I think Nancy might have been born in1796 She might have been older then her husband They lied back then when thye were older then the husband I know because my mom was older and lied. But I found ONLY only Nancy in that era and her dad was Godfrey and mom was Annie Cordon Appreciate your thoughts.

Jude

No, my wife and I are both from Michigan and just moved to Oregon a few years ago. No relation to anyone on the west coast, our roots are firmly in Michigan for about 200 years.

I haven't found any record of a Clarissa Baldwin. If you have documents I'd love to see them.

I found a few sources online and researchers in Knox County Ohio that suggested Nancy Rockefeller may have been Nancy Sergeant. I changed her name in my tree after I posted this message, in an attempt to find some new clues, but I never found anything concrete.

Mary Hoose (as far as I know) was William's second wife after Nancy died. She had been married to a man by the last name "Budd" and I have their marriage record in my tree so you can see it. They were too old for kids, but as far as I know William was only married to Nancy and Mary.

My wife's Grandmother's maiden name was Kirby.

I'm in Oregon right now, but our extended family still lives in Michigan, not far from Greenbush where some of the Kirby families are buried. Unfortunately I tried reaching out to someone at that cemetery and they don't have the actual burial records. They said at that time, they expected the families to keep records of their own burials. It's a very small cemetery in a rural area.

Hi Jude,

Looking at your tree, you might want to compare to mine. It appears you have Harriet Kirby born in Ireland. I have found her maiden name was Tinklepaugh and she was actually born in Michigan, though her parents were from New York. I have 2 generations past her.

You have a Jeremiah Lynch married to Nancy Kirby (b.1866). I don't know if that is right or wrong, but I can't find any record of a Jeremiah and Nancy Lynch in Michigan on the 1900 census. Maybe I'm missing something. So I'm curious about your sources. You also have that Nancy born in Boston which is decidedly not true. I have the 1850-1870 censuses with Nancy living in Michigan with her parents.

I'd love to work with you on this, if we can find anything about Nancy's mother (Nancy Rockfeller)

She was married to Johannes Rodenbach and they had a son Henry, who would have been my 5th great grandfather. There are many mixed up dates, documents, etc and I am trying to help put some of the missing pieces back together as well as meet some of my newly discovered Rockefeller family!
Any and all help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.
thank you kindly,
Stasha Colin

It appears that John and Harriett had a son, John. My guess would be that he was born sometime between 1935-1942. Based on a few articles from Fulton History, John may have been born in Virginia. I did find that John Sr. had a sister, Elizabeth, who married Louis Potter. It looks as if they may have moved to NJ and then back to NY, but I'm not sure.

Seeking info on John Jay Bain Rockefeller. John JB Rockefeller passed away in 1989 in North Carolina. His parents were Lewis Kirby Rockefeller and Clara Bain. I found that his wife's name was Harriet, but I'm looking for her maiden name. Based on some research, it may have been Clark, but looking for confirmation and also looking to see if there were any children. John JB was my cousin.

I'm looking for any additional info on the children of Spencer A. Rockefeller & Nettie Kirby Rockefeller. Children are: Grace (1873), Lewis Kirby (1875), Mabel (1887) & Nina (1893). Spencer was my gg uncle (Ardella Rockefeller's brother). I have Lewis' info (married Clara Bain), but am wondering if the daughters married and if so, to whom?

My wife's 3x Great Grandfather was Emmett Kirby (24 Jun 1824 in Ohio - 13 Apr 1909 in Greenbush, MI). His death certificate lists his parents as William Kirby and Nancy Rockfeller, both from Ohio.

I was able to find Census records for William and Nancy Kirby for 1850,1860, and 1870. The 1850 census lists them as being from Maryland. 1860 says they were from Ohio. 1870 census says they were from Maryland.

There seems to be conflicting places of birth for them. The only source I have found for Nancy's maiden name is her son's death certificate as I said. I am not sure if it truly is "Rockfeller" or if there was a mistake and it was "Rockefeller".

Anything about Nancy, her parents, etc would be greatly appreciated.

I am researching the ancestry of Godfrey Waters who was born in Pennsylvania in about 1800, lived in Clarion, PA in 1850 and died in Niles, Iowa in 1886. He is apparently the Godfrey waters listed in Augusta, Northumberland, PA in 1840. He married Elizabeth ___.
He may or may not be related to Godfrey Rockefeller. Are you still researching?
My great-great grandmother was also Ardella Rockefeller Van Dyck. Her family did call her Della. She married Cornelius Van Dyck. She is mentioned in Cornelius' obituary. (I have a copy) Her parents are Jonas H. Rockefeller and Esther Ann Clarke. Ardella apparently had four brothers but I do not have info on them. George C. Van Dyck was his son & my grandmother's father. George C. Van Dyck married Anna May Hane. Hope this helps.

