well its pretty hard to help you out since you dont know anything about ur family.. U should try to find out through relatives... I can share some of my family information.. My grandfather was Fauusto Rojo he was from Jalisco mexico. All of my closer relatives Rojo's live in California. I'll get some more information and we can share it.. Hope to hear from u soon!!!

Ive searched on the web and most of the rojo families are from mexico and i found that the last name rojo comes from spain. If we work together we might find where we originated from. Dear Olga,

All the records for Aranda de Duero are in the bishop's archives in Burgos, Spain. I've been there, and they are very helpful, but they have short hours. If you visit, make sure you write ahead, and plan your time carefully. We arrived about 45 minutes before opening time, because there is a line and only six seats for researching in the archives. Arriving early gives you a good chance of being at the head of the queue. It would be a shame to travel all the way to Spain and not get in! The hours are short, something like 10AM to 2PM, just a few days a week.

You can also write to the Bishop's office, but I don't know that information (address, etc.) but you might be able to find this out online somehow.

Penacoba is in our family tree, and there is a village named Penacoba near Aranda. I'll bet that is where our common ancient ancestors originated.

I don't know if these records have been microfilmed by the Mormons. If so, you would't have to travel to Spain. I know that the records in Sinovas haven't been microfilmed, so we spent an afternoon at the church in Sinovas copying things out by hand. The pastor at the ancient church there was very helpful, but we had to call ahead.

My husband's great great grandmother was Andrea Penacoba Alameda, and she was married in 1844 and died in Sinovas (a neighborhood of Aranda)wife to Manuel Rojo. Her parents were Eusebio Penacoba and Candida Alameda. Her son Higinio Rojo married Brigida Torres of Sinovas on 27 Nov 1884. Their son Moises Rojo Torres was born in 1902 in Sinovas, and was executed in a mass grave in 1936 at Monte Costajan, near Aranda.

Aranda is a great town to visit. It's in the middle of wine country (Rioja wines) and the specialty of the town is roast lamb, baked in beehive ovens. It's been over five years since we visited, and I can still taste it! The entire town is riddled with ancient winecellars under the houses and streets. There is a historical society there, but I don't know how helpful the folks there would be for genealogy. People in Europe just don't understand genealogy at all!

My paternal grandmother's name was Crescencia Penacoba Lopez, she was originally from Aranda de Duero, not sure of her DOB, somewhere around 1910. She married my grandfather, Raimundo San Martin Lopez, also from Aranda, and they had 5 children, all of which except my father Raimundo (died in 1989) live in Madrid. I would love to know more about that side of the family since I live in the US and have very little connection with them nowdays.

Trying to find more information on Manuel Martinez and his family. He was my g-grandfather. He came from Spain sometime between 1901 and 1907 (the census records differ). He settled in Tampa and worked in the cigar factories. His wife's name was Eloisa Rojo Martinez from Cuba. Children were Rosendo Martinez (my grandfather) and Manuela Martinez. Eloisa had a very large family and we're trying to find more info on where they were from.

Eloisa's parents were Esteban and Maria. Her brother's and sisters were, Rufina, Joaquin, Landida, Antonio, Alberta, Juinta, and Esteban. I'm hoping some of their ancestors are out there, I've found military records on some of them and they died not to long ago, so hopefully....

Gracias por su respuesta, yo tengo el apellido Rojo pues vivo en Australia, y aqui se lleva el apelido del esposo, pero mi apellido de soltera es de la Torre. Mi suegro Dario Rojo Diaz como dije anteriormente era de Galicia, el siempre nombraba Lugo, mi cunada Edita Rojo que actualmente reside en Espana, es medico yreligiosa me menciono antes ella creia el era de un pueblito llamado Chavez, los padres de Dario Rojo Diaz (mi suegro) eran Vicente y Pilar, el tenia un hno que lo nombraba mucho llamado Celestino, que el tenia entendido se habia ido para Sur America desde Espana, y que no habia vuelto a saber de el, tambien se el tenia una hermana llamada Alicia mi suegro se fue para Cuba y alli se caso con Maria Bada Gomez de Santander, un pueblito llamado Pesues en Espana, en Cuba tuvieron 2 hijos, mi esposo Dario Rojo Bada, y Edita Rojo Bada. My name Is Lisa Rojo and i'm trying to find some of my family.
My fathers name was Richard Rojo and he was born in Milwaukee, WI. from what I have been told my grandfather(on my dads side) also lived in Milwaukee. I do know that I have some family in ILL. as well as some spread out in WI but that is about all I do Know. I'm also a Rojo. I was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. My Parents were both born in Colima, Mexico in the year of 1954. My grandparents were born in Jalisco, Mex. and died in Colima, Mex. The Rojo last name comes from my father Rogelio Rojo, his father's name was Felipe Rojo. Well, that's all I can say for now.

I am researching the Rojo family for my husband who is a direct descendant of Juan Bautista, the son of Cristobel and Teresa. Juan migrated to Australia on the ship "Tartar" which arrived at Port Phillip 1852-3. He married Hannah Roberts-Murphy and they had a large family. Juan was a gold miner at Snake Valley [that later became Stanley] in north eastern Victoria. We have quite a large number of family members here in Australia already listed but we have not been able to locate any from Spain . We hope there will be someone who can link up with us and supply information re: brothers/sisters and their descendants etc. We believe Juan originally came from Oveido as that is recorded on his naturalisation certificate of 1868.
