Hi, my Great-grandmother was Mary Rockwood. She was born November 5th 1888 and died august 2nd 1969. She was born and lived in Heart's Content until death. She married a man named Herbert Janes (also from Heart's Content) He was born August 21st 1860 and died April 7th 1945. If someone can help me connect the dots on this branch of my family tree that would be great!

I am looking for any information pertaining to AJ Rockwood or BG Rockwood. They apparently had ties to Milford, New Jersey. BG Rockwood is apparently also a distant relation to a Timothy Clark (from Eastern New Jersey) who served in the Jersey Blues 3rd Regiment during the Revolutionary War. Any information on the this Rockwood line and how it may relate to the Clark line would be greatly appreciated.

I am having the same problem. I have listed as my great-grandmother a Jennie E. Lockwood (grandfathers birth certificate). She died in East Saginaw, MI. There are NO records for a Jennie Lockwood anywhere. The reason I believe that her name was actually Rockwood is the registration of my grandfathers birth in Lanark, Ontario using the name Jane E. Rockwood. I have found only Rockwoods in Ontario and Michigan that fit the time frame. I have found a Eliza J. Rockwood whom I believe may be my "Jennie".

parents of Roederick Rockwood

Dear Rockwood researchers. Roderick Rockwood is my 3g grandfather. I am trying to find hard evidence for the names of his parents. I notice that several family trees identify the parents as Thomas and Abigail. However, in the 1880 census you will find Roederick living with his son in KS and he gives France as the birthplace for his father with NH as the birthplace of his mother. The extensive 2 volume work on the Rockwoods "Four Centuries of American Descendants of Richard Rockwood" by Vivian Rockwood identifies a Thomas Rockwood, spouse Agibail Parmenter living in Hinsdale NH in the late 1700s and their youngest son is Roderick Randam (p. 165) Vol I. But this Thomas Rockwood was born in MA, not France. In addition, this Roderick was born in 1796 not 1803 as "our" Roderick consistently states in census records and the major work by Vivian cited above offers no further history for this Roderick Randam. I am doubtful the author(s) would have missed such an extensive record by a male, direct line descendant.

So, do any of you have data such as birth certificate or obit of Roderick that identifies parents with father born in France?

Also of passing curiosity, in the 1860 census you will find the 5 youngest children of Roderick living with a Richard A Rockwood in Putnam Co, MO. (my home town). This is the only time Richard is mentioned. Is he a brother of Roderick? Anyone know?

Thanks for your time, Steve Rockwood

Yes, I have both volumes of her book from 2000 (and a letter of inquiry from her to my relatives). However, her research of my line ends at my great-grandfather (maybe nobody responded to her letter - I don't know). Anyway, I was wondering if anybody knew of someone continuing and/or updating her research.
Thanks, Cynthia

Hello,
I am looking for information on James P or Jas Rockwood b. 1880 in Walla Walla Washington. The only info I have is married Anna C. (Moran)Petterson or Patterson (second marriage for her) and had a daughter named Bernice Evalyne. Bernice is my grandmother, but abandoned her children at least once and was known to use aliases. Any information would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Shannon

Dear Ken and Dale, I don't have upholding capabilities, but I do have the wedding photo of Francis Marion and wife Sara Anderson (married in Centerville, IA in Jan.1860, before he left for the CW in 1861) if you would care to give me your snailmail address. If either of you have any data on him, or other photos, I would be most anxious to see that info. Are either of you related to the Rockwood line? Both Francis Marion and Sara are buried in either Centralia or Chehalis, WA..I'll have to get out my files to be sure which. Their son James is the direct link through which my late husband, Edward, was related.Karen Rockwood

Please contact me personally so we can chat about Francis Marion Rockwood, a son of Roderick Rodham Rockwood..and a g.g.gfather of my late husband, Ed Rockwood. I have been searching for as much as I can learn of this man. His brother, Roderick Jr. wrote a journal while he served in the CW but I have never been able to get a copy of it, as I believe the owner of the manuscript died before publishing it. However, I know that Roderick served MO/PA, while Francis went over the MO border to enlist in IA in 1861,and brother John served for IL.About 1872,the family left MO and moved to KS, then to WA..where my husband's g.father was later born to Francis.Reach me at: 214-501-6021,VM if needed or at:501 Highland Dr.,#514 Lewisville, TX 75067, or this email: karen_rockwood@hotmail.com.
The Rockwood family I know of was of Dorchester in 1633 and Braintree in 1636. The ancestor was Richard Rockwood (Rockett). Vivian VaLera Rockwood compiled a family history in 2 volumes. I first found it in the library in Mendon, MA where John Rockwood is listed as a founding father. I descend from this family. My line ends when Susanna Rockwood dies in 1736 in Mendon. She married a Moses Tenney and had one son survive--Josiah Tenney

The Book is called "4 Centuries of Amerian Descendants of Richard Rockwood". I only own volume 1. There are 2 volumes. Copyright 2000. Good luck.
Sandra - I have a copy of the Vivian Rockwood book too. My family tree starts on page 512 of Vol. I with Samuel and Miranda, my great-great grandparents. Our branch is also outlined begining page 692 with Mary C. Rockwood, my great grandmother. There are mistakes in dates etc. at least in my section of the book so I am supposing throughout the book. I currently live in California. Others in my branch live in MN, WA, and AR.

I don't think so. I know of several in MA and NH.

I don't think any surname will ever dye out completely. Georgraphic areas where there found may change, but names won't dye out completely as long as there are male family members that could pass it down.

If anyone has access to phone directories or other ways of finding out who the Rockwoods were/are in Ayer, Fitchburg or Luneberg I would appreciate it if you would e-mail their names and addresse's.
Right now I am interested in finding an obituary for a Mrs Rockwood, in her 90's that diedd about April-May or so of 2009. She may have been in one of the above towns, or in NH.

I would also like to learn about family members. I know that Mrs Rockwood, had at least one son, and he is married and has 3 children.

My e-mail is barb19401@verizon.net

Thank you

Barbara

obituary !

This is going to be difficult, if not impossible, but I'd appreciate someone trying at least.

I am looking for an obituary for a woman named ? Rockwood.
I think she died about 3 or 4 months ago, perhaps around
April or May. She I believe was either in NH, or in the Ayer area of MA(not quite certain about this though)

I know that she had a least one son name Dale, who lives in Byfield, is married and he has 3 children.

Sorry I don't have more infomration, but as I said, a try is all I am asking, and if you can find it, that would be wonderful. You could e-mail it to me at barb19401@verizon.net, if you would prefer, if found.

Thank you one and all.

Barb
