Agnes Margaret Robson was born in Oxford Ontario Canada to Michael Robson and wife Jeannie Goodfellow April 10 1882. James Goodfellow Robson born Waterloo Ontario to Michael and Jeannie on 19 April 1887. This info from Ancestry, and not my Robson relatives.
You should be able to find them on the 1891 and 1901 census to retrieve more information.
Sue

Not sure if you already have this information or not but this might help you. James Goodfellow Robson was the Timberland mill's first manager, and later owner. I was looking up history information about the Robson Manner in New Westminster B.C when I came across your question. If you look up information abut James you might find information about the rest of your family. I know New Westminster public library has a lot of archives and might have more details about this family. Good Luck

I also found this site that has a bit of information about James.

http://oppositethecity.wordpress.com/2012/05/12/timberland-l...

Hi Carol,

My Robson's come from Chollerton Northumerland. William Robson born 1786 married to Ann Parkin born 1789. His son Matthew Robson married Margaret Richardson, they had three children Ann, William and George. Matthew and Margaret moved to the Durham area, Coxhoe, Trimdon, so recent ancestors are from that area.Marie

Hi Margaret,
Like you say the area is full of Robson's. I am not sure if they are connected, Matthew born 1809 married Margaret Richardson in 1830, they had three children Anne1832 born in Chollerton, William 1836 and George 1838 both born Trimdon Durham. Matthew'a father was William born we think in 1786 married to Ann Parkin born 1789. They are all from the Chollerton area.

Hi Marie
My mother writes in response: "Definitely a possible connection in Chollerton - though Robsons are so thick on the ground in Northumberland I would not stake my life on it.
Robert ROBSON baptised at Ovingham 17 Mar 1782 had a younger brother William baptised Ovingham 28 Aug 1785. Our Robert moved to Chollerton where he married Sarah WILKINSON 6 Dec 1806. As she was the daughter of Matthew W. that brings in a possible name link (Robt also named a son Matt) and it would be quite possible that his brother moved there too. I did not check up on whom any of the rest of his family married."
Looking for any info on William. He married Annie Bainbridge in Dec 1923. I ordered a copy of their Marriage cert and there is a big black nothing where the fathers name should be!!!! I'm completely stumped. They were married in Teesdale and all of Annie's family is situated around the Kelton area. No sign of a Robson family to fit in or around Lunedale.

As far as i know they had 7 kids, Miles William, Janet, Ena, Marion, John, Nancy and Eric.

I would love any good ideas of how best to try and trace William and take my research further as William is My Great Grandfather.
Thanks for the advice to move to the locations board. George married in Romford, Essex and his occupation was a labourer with Briggs Bookies.Address at time of marriage was 139 Wood Lane, Dagenham. His father was also a George Robson and his occupation a coal miner so guessing George is from up north somewhere.
When my grandmother was born in 1939, Georges occupation is dairymans assistant. His father in law William Edwards was a dairyman so assuming they worked together. Addrss was 18 Stanley Avenue.
I did a search on 1911 census for George Robson with father George but too many and not even sure my George was even born then.
Its annoying that i dont know where he was born to narrow the search a bit more :-(
Thanks again Jacki

Hello there,
Where did did George marry? I think it might be more useful posting your query on that locations board.
Also include his age(from the marriage cert)spouses name, age.
And both fathers names, occupations. Basically as much as you know and where you`ve looked already. All of which really helps others trying to find further info for you.
Best of luck
Jacki

My grandmothers father George Robson, left the family when she was very young. I only know his rough age from his marriage certificate from 1936 and that is all i know of him.
My grandmother told me that when she was about 13, so about 1952, a man visited the house to tell her mother that george had handed himself in for bigamy. He obviously remarried again but didnt know my great grandmother divorced him earlier so all was ok on bigamy front. What can i do to find out more about George Robson?

Having trouble with my Robsons. Supposedly from Newcastle area but who knows because the US ancestor (Thomas Taylor) has at least 10 different birth years (1840, 1841, 1842, 1843, 1845, 1846 & 1847. Parents Thomas and Annie Corruthers/Carruthers/Caruthers. Mother may have immigrated to US as well. With names like Thomas and Ann it's pretty darn hard to separate my ancestors from the other hundreds of Thomas and Ann Robsons living in Northumberland in the 1800s.... It would be so nice to finally figure out this branch of my family.

Hi there Amanda
The history of John Sutcliffe Robson is well documented in War records, museums, memorials and books. I have also personally visited his grave in Hlungwane, South Africa where his story and books about his life are shown to tourists (there are however some conflicting views on whether he was from England or Scotland).

See the following websites......

http://www.natalia.org.za/Files/12/Natalia%20v12%20article%2...

http://www.talana.co.za/Museum_Archives/body_museum_archives...

http://www.anglozuluwar.com/content/html3/2010/11/04/2010110...

