Hi again Jacqui
The best way for me to send you what I have is as email attacments, and I dont think that I can do that using ancestry, so if you are comfortable with the idea, email you email addess to me at balcolyn@activ8.net.au and I will start sending them to you.
I am also interested in who the people were and what they did and so on, so you may find what I have done on the Rochfords and Tulla interesting, I hope so
I have been retired for some years now but during my working life visited London many times and often extended those trips to a quick trip to Ireland. I still communicate with a lady who lives in Tulla and whose maiden name was Rochford, I think we worked out we were fourth cousins
best regards
Patrick

yes I will keep you posted. I would be very interested in any detail on the Rochford family that you may have. I am interested in any social history around any family names and their history generally that I have done for other branches of my family, aswell as the actualy ancesters that I have researched into and found.

I hope you have a good new year, best wishes to you and your family. I have never been to Australia but my Aunt emigrated there is 1963 and still lives there now in Queensland.

Jacqui

hello again
Please keep in touch as your search unfolds, I have quite a bit info on several Rochford families which I will be happy to provide if they seem relevant, particularly if Kate's maiden name turns out to be Liddy.
You probably know that the Mormon's (the church of Jesus Christ of latter day saints) have microfilmed the Catholic parish register for Tulla and it can be viewed at any of their family history centres of which there must be several in London. This is a good way to look up pre official registration of birth deaths and marriages.
I would also be happy to email what I have written in my family history about my Rochford line and how I traced them if you wish, let me know
all the best
Patrick

Hi yes we had a great Xmas here, the weather was very mild no snow this year. Unfortunately, I do not have Katherine's surname. As far as I have deduced I think Annie was living alone as a servant in 1901, so I can't locate any record of her with her family. In the 1901 and 1911 census there are quite a few Michael and Katherine/Kate Rochfords in the tulla area so I cannot be ceratin which ones were her parents. Also, Michael is detailed as a barber on Annie's wedding certificate and I can only find farmers with that name in the census information. I will check the website you suggest and will keep searching!

Greeetings
I trust that you are yours had a wonderful Christmas day, as we did here, although we havent had much Aussie summer so far this year, mainly overcast and lots of rain, however, today looks nice and sunny but very windy.
Apologies if you already know about what I am about to write but if you log onto the Co. Clare library web site and search a little you will see they have the 1901 and 1911 census online and a little digging shows Michael and Kate and some of their children at Kilboggoon for both years, although Kate is a widow in 1911, so Michael must have died between the two census.
I do have lots of notes on the Rochfords recorded a long time ago and will search through them, by any chance, does Annie's marriage certificate give her mothers maiden name
best regards
Patrick

Hi I am at the very beginning of my search for the Hayes and Rochfords, so have very little information so far. My grand father was Laurence Hayes, who was one of John and Annie's children. They moved from Ireland to Liverpool in about 1910 then eventually settled in North London where I live today. Very few relevatives are still around of that age, so it quite difficult to get started on this line. I may do a trip to Ireland later in the year to do some searching, so any information that you have on the Rochfords would be helpful. If I find out any more I will let you know.

Thankyou Patrick for your prompt responce.
It is possible that Delia was actually Bridget, on her marriage certificate she gives her name as Delia Winifred Rochford. We don't have any proof of her parents, BUT have penciled in George & Catherine (Kate)this may be incorrect of course. Also her birth I have not found on either QLD or NSW indexes have tried lots of combinations of names!
Her marri8age certificate says birth is definatley Australia
but place or State is unreadable though last bit looks like lland

Thankyou

Jen

Christmas Greetings
I descend from Patrick Rochford and Mary Hennessy who married in Tulla in 1819, Patrick's address was Kilbogoon.
The Rochfords seem to have lived on Kilboogoon for a long time, tracing back is difficult but I have them there in 1770 and the family legend is that they were there long before that. I understand that Kilbogoon stayed in Rochford hands until the 1950's
Patrick and Mary had eight surviving children, one of whom was a Michael who was baptised in Tulla on 10 July 1848, this could be your Michael who married Katherine.
There is a strong possibility that we are distantly related and I am happy to help with any research if I can.
Patrick Rochford was a hotelkeeper, the building still exists in Tulla, but he and Mary and the children 'disappear' from Tulla between 1850 and 1860, three daughters came to Australia and I know a lot about them, plus at least one other daughter went to the USA
I live near Sydney Australia and have spent a long time looking for Rochfords and hope we can help one another
Do you have any other info re the Tulla connection???
looking forward to hearing from you again
Patrick Callaghan
PS where do you live?

I don't have any information regarding Michael and Katherine other than Michael was detailed as a barber on Annie's marriage certificate.

Annie married a John Hayes in 1905 at St Mary's Catholic Church in Limerick, and they moved to England in about 1910. If there is any connection, I would appreciate any information that you have regarding the Rochford family of michael and Katherine.

Rochford, Daniel (Update to Old Post: 1800's Sligo & NYC)

I am updating previous posts regarding Daniel Rochford based on new information.

