NEWFOUNDLAND - ROLF or ROLFE

Looking for ROLF researchers with family based in Newfoundland. Perhaps in Point Leamington.

I have a rather complicated family tree on my grandfathers side with lots of adoptions etc and I would really like to solve this puzzle before he passes, as he is in his late 70's and not in good health.

I have been told my grandfathers birth mothers name at birth was Gladys Rolf. I always knew of her as Gladys Randall, so perhaps she was adopted. I also know a brother named Walter Rice, who I now know was also a ROLF. I did find him in the 1921 Census. There also may be another brother for Gladys, Claude. Whether blood brother or adopted I do not know.

RICE Jonas M Head Married 1880 Nov 41 SDA Flurrie's Bight
RICE Charlotte F Wife Married 1884 Oct 37 Meth Boat Hbr
RICE George M Son Single 1912 June 9 Meth Point Leamington
ROLF Walter M Adopted Single 1918 Mar 3 Meth Point Leamington

Gladys married my great grandfather, who already had a daughter Rita, from prev relationship. My ggrandfather Andrew Saunders died when my grandfather was 11 months old of cancer. Rita went to live with her paternal family, and Gladys put my grandfather up for adoption.

Ive tried contacting Rita's descendants but seems a dead end. If anyone can shed a light on this elusive ROLF/E surname it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much
Melissa
gen_bug@hotmail.com

I can't help you with the Rolf side but i can with Sarah Hopple his wife. There is a book which traces the ancestry of your Sarah (Sally) Hopple (daughter of John and Nancy Hopple) back to colonial times. It is in a book "Descendants of the Six Colonial Happel/Hopple/Hoppel Families: a name based genealogy"? If you want more information you can contact me directly at wmhoppel@att.net

He married a Sarah Hopple (1805, Ohio died 1880).

If you have any information that would be great.

Thanks, Windy

Hi: It's been awhile, but I'm still out here. My line is through David Ellsworth Rollf (Indiana), son of Hazen Rollf and Sarah Hopple. Hazen was born 16 May 1775, in Massachusetts and died in 1862 in Iowa (according to my records). This is the line I'm working on.

If you have any information, that would be great.

Thanks, Windy

I bought a beautiful photo identified as Aunt Lillie Roth and was taken by a Wheeling, West Virginia photographer.

I believe this may be Lillie Roth who was enumerated with her family in Wheeling, Ohio Cty, West Virginia in the 1880 Census. Her siblings were Louis, Harmon, Amelia, and Louise. In the 1900 Census, Lillie is living with her sister Amelia Roth SCHAAF, her brother in law Adolf Schaaf, and still living in Wheeling, WV. In 1900, Lillie is listed as a pottery decorator and in the 1920 Census she is listed as a seamstress. She may have never married.

I would like to connect this photo with a family member or family researcher. I am not related.

Please contact me if you have an interest in this original photo.

Kathy@FamilyWeSearch.com

PHOTOS: ROLF & BIEBERSON of Wheeling, West Virginia

I recently bought three photos which seem to connect two families. The first photo is of a GREAT AUNT LOUISE ROTH taken by Tappan & Connel of Wheeling, WV. Louise appears to be in her twenties. She is wearing a high collared patterned blouse with a lace overlay in the bodice. Her hair is pulled tightly back of her head with fluffy bangs.
She is also wearing dangling earrings.

The second photo is identified as Great Grandmother ROLF. This 50-60 year old lady is wearing a black dress with a high collar. On that high collar is a distinctive pin.
The dress has long sleeves that have many gathers. The bodice of the dress is black also, but the fabric appears to be of a satin material with small dots. It is edged by an intricate ribbon. The photographer was the MYLES Art Studio of Wheeling, WV.

The third photo is identified as Uncle BIEBERSON and wife - brother of Grandmother ROLF. The gentleman is wearing a dark suit with a watch tucked into his vest pocket. He is wearing a long dark tie with a white shirt. He also has white/grey hair and a silky mustache. The lady is wearing a greyish dress with a gossamer or silky stole. The bodice of her dress is neatly tucked with an inset of white lace. She is wearing a small pin at her neck. Her hair appears to be rolled to the front of her head. It must have been anchored with hair pins.

I believe this may be Henry Rolf's wife Louise, but I am not sure how the others connect.

Please contact me if you have an interest in these photos.
Put the name of the photos in the subject line.

Kathy@FamilyWeSearch.com

Hello br10196,
I was replying to the authors davidsimmonds message, he/she asked about Emmanuel Rolf from the Isle of Wight who I recently discovered travelled with his wife Jane and his three youngest children Albert Rolf,Jesse Rolf and Emily Rolf in 1857.In the 1881 census Emmanuel and Jane were still in Canada but from what I can see their son Albert Rolf (spelt Rolph) had moved to Chicago, Illinois.

Regards iowmaiden.

Ernest H. Rolf is my gg-grandfather. He immigrated from Germany with his family about 1846 at the age of 1 year. They settled first in Cincinnati OH. He married Mary B. Scheiderer, and they settled and raised their family in Indiana. Ernest was first a teacher, then founded E.H. Rolf Coal Co., later Rolf Heating & Cooling. After Mary's death he married Louise Hitzemann. I have more details if you would like to contact me.

It's the Rolf - Obermeyer family.
I think we have everyone in the family accounted for, at least back to the mid 1800's. If this helps or you can add something let me know

Pocahontas married John Rolfe in 1614. Where were several different spellings og the Rolfe name and decendants included John RANDOLPH of Roanoke, State Represendative of the Great State of Virginia in the House of Representatives. The best Pocahontas genealogy starting point is the excellent information found at http://members.aol.com/lredtail/poca.html

Good luck.

I don't know for certain when the family immigrated but I believe it was in the early 1890's. They ended up in Pueblo, Colorado. They had one son that I know of, John Carl Leonard Rolf. They were all buried in Roselawn cemetery in Pueblo.
I would appreciate any information. Thanks!
