentation indicating that Jeremiah Risley had a son named John?

Curtis Jr. was my uncle and he died in the mid 1990s
and I believe Elizabeth Richmond must have been his second wife. All I know is they had a daughter named Mary Beth
and as a child she was an accomplished organist and played at baseball games where they lived somewhere in Florida.
All of Curtis, Jr. brothers are deceased and I do not
know anything about Mary Beth...we never met her. I haven't got a clue how to find her...I only found her mother's maiden name recently from the marriage records on ancestry.com. I'm sorry I don't have any helpful info for you. Curtis Jr. had no children with his first wife who died
of cancer in the 1960s I believe. If I turn up anything II'll send you a message. Maureen Risley Wellman

My father passed away this past October (2009). I believe his birth date was 1/5/31. Since his father was not close to him, we dont know much about about him. It would be great to get some family history from the Risley side.

Dear Kathy,

I am the grandson of Elbert, great-grandson of Florence. I knew Virginia well. Virginia most recently lived in St. Louis and I had regular contact with her until about 9 years ago when she entered assisted living. I have only seen one picture of Florence. If the picture is of Florence, she should have an unusual, though attractive, flat place at the tip of her nose, almost a dimple.

I never knew of a Paul. Lee Roy was called "Red," or simply "Roy," and passed away in the 70s I believe.

Rob Risley

I have a scan of a birth certificate from Canada that says Elias Risley and Ann Huckleberry had a son James Elias in March 25, 1828. James is a popular name obviously, but seems to fit.

Also I have Joseph Roland Risley's in my husband's family that I am researching and would appreciate any information on them. Someone was asking about N.E. Ohio....I know at least some of these Risley's were in Michigan and then Ohio and then Tampa and other parts of Florida.

I am not sure how this board works,,please contact me through here if you can I don't want to post my email if I do not have to.

Thanx

Denise

I was told that the native american comes from my dads mothers side, the Robinsons, and that they could perhaps be Arapahoe.

If anyone knows anything about these family histories, let me know.
Lamar114:

Sorry it has been so long since your query...my wife reminded me of it yesterday...my father-in-law is the son of Richard Risley BEAVENS, E.L. Massie BEAVENS was his grandfather. I know that Winifred's headstone in Austin has a name of EVANS below her name Winifred K. BEAVENS. (b. 27 Jun 1900 d. 15 Jun 1945) I haven't found anything on a marriage for her other than her name mentioned in her aunt's obituary in Houston in 1937. It says: "Mrs. Winifred EVANS of Austin" but, my f-i-l says that she was an Episcopal nun; I haven't proved that either. There is a family plot at Glenwood Cemetery in Houston where Christopher Columbus BEAVENS and Louisa A BEAVENS and some of their children are buried. Including Capt. C. Conway BEAVENS and Miss Emily
C. BEAVENS. As for Sammy STINSON; that was Richard Risley BEAVENS' second wife. His first wife was Annie Gladys NABORS. Write me directly and I can email photos and cemetery plot location.
Re: Risley and Smith in Glastonbury

I'm helping my husband research his Glastonbury Smith ancestors. He is descended from Edgar's & Andrew Clark's brother Charles Smith. I've hit the same wall with the Risely family, with no verifiable documentation. However, I do know that Andrew Clark & family moved to Cromwell, CT. He died June 2, 1915 is buried in the Old Center Cemetery in Cromwell. His obit was published in The Hartford Courant, June 4, 1915, page 9. Edgar moved to Hartford,CT, where he died May 28, 1912. His obit was published in The Hartford Courant, May 29, 1912, page 9. I haven't found where he's buried yet. They both worked for the Hartford & New York Transportation Company. I've been hoping to try & track down local family who may have family records such as bibles or the like. Unfortunately, my husband's aunt was the family record keeper, and when she died, all her effects were held by her husband's family, and as they didn't have children, everything went to his nieces/nephews, who we haven't been able to track. I'd be curious to hear if you've been able to connect these Smiths to Jeduthan Smith(1709-1781) or his son Jedediah Smith (1764-1826), both of Glastonbury.

I do not have any "special knowledge" of the family of Edward L. Massie Beavens and Della Winfred Hill, but I do know a little about their children:
1. Winfred Beavens, b. 1901, Texas
2. Charles M. Beavens, b. 1902, Texas
3. Richard Risley Beavens, b. 10 Aug 1905, Texas; d. 25 Mar 1979, Port Arthur, Jefferson County, Texas

I am living in the home that Massie Beavens (Louisa's son) and his wife, Della Winfred Hill Beavens lived in- in the Houston Heights from around 1910 until...? Did they have any children? Do you have any period pictures of the home or family? Do you know the name of the builder or anything else about the house?
The address is 1623 Harvard street in Houston.
Many thanks!