I'm not sure of his siblings and other family but I have details of his children (all born in South Africa, apart from the eldest, John William Robson):
1. JOHN WILLIAM ROBSON, born 26 March 1850 on board the "Edward" on the passage from England, died 6 August 1879
2. ELIZABETH SARAH ROBSON, born 4 July 1851, died 28 May 1939
3. SUSANNAH ROBSON, born 11 May 1853, died 11 April 1920
4. WILLIAM SUTCLIFFE ROBSON, born 19 June 1856, died 20 August 1923
5. MARY ROBSON, born 11 June 1860
6. GEORGE NICHOLAS ROBSON, born 1862, died 25 October 1946. (This is my great grandfather)
7. ELLEN ROSE ROBSON, born 15 October 1863, died 17 June 1878
Hi there. John Sutcliffe Robson (24 May 1821 to 2 March 1896) from Hawick was married to Elizabeth Nicholas (3 January 1826 to 17 February 1902). Together they had about 7-8 children. The family arrived in South Africa (Dundee in Kwa-Zulu Natal) in about 1856.

JS Robson was Special Border Agent for the Buffalo River and took command of the Buffalo Border Guardafter 1873 during the battles with native Zulus at Isandlwana and Rorke's Drift in South Africa.

John was the first Robson to arrive in South Africa and I am a 5th-generation South African Robson from the family of John Sutcliffe Robson; currently living in Johannesburg, South Africa. My grandfather was James Sutcliffe Robson; the grandson of John Sutcliffe Robson.

I have checked freeBMD for all John Thomas Robson/Robison/Robinson with no luck. Haven't had any luck with his parent's names and a marriage record there either. This family is the biggest mystery I have ever encountered. My friend's family and there was little know about John and his parent's and even siblings was a mystery. He said he was in WW1 and was in the first gas attacks in 1916 in France he was repatriotized (something like that)back to England when he was injured on the forearm (missing a chunk of skin).

I have checked some BMD records i can find that isn't just the index like all is available online. I used findmypast website for just was there. The only thing i can summarize is his mother's last name maybe wrong. It's difficult when the family can't tack down where the he came from. Like I mentioned he stated he was born in Hull, Yorkshire but on obituary (by his wife) it said he was last from Hull. They also said that he had lived a while after his father's death with his mother.
I have checked census records, but what it may take is looking at actual Births in the British Archives but undoable from here. If even his parents could be found would be a start, I have been combing the records that are available online (i have memberships to numerous major websites but no luck). I even looked at Robison like his name was misspelled as on ship records and even Robinson.
John Thomas ROBSON Missing in Birth Records/Census Records?

I am looking for one John Thomas Robson (or Robison/Robinson) who on his marriage record in Glasgow, Scotland in 1918 said his parents were Thomas Robson (horsedealer dec.) and Frances Smith (dec.). John died in Toronto, Canada in 1943 at age of 53 years. He should show up in the birth records in England. His father, Tom was believed in be in Birmingham, England. John apparently had older siblings that were quite a few years older than him (closest being about 5-10 years) from what the present family remembers being told. On his ship records coming to Canada he said he was born in Hull, Yorkshire. But in his obituary it stated he last was in Hull, Yorkshire before coming over.
I am now pondering his mother's last name he gave is wrong.

If anyone sees this person anywhere in a record in England for birth please let me know.
Thanks,
Dan
Canada
Re: Robson families in New York

Hi Sally,

Yes, there was definitely another Robson family in Upstate NY at that time! My family originated from Walter Robson, who came over from either Scotland or Northern England no later than 1820 as well. He settled eventually in the Washington/Rensselaer county area and had five sons. Two of those sons, James Oscar and John J. (possibly "Jefferson J.") moved to the Buffalo area. James Oscar became a very well known gunsmith and started a family plot in Buffalo, which is where you are probably seeing a lot of those names.

I've reached a bit of a dead-end regarding Walter himself, and I've seen your "Michael" pop up several times in my searches and have wondered if there wasn't some sort of link (especially since two of Walter's sons seemed to spontaneously move to that area. It would make sense if they had family somewhat nearby).

My tree is marked as Public, so feel free to look around. Please let me know if you have any questions and best of luck! Hopefully one day my hunch will be right and I'll find the link between Walter and Michael.

Best,
-Scott

I think
In the 1861 census only JANE (showh as head) and William(SON) are shown still living at Cornwallis Street.
Also shown at the house is ELIZABETH ASHBY with Daughter Anne Robson LEE

Any help untangling this lot appreciated

Ron

Hello Joe
No I'm sorry. At one time I did think my ancestor William Robinson married your Annie Ross but I later found his death and he was unmarried.

Best wishes on your research.
Susan
