Edward RODGERS died 1916 in Carlton,Texas

My great grandfather that I am researching was named William Durham Rodgersand was married to Marjorie Elizabeth Ward. He was born in 1855 and died 1916 in Carlton,Texas. The 1910 census showed him in Hamilton County, Texas and that he was from Mississippi. With a name like Durham for a middle name could he have been named after a place or family member? I have a notation on a slip of paper in with family info that has a Hough or Hugh rodgers about 1815 but it doesn't say whether this is William's father or not or where the family is from. Thanks, Pat

Rodgers(Rogers), James Martin, Virginia, unknown county

I am searching for my 3rd great grandfather's family. James Rodgers(Rogers) b. 1834 (unk)Virginia, married Sarah C. White Highland Oh 1868, lived and died Grand Traverse Mi. d. 1910. I am trying to find his family in Unk. Virginia. His census list him as both as black or mulatto, I am assuming he or his family was not free and possibly (because of his Ohio residence) he left immediately after freedom or he escaped. Of course this is all speculation. Any possible information or leads would be greatly appreciated. I am descended through his daughter Margaret "Maggie" Rogers (mulatto), her son Russell Robinson(white)(no marriage with the father (white)Warren R. Robinson) and Russell's son Warren R. Robinson (white) of Grand Traverse and Cadillac Mi.

No, I did not know that about George Rodgers Jr. There were a lot of G. Rodgers' in our family which makes it a little difficult to figure out who they are.

Did you see AP Rogers in Pettus, Lonoke, Ar Census in 1910. He is married to Phillis and listed with them is my grfather, George (not clear) with a daughter named Lillian, son and another daughter and other living with them. In the Arkansas Lonoke County Geneaology website listed are early Lonoke County marriages. I believe Albert is listed as marrying several times.
I am Charles' (Library) sister.

Hi Cynthia,
Yes, my Albert (Pony) Rodgers is the same person that you are researching. As I understand, he was not married to Cressie, but they had Forrest Rodgers and I think maybe possibly a girl together. So, that would make Uncle Forrest and my grandfather George Bob half brothers. As I mentioned before George Bob's mother was Annie Bell who married Albert Pony. Hope that helps. I also know that Uncle Forrest had a son named George Rodgers Sr. and I believe there is a George Rodgers JR.

Faye

You may remember that I contacted you a week or so ago with a query. I now have some answers. Julian's antecendents: John & Rasamond Rodgers both musicians from the Windsor area b.c. 1750 maaried 1772. son William (1773 - 1827) married Elizabeth Baker 1796. 2 sons (1) Frederick Robson T. G. (2) Julian E. D. b. 1815.
William was a very talented professional musician, performed in London and elsewhere. looking for patrons? Is this why he named his 2nd son after Sir Edward Disbrowe (1790 - 1851) who had connections with Windsor? My friend, for whom I am doing the research is a decendant of Frederick Florian Rodgers.

Hi Cynthia,
It's been a while since I heard from you. George Bob Rodgers was my grandfather. His mother was Annie Bell. Annie and Albert Pony married in Lonoke in 1882. It has been said that Albert Pony's mother was full-blooded Cherokee, but don't know if it's true or not. I will take a look at your tree.

Thanks.

Hi Fay
I am still looking for information on Pony. He was married to a Priscilla in 1880. I know you are right about the brothers I don't know what the sisters name was I heard Effie. I found a Effie around Fort Smith but don't know it that is her. Who is George Bob's mother and where did they live. George was my grandfather but his middle name was not Bob. I would love to have a picture. You can go to my tree and look at the Rodgers side.
Thanks Cynthia

I am not casting doubt on the race of your family member, but in my own research I have found it best to keep a very open mind when looking through records that have been transcribed by mere humans. I have found some listed as black, when the original record plainly said white (and vice versa, of course!), a lot of people in the late 1800's and early 1900's listed their race as White rather than Indian for different reasons (especially if they were less than full-blood), sometimes just because of their self-identity-they thought of themselves as white, not thinking about their great-grandmother's Indian blood.

There hasn't been activity on this post in several years, but I'm hoping to find anyone with any info on the Rodgers from Jackson County, AL. My dad was the only son of Hubert Rodgers. My grandfather was Hubert Rodgers, my great-grandparents are Richard Lacy Rodgers and Bettie Gamble. I am very interested in finding info on Hubert's first wife, Beatrice Mathews. She died in 1935 (when my dad was only 2). Very interested in tracking my geneolgy, but keep hitting roadblocks on Beatrice's side.

It lists her as a sister born in 1884 (which would have made their Mother 53 at Flora's birth). She could possibly be a sister to his wife, Susannah Kirkland Price, though I am not sure about that one.

All I know about them is that the Rogers, Chenoweths and Carters moved from Ross County, Ohio together to Vigo Co., IN. And quite possibly my Jonathan Wood, whom I'm researching, came with them. I am looking for the parents of Jonathan (John Rogers) who died in 1860 in Terre Haute. He came from Ross County Ohio is the mid 1820s and from Virginia before that. He was born in 1794 and I believe he was either born in Hampshire or Loudon County, VA. Do you know if this could be the same John I am researching? All help is appreciated,

Thanks.,

Eric Kerr
Hi

I can only give you history on Catherine Havard son William Williams who was my g.g.grandfather. There seems to be a mystery about their relationshp as from what we know Catherine fell in love with William Wiliams who was the coachman at her parents home. Because of this she was thrown out of the family home. All we know is that her brother used to visit from time to time and give her money. The only possesion that we know she took from the house was a small jug which my cousin keeps. The subject of her family was never raised at their home.I have no details of birth/marriage/death so would be very grateful if you could pass any information on to me. We don't even know if Catherine had any other chldren apart from William as we can't find any trace of them on the census.
I am looking for my g.g.g.grandmothers details. She had a son William Williams who eventually lived in Llanelli. I can't find any details of Catherine on the Census records and have no details of her father. Because Catherine was thrown out by her parents very little was spoken of the family. She married William Williams who was the coachman at her parents home.