My great great grandfather, Daniel Rochford (Rochfort), came to NYC from Ireland on December 14, 1848 aboard the ship Chaos. It appears from the ship's manifest that he was the only Rochford on board. From various documents, I have established that he was born around 1827 in County Sligo and his occupation was a shoemaker. He married Ann Kilroy on April 1, 1851 in NYC and they had three children Mary Ann (never married), Michael (never married) and William Henry (my great grandfather). Except for a brief period around 1860, they lived in NYC with Daniel passing away in 1894 and his wife, Ann, in 1897. I have not been able able to determine the names of Daniel's parents, whether he had siblings or any other facts about his life in Sligo. Any information or helpful hints would be appreciated.

Stephen Rochford
sprochford@gmail.com

Hi William,

I have a connection here. James Ratchford is my 2nd great grandfather. His daughter, Rose Ratchford is my great grandmother who married John J Cunningham. Their daughter, Geraldine Cunningham married John J. Loughney - who are my grandparents. All of these were in the Scranton area.

I don't have more records on James Ratchford' parents, but happy to share the info I have. I have some civil war records which I believe are his.

John Loughney

Old post, but I'll try anyway. I suspect that you already looked at the marriage record? Sometimes the names of parents are on them. My ancestor, who I believe to be Catherine Rochford/Rashford of Wexford County, Ireland, came to Newark, New Jersey w/her husband Michael Pierce abt. 1849. She was born in 1820. Google Kilmore genealogy; there is a great page with many records. Unfortunately, the missing baptisms are from 1812-1828. Hopefully Rachel will get them posted in the near future. There are Rashford's in other records including the 1833 valuations. Good luck.

I realize your post is quite old; however, I had a great-uncle Martin Rochford, and my grandfather was Stanley Rochford. They were from the 16 Acres area of Springfield, MA although I don't know if they were born in Longmeadow. I have recently become interested in finding out about the Rochfords. There are no male heirs of the Rochfords I am related to in the area.

Catherine Rochford was born in 1821 in Ireland perhaps in Co Cork. I say perhaps because her husband James Latham was born we think in the Dunmanway area. Given that folks did not travel that far a field we therefore think Co Cork. But we know nothing about her family and would love to.She dies Wallasey in 1896 --did she have family near by or was it just her sonsEdwards work as a custom Officer that took her there? She and her husband James go on to have 9 children. Margaret 1841,Thomas 1844, James 1837, William 1848 ( who becomes a Rector and spends much of hi stime in India),Sarah 1850 who goes to Australia and marries a A Wright,Edward b 1851,Oliver 1854 who goes to New Zealand and dies in 1874,Samuel who goes to the Kyneton area and marries Margaret M'Hughin 1887 and they have 7 children. He dies 1933. Finally Charles 1860 who dies 1876.Any information please contact hurst2391@yahoo.com

Hi Rob !

John Rochford and Bridget McNamara were married in the parish of Bodyke/
Tuamgraney on 10 February, 1839. John Rochford's address is Ballynahinch
and Bridget McNamara was from Clonmoher. (This is North and East in Clare.
Feakle, noted for its traditional music, is just a few miles West.) The witnesses to the marriage were Thomas Crowe of Ballynahinch and Michael McNamara of Clonmoher.

They had three children born in Ireland:

John Baptized 31st January, 1834. Sponsor: Thomas Considine

Bridget Baptized 28th December, 1839. Sponsors Thomas Crowe and Norry Broham

Michael Baptized 12th august 1841 Sponsors Thomas and Mary Crowe

The children were all born and baptized in the ecclesiastical parish of Bodyke/Tuamgraney and they lived in the townland of Ballynahinch (a townland of 730 acres) i the old civil Parish of Killoe. The townland is just over 2 miles west of the village of Bodyke.

Please notice the date of the marriage, and the arrival of their first child. Must have caused a big commotion way back then !!!!

Steve Botsford

Greetings
I descend from Patrick Rochford who married in Tulla Co. Clare in 1819. Regretably I cant link to your family information. There were quite a few Rochford families in Clare in the 1800's, probably more than might seem likely at first glance. I believe that the Rochefort's came to England with the Norman invasion, I think that was around 1150, the name was slowly anglicised to Rocheford or Rochford, there are quite a few places or rivers etc in the north of England called Rochford
The Rochefort/Rochfords came to Ireland about 1250 and settled around Limerick City and spread out from there
Hope this helps
Patrick Callaghan

Hello again
I may be able to help further, do you know the names of your Michaels parents. There are a surprising number of Rochford families living in East Clare and I have Rochfords living at Kilboogoon in the 1770's and they may well have been there earlier. Kilbogoon remained a Rochford property intil the 1950's when it was sold to another Tulla resident
If you are interested I could pass on the name and email details of an East Clare historian who has extensive knowledge of the families of the area
all the best
Patrick Callaghan

Greetings Rob
I descend from Patrick Rochford (of Kilboggoon) and Mary Hennessy, they were married in Tulla in 1819 and they had 10 children on of whom was Michael Rochford who was baptised (at Tulla) on 19 February 1838. Thats the only reference to a Michael Rochford that I have, although I do know that the Liddy surname is still well known around Tulla.
Three of Patrick and Mary's daughters came to Australia, however Patrick and Mary and the rest of the children have 'disappeared'. they are thought to have gone to the USA about 1850 and I have never been able to locate them

I gained a great deal of info about my Rochfords from the Tulla Catholic church register, it showed baptisms and marriages, if my memory is correct, it may well show the marriage of your Michael and Kate. There are still distant Rochford relatives living in Tulla today
Please let me know if I can help further
Patrick Callaghan

As the reader can see there are two James and two Michael's amongst the children, this is not surprising as many children died at an early age in those times and later children were often given the name of an earlier deceased child.

