Only Angeline is still alive, in Ontario, Canada.

I cannot find any information about Enzio and Carolina.

Maria Rolando (and possibly Amelio Rolando) in Gallup, NM

I'm looking for more information on Maria Rolando who immigrated to the US from Piedmont to New Mexico in the 1890s, possibly with her brother Amelio.

I am a descendant of Maria Catti (born Maria Rolando) who came from Pratiglione, Torino, Piemonte in Italy around 1892, after the death of her husband. She brought a son and three daughters, settling in Heaton, New Mexico, USA by 1900. (She may have sent for one or more of the children later, as I also have an immigration record for 1908 for Anna, headed to her mother Maria in Gallup, NM).

The family:

Maria Catti, b. 1862, Pratiglione, Italy
Antonio Catti, b. July 1882, Pratiglione
Nina Catti, b. 1886 Pratiglione (may have been called Papina)
Lena Catti, b. 1890, Pratiglione (may have been called Felicita)
Anna Catti, b. Aug 14 1891, Pratiglione

They were listed as "Catty" in the 1900 US census for Gallup (district 20), and I've also seen the name spelled Cattie.

Maria's first husband (a Catti, first name unknown) was probably born about 1860. When he died, the family moved to New Mexico and Anna remarried a Pietro Laurenti (b. 1868), who was later called Peter DeLaurenti and had four more children (Margaret, Lillie, Peter/John, and Catherine).

I know what happened to the descendants, through the 1930s, except for Antonio Catti. Anna, my great-grandmother, ultimately married Joseph Bertelli (b. 1882 in Montelanghe).

I'm curious how Maria connects back to other Cattis and Rolandos in Italy. As I mentioned, I believe her brother Amelio Rolando was also in the US around 1900. I have a few pictures I can share.

Thanks for any leads!

I think my great grandmother, Maria Rolando, b. 1862 in Pratiglione, may be Anna's sister. I also think they had a brother who came to the US named Amelio (whom I have a picture of with my great grandfather, but cannot find in any records).

Do you suppose the Anna Rolando referred to as the closest relative to #11 Anna Catti (who was Maria Rolando's daughter) in the attached records (page 1 and page 2) is your target?

Would be interested in trading more information.

Michelle- I wonder if you happen to have any information on a Mary "Perino-Rolando" from Coal City (b. about 1870 in Pertusio, Italy and died Nov 3,1946 in Coal City) ? She was married to James (Giacomo) Berta. Their son Anton was my grandfather, and my aunt got a copy of his Anton's birth certificate. Until that point, we didn't know that Mary was a Perino-Rolando. We only knew the Rolando part. I have almost no information for her since she came to the US. Some cousins said that she may have the following siblings: Michael, Anthony, Andrew, Edward, Catherine, Vincent, and Margaret. Any help would be appreciated. Feel free to email me at dmccluck@comcast.net.
Dawn McCluckie

Hi, Winnie,
We have talked before. I am Michele Enrietta Micetich. I finally have been to Italy to search my Rolando roots. My great grandfather Michael Rolando married Theresa Perona. She is listed as Theresa in the 1880 census but in later census records you will find her as Jenny or as Jean. 1880 is the year they arrived in the US. They lived on the county line road, known as Monkey Robinson's corner, on the border of Will/Grundy, south of the Diamond. They were on the Will County, Reed Twp side. Later they are on the Grundy County side. They also ran a saloon/second hand goods store in Carbon Hill in 1900 so you will see them in the 1900 census in both places. Their children are Kate, John, Joe, Margaret, Peter, Frank, Ann, Tom. Kate married Wm Kramer, and Ann married Tom Gilmour. There are other Rolando's whose children have same or similar names but are not the same household. For more information email me at micetich@comcast. net
Michele
Maria & AJW produced my g/father William WELCH 24.08.1880. His birth was registerd as Augustine John TITCHINER (Maria ROLANDO was married to Susannah's brother, James TITCHINER)
The child next surfaced in the 1891 London census, now named William TITCHINER, a 'relation' of his natural father AJW, & then again at his marriage in Plymouth, Devon, in 1910 when he was now known (until his death in 1967) as William WELCH
Just to confuse things even more, the mother of James TITCHINER & Susannah TITCHINER is believed to be the Aunt of Augustine John WELCH
I have loads of certificates & other info I can copy to anyone who can link in with my convoluted family.
Thanks,
Mike WELCH

