Hi Annette
I am not to sure on my Rocks side. My great grandfather is Patrick Rocks born 1875. His mother was an O'Hara as far as I am aware our Rocks side stayed in or around Scotland other than his wife Mary Duffin who is said to have travelled to Canada but we are yet to confirm that. If I come across any information that may help I will be sure to contact you and pass it on :)

Hi
The Newcastle Courant of 13 July 1858 reported that three defendants, including Patrick Rock, 21, pleaded guilty to riot at Blackhill, Consett, Co Durham. There had been protracted fighting between English and Irish workmen, the police could not quell the disturbances, and had to call out the army to end the conflict. In a plea bargain the prisoners pleaded guilty, in exchange for theft charged being dropped. They were bound over to keep the peace.
If this is of interest I can supply a transcript of the article.
Regards
Michael Burns
Hi Aaron
Not sure if we have the same family here, but I am currently searching for information on a Francis Rocks, who married a Nancy O'hara, not sure if he had more than one wife but have reason to believe he came from Armagh in Ireland. He went on to have a son by the name of Patrick Rocks and who also am led to believe was born in Ireland around 1877, patrick married a mary duffin in dec 1901. If you have any information that could be of use i would love to hear from you. Also on this note if this is the same family we are both searching i am more than willing to share what information i have from francis down to down and the australian side of this tree.
Kind Regards

Hi not sure that I am able to help to much but I am currently searching for details on Patrick Rocks also. The Patrick Rocks that I have was married to a Mary Duffin. up to date I have not been able to find any information on his birth or death details. One of their children was adopted out also but the only information I know of this adoption was that the last name changed from Rocks to Cairns. This may be the same Patrick as I am led to believe that patrick was of irish decent but have yet to make that concrete. I would love to hear from you and just maybe we are looking for details on the same person and may well be able to help each other out.
Kind Regards

Hagan 24.10.1836 witness James Hagan In the Ballymore parish ,Tandragee Armagh. Also in the Ballymore records is the birth of Patrick Rocks son John Rocks and Mary Donnelly 01/04/1801 under address Shane Eglish. Could this be your Patrick Rocks father ?

Hi Danny,
How very interesting,I thought that there were very few records remaining before the 1900s for Ireland.
Someone contacted me and was kind enough to do some research for me.He gave me all the info I have, during the time they lived in Durham, as he lives there himself. The only info I found, was in Swansea. So I can't give you any help I'm afraid.Sorry about that.
You are lucky to find all that about your family,it takes time I know. Thanks again fo your email, would be delighted with any new info .Regards Audrey

Hello Audrey, I knew my family came from Armagh and I eventually found their 3 eldest childrens births in Tandragee, Ballymore, Armagh when I visited the Dublin records office. This was later confirmed to me by the manager at the Armagh Catholic Archive in Armagh City.I also visited Tandragee and the parish priest allowed me to look at his copies of the parish records [the actual records are in the Dublin Records office] and he also photo copied some the records for me including the Rocks transcripts.
I called into the Dublin records office last September over several days but the Ballymore reel was missing and the master tape is also lost, I do know Belfast records office has a copy. I will check my copies I know there was at least one Rocks/Hagan marraige.
regards Danny

Hope someone out there can help. I am trying to trace the Rocks family who lived in Croydon, Surrey in circa July 1947. Dad was calls Patrick Rocks and Mum was called Constance (nee Gordon) Rocks. Unfortunately Mum and Dad separated and Dad went back to Ireland circa September 1947, his last known address was 40 Glenview or Glenfield St, Belfast (probably long since gone by now). Would be grateful if anyone out there who may know of any children from this marriage and their whereabout I would be very grateful. Unfortunately I do not have a lot more information only that one of their children was put up for adoption in 1947.

Rock/Rocks Surname DNA breakthrough - Celtic - Norse Genes

The current results of the Rock Surname DNA project have revealed some startling results. Of the ten tested, 9 results are in. Five are directly related and shown to be from the Armagh area of Ireland. Their DNA is R1b and its type is of the Irish Celtic variety.
Two others are not related but also have an Irish Celtic DNA pattern. One is from the North Leinster area, Dublin/Westmeath/Meath/Roscommon/Longford/Mayo area with exact matches to Irish surnames from that area. One other has an as yet undetermined connection most likely an English Celtic origin.

There are also two other fascinating results, one from Pennslyvania showing a European-Norse Type no known connection at all with Ireland and a match looking very Scandanavian and also one other Irish, a County Cavan Rock tested as the same Norse type but a different pattern, with links to the Viking gene and possibly from the North of England.

And lastly a woman, using the mtDNA test, she is from the East Coast of the USA and from a Afro-Caribbean-Irish background.

To review these DNA results try here: http://homepage.eircom.net/~rocksurname/rock_dna/index.htm

To check the Rock Surname website try this: http://homepage.eircom.net/~rocksurname/rocksurname/index.ht...

Any queries I will gladly respond,
Regards,
Austin Rock
Pat. I don't think that I have your ancestor in my line but I have received so many emails about the Rocks that I am not sure. Right now I am getting ready for an Open House on Dec. 5th, then Christmas shopping there after. I'm hoping that after the first of the year I will be able to get back to my genealogy work. I moved into a new duplex in March and things have been pretty busy with outside landscaping etc. I will copy your message and keep it on file. If I find anything I will get back to you.