Greetings Rochford researchers
This is the first of two emails which contain what I know
about 'my' Rochfords of Tulla Co. Clare, hope this helps some one abd always delighted to hear from another researcher regards Patrick Callaghan

24 February 1819
John Rochford of Kilboggoon married Mary Reidy of Garrurah townland, witnesses were James Reidy of Garrurah and James Rochford of Kilboggoon.

13 February 1820
Catherine Rochford of Kilboggoon married Michael Boland of Ruslara, witnesses were Martin McCarthy of Uggoone and Edward Hynes of O'Callaghan's Mills.

4 February 1921
Anne Rochford of Kilboggoon married James Rochford of Feakle, witnesses were James Rochford of Kilboggoon and Dennis Brassil of Tulla.

14 February 1832
Winny Rochford of Kilboggoon married Patrick O'Brien of Broadford, witnesses were Michael and Thomas Rochford of Kilboggoon.

Matty (Matilda) Rochford of Kilboggoon married Peter Lillis of Newgrove, witnesses were John Lillis of Newgrove and Michael Rochford of Kilboggoon.

It is reasonable to assume that the Rochford marriage partners, John, Anne, Catherine, Winny and Matty were all living at Kilboggoon at the time of their marriage and grew up there. Witnesses also include other Rochford's living at Kilboggoon, namely James, Patrick, Michael and Thomas.

By applying the Irish naming tradition to the children of the John Rochford mentioned above we can deduce that his father was probably James Rochford, born about 1770, he lived at Kilboggoon and his children were Michael, Patrick, Thomas, John, Catherine, Anne, Winny and Matty and there may have been more. Patrick, Michael and John and perhaps other unknown brothers are the earliest Rochford’s who we are able to trace.

It's been a long time since youe post, but this may help you; my great grandfather was Michael Rochford from Co. Clare. One of his sons was Martin Rochford 1863-1921, my grandfather who married a Margaret Lynch, my grandmother 14.02.1899 in Kilrush, Co. Clare. My great grandfather Michael ( who married a Mary O'Brien, my great grandmother ) had 10 other children including a Michael born 24.08.1862 who could possibly have married Margaret's sister, in other words, the sister of his brother Martin's wife although this is purely guesswork. Hope this maybe of some help to you. Regards, Martin Rochford.

I also am searching the Ratchford/Rochfords from Scranton. Immigrant ancestor James Ratchford b. 1834 Ireland immigrated in 1860. I believe he was the first of this particular family to immmigrate. His brothers followed after, and some settled in scranton. Not sure what part of Ireland he came from or who his parents were. James Married Jane ? b. abt 1848. they had the following children:
Rosanne "Rose" Ratchford 1867 –
Alice Ratchford 1869 –
James Bernard Ratchford 1870 – 1947
Michael Ratchford 1873 –
Mary "Mamie" Ratchford 1875 –
Patrick Ratchford 1879 –
Jennie Ratchford 1882 –
Martin Ratchford
James Bernard Ratchford is the next person of interest. He married Annie Carroll and their children were:
Marion E Ratchford 1898 –
Genevieve Ratchford 1900 – 1968
Sadie Ratchford 1903 –
James Joseph Ratchford
James Joseph married my grandfather's sister Vivian Wright and i am in contact with their children and grandchildren whom i am doing the research for.

William Wright
Dunmore, Lackawanna, Pa

Greetings Isobel
I descend from the Rochfords of Tulla County Clare, my most distant known ancestor is Patrick Rochford who married Mary Hennessy about 1820. Three of their daughters, Jane, Bridget and Catherine migrated to Australia in the 1850's and 60's I descend from Jane. Patrick and Mary and the rest of the children have 'disappeared' and are assumed to have migrated to the USA, but I have never been able to find them. I dont think I can link to your Rochfords, none of the surnames you mention ring any bells, I put my famhis to bed some years ago but am happy to help if I can
all the best
Patrick

Patrick as one [once was] Rochford to another I say - hello! I am researching my father's family, the Rochfords from Wicklow in Ireland. The first of whom, James, migrated to NSW, Australia about 1850 possibly already married to Catherine. He worked as a farmer on the Macarthur-Onslow Estate near Campbelltown, NSW [think sheep & wheat!] He worked the land for food & lodgings, didn't own it. I am in the very early stages of pinning the family history together. The other branch of my direct family is my mother's side the Quoyle family from Bailleborough, County Cavan, Ireland. I haven't begun to look for the Morans & Murphys I might be related too!!! One branch at a time! What do you need for you database? I'd like to help if I can. Regards Isobel