Hi Sheri...Nice to hear from you. Rolandos are my cousins...My dad's sister Katherine Weikum married Peter Rolando in 1919. His parents were Michael and Jennie. I think he Michael had a brother Anton. They were coal miners in the Wilmington, Coal City area in IL. Michael may have had a brother Joseph too. They came to USA in 1880 from Italy and all their children were born in USA...Katherine, Peter, Frank, Louis!, Annie, and Thomas. Peter my uncle by marriage had seven children and they are all living now...Elmer Adam-mayor of Diamond, IL; Clarence Arnold, owner of Rolando's furniture and appliance in Coal City; LaVerne Peter; Ruby Catherine (Green); Irene Bertha (Brooks); Florence Rosella (Mitchell); and William. All born between 1920 and 1935. I think Bill's wife has done some genealogy work on the Rolandos. If you see a connection I will put you in touch with her. She lives near me. I live in Seneca, IL along the Illinois River between Morris and Ottawa, IL. Winnie

I am sorry it took so long for my answer but I am caregiver to two and sometimes I don't know if I am coming or going. Rolando is not my direct family and I don't have too much on them but I see something here about Turin...Torino or whatever. Port Canevisi? and some names- Lucy Gallo, Matthew Gagliardo, Louis Bertino, Mary Mahoney? and my dad's sister, Kate Weikum. Also Fannie Procorione. These people settled around Wilmington, Coal City, Braidwood, IL. We live about 30 miles west of there. Kate Weikum (husband Peter Rolando b. 1893) was my dad's sister. If this matches anything you have I will put you in touch with someone who knows more about this than I. It is nice to hear from you. Winnie

since my last post a year ago Giacomo (james) Rolando and Clara Santerre both naturalized in Grundy Co. Illinois he in 1886 her in 1884. I don't know exactly when they came to Baldwin Co. Alabama but they are listed on the 1900 census.
They were married in 1891. Giacomo was born some time in October 1860 and Clara was born June 27,1875 there seems to be a conflict of the actual day she was born between march and June. I was hoping that maybe a distant cousin would see this and be able to help me out.

He was from Piedmonte.
I know he had a brother and , "John" sounds like a name I recall hearing from my father when talking about his fathers family.

I wonder how many Rolando's were in Piedmont that came to the states? I know there's only a few of us in the East Coast and we are all related, descended from Felix and Laura Rolando.

RolandoFamily@aol.com

Winnie - I can't find my mother-in-laws Bible.
I will visit the cemetery and get dates from the stones.
My husband is John Michael Rolando; his parents are Anna Mae Harris B 16 Nov 1923 and John Rolando B 14 May 1919 died 5 Oct 1975.
Grandparents are Fannie Procorione and Louis Rolando. Gr grandparents Jean and Mike Rolando. Fannie and Louis children are John Rolando (my father-in-law), Louis Rolando Jr., Jean Rolando Vecillio, Margaret Rolando McCarty.
Louis Rolando (gr father) had brother Peter, Frank, sister Kate, Ann (?). They lived in Coal City many years ago. Told stories about cutting ice from the river and selling blocks of ice. There is still some Rolando family members living in Coal City. Also, related to "Bum" Enretta (spelling?) who use to own a tavern in Coal City.
I hope this makes sense. I will get the dates of birth and death from cemetery. I am sorry I can't locate family Bible.