My Mother was a Rockefeller. Her name was Ethel Frances, born 9/05/07. She was the daughter of Ferdinand Rockefeller, the son of George R. & Anna Frances Briggs. George and Anna had George Howard, Nellie, Minnie, Sarah & Ferdinand (my grandfather). George Howard, who married Mable Knight had (according to my records) Cecil Helen, Frederick Howard, Harold Arthur, Leroy Alfred, Raymond Ralph, Kenneth Herbert, & Gladys Emma who died in infancy. For Leroy Alfred, I have that he married Alice McBride and had a daughter, Rita. I have that Rita married a Bill Swanson and they had James & Janice. If you can add anything thing else to any of this, I would greatly appreciate it. I was born and raised in New Jersey, but have lived in Pennsylvania all of my married life, which is almost 47 years. I will be 80 in August. If you want to contact me directly, my email address is: petlaw@verizon.net
Betty.

I am in contact with some of my Coager/Coger cousins in that area. We are having trouble finding Fred's father, Wm Harrison Coger's parents, no one in the family knows who they are. Thank you for your offer.

Where did you find the dates for Wm & Anna Rockefeller? I think their daughter may have married Adam H. Hager. Their daughter, Caroline Hager, married John Parker Chase an Caroline's d/c said her mother was Anna Rockefeller. I know there is a small grave yard behind the Abner Chase house with Rockefellers in it.

If you can't attach a file to this board, why don't you write me direct to cjmaine@maine.rr.com.
Hi JoAnn
Thank you for answering my request. I sent you a reply yesterday and when I check the site today it wasn't listed so I thought I would write again just to make sure you got my message.

Yes, I do think this is my Rockefeller, and yes, I did miss spell the name. It should have an 'e' in it.

I wrote to the Schoharie Co Historical Society asking about the Rockefelles that were burried behind the Abner Chase house in a private plot... I wonder if this is the plot you found?

I would love pictures of the stones you talked about.

I did some checking with the LDS Library and found a Wm Rockefeller in Amwell, NJ... but the dates don't match as you said... I wonder why? I guess this is going to be another problem family to research. It is a good thing I love genealogy... I have 30 years into it.

Would love to hear from you and any information that you would like to share on this family.
Hello Carolyn,
Recently I have been researching my husband's family which also came from Fulton, Schoharie Co., NY. Could you be looking for an Anna Rockefeller (Rockfeller) who was born 11 May 1803? If this is the same person, her parents were William and Ann (Anna) Schaeffer Rockefeller. This summer my husband and I found their gravestones in an unkept private plot in Breakabeen, NY. If this is the same person Anna's siblings were--Dennis Wycoff, Ambrose Spencer, Magdelena, John, Henry and Jacob F.M. Rockefeller.
My husband's descendant was Dennis Wycoff. I have traced Anna's father William back to Rocktown, Amwell, NJ, but as with all genealogical records the dates don't exactly match. William's gravestone engraving wasn't completed, but had a W.R. However, Ann's stone was beautifully engraved. Ann was born 4 Sept 1775 and if the stone is correct, died 11 Sept 1847. I would be happy to send you a photo of the gravestones if you think these are relatives. Good Luck.
JoAnn Rockefeller

If you are still looking there are two books available through google books that are called "The Transactions of the Rockefeller Family" the first written in 1910... they are very useful if you are looking for your Rockefeller ancestors, but not perfect... there are a few mistakes here and there as well as a biased view (as would be suspected)

Pat,

THANK YOU very much for this information. (How did you do that?)

Yes, I believe it may be the family I am looking for. My search had been too narrow I think. I am realizing that people moved around more than I thought, in search of work no doubt.

After Maria was widowed, she and her family moved up to Schroeppel and worked on the canal. John was a canal boat captain. Sister Kitty served as a canal boat cook for a time. Later, Kitty's son and my great-grandfather, William Henry Beach, was a canal boat "driver" in his youth. He later became a dentist, and then a dental inspector for the State of NY.

Thank you again Pat. I'm most appreciative.

William Henry Rockefeller in Bath NY circa 1850

I found a newsclipping sent to my father from my grandmother. It says that "our uncle John Rockefeller's father, William Henry Rockefeller, was a builder, who died in an old soldier's home in Bath, NY."

The family later moved to Oswego County but I wonder if there is anyway I can find where the old soldier's home in Bath is/was. I cannot find any other information on William H Rockefeller. His children were born in the 1840's and I'm guessing he died in the 1850's.

His wife was a Maria Hubbs. There were 3 children: William, John, and Catherine Elizabeth ('Kitty'). The family settled in Schroeppel, Oswego County where John was a canal boat captain. John married a cousin; Emma Candee later in life.

Family records sometimes spell the surname as Rockefellow.

I sorry to hear that. I am trying to tie her to Simeon Rockefeller line, because Elisha & Betsey named a son Simeon. I do not believe Simeon was a common given name before that in the Silvernail line. Simeon Rockefeller had a daughter, Elizabeth, but the dates don't line up. Good luck. if I make a connection I will post back to you,
LIN

Don't know if you are still looking, but I am related to Tunis Rockefeller (Andrew's brother) and found this website that someone made very helpful. Apparently there is a book all about the Rockefeller line.

http://members.aol.com/marwomack/rockefel.htm
