I know my great grandad George did have a big family, but I have never found out all of the names, so I do not know if Job was one of his brothers? & know nothing about the rest of his family.

Hi there, I believe Louisa Rolfe (winter) was my great gran, Mary & Job were her parents. Louisa Rolfe married George & they had 6 children they lived at New Street, Andover, Jack, louisa, Rose, Hilda, Beatie & Lottie. My Nan Louisa married to become Ewen & had 3 children, Christine, Julie & Susan, they lived 56 The Drove, Andover. My Great Grandad I believe had 10 brothers & sisters, so their would have been quite a few Rolfe's about. Any more info, if anyone has any photos? They all use to do Hop picking.

Does anyone have credible information --not hearsay or speculation-- about the relationship between the John Rolfe who was a founder of the Jamestown Colony and the John Rolfe who is on the passenger manifest for the ship "Comfort" (with wife Ann) out of Southampton in 1637/8 that went to the Massachusets Bay Colony? Searching this web site will bring up the passenger list.

Mary Ann attested to that by virtue of her DAR application #33959.

I am looking for proof that Herman M.'s son, Herman Dana Rolfe, and grandson, Dana Stewart Rolfe, are indeed of the same family.
Hi,

You mentioned that your records indicate that Zachariah died in Pilley's Island. Where did you find that record? In what year did he die?

I searched the Corner Brook Public library files with little to no luck. I found a birth record for Leopold Webber and Mary Webber - neither of which are useful to me.

I also figured out that we cannot access church records via the Rooms by distance....so a trip to St.John's is warranted.

Thanks, Robyn

Hi Robyn,

Im newer to this line so Im still working away.

I had known my grandfathers biological mother was born Gladys Rolfe, and had a brother Walter Rolfe...but both had been adopted out to different families. Her to the Randell family, him to the Rice family.

I have no idea on any native history, but would be interested to find out. Im still working on finding out why the children were adopted out, if both parents had passed away or for another reason.

If you find any new information on these lines I would love to hear about it :)

Thanks
Melissa

Hi Jennifer & Melissa,

Have you come across anything suggesting adoption and/or aboriginal ancestry in the Rolfe family?

I've had some luck securing baptism / birth records and marriage records back to the Rolfe children (Robert, Andrew, Arabella and Catherine), but the records are brief. The records do not comment on the contextual information that I am looking for. I am trying to arrange for copies of the true script documents / originals.

Thanks, Robyn

Interesting...the information that you have is in keeping with the oral history in our family. We've heard that Arabella (Mi'kmaq) may have been born in Nova Scotia and relocated to Newfoundland somewhere along the way. (The surnames Brett/Britt and Rolf/Rolfe fit with the observation that many Mi'kmaq surnames are French.)

Like you, I've found documents verifying that Arabella Brett/Britt Rolfe/Rolf and Zacharias William Webber were in Newfoundland as of 1895, but not much before or after that date.

I've made a few local connections in the Corner Brook area and need to really start to look into things on this end (public library microfiche, church records, local groups that can assist with genealogical studies).

I'll stay in touch! Thanks for responding so soon!

No I haven't had any luck. My records also said that Zacharia Webber (husband of Arabella Rolfe)was burried in Pilley's Island.. I have had it checked out and it seems there is no record there... makes me wonder how much of my information is legit...

I was told that Arabella was a full bred Mi'kmaq butI cannot find any information regarding that.. do you have anything?

Jenn

We've just started to research our family tree. It appears that there is a direct family connect to Ambrose and Matilda via maternal lineage. Much like you - we are having difficulty finding further information regarding Ambrose or Matilda. Have you had any luck over the spring / summer?

Thanks for your time!

Rolfe family of Wiltshire/Hampshire

My partner,a Rolfe, has recently discovered that her Family roots are in the area that lies on the Wiltshire?Hampshire border.Alter much research in Record Centres in Winchester,
Chippenham & London a picture has begun to emerge.
We thought a couple of general points would be useful to others researching this family and also hopefully to clarify
some misconceptions.
The Rolfe family we are concerned about begins with John
Rolfe who married Margery Hatchett in Over Wallop Wiltshire in 1600.So far,the origins of both are unknown. What we do know is that they both died in Porton Wiltshire and were buried in Cholderton, also in Wiltshire.
There is,at the moment,no documentation to link this family
with the Rolfe family of Whiteparish. This is not to say that they are not connected just that we have no evidence.
There are many trees that show a John Rolfe, born in Idmiston c1580,lived in Whiteparish,as the father of Edmund Rolfe born in 1606 in Winterbourne Gunner Wiltshire. This is clearly not the case as we have documentary evidence that this John Rolfe followed his brother,Henry,to America where he died.Henry Rolfe's Will clearly mentions his brother John.
There also appear to be family trees which also show this John Rolfe connected to Pocahantas, which is also untrue as that John Rolfe was from Heacham in Norfolk.I have an interest here,as a decendant of John's son Thomas,Anne Bolling, married a distant cousin of mine,William Alexander Dandridge.
We hope some researchers will find this information useful.

Would also love to know what your map shows. I am the great great grandaughter of David Rolfe killed in the Civil War. A few years ago I did make contact with an Alice Rolfe whom I believe was in her 90's. Right now some English Rolfe's have been emailing regarding their tracking information regarding Samuel's' parents ect., and back from there.

On the 1880 Census there are two James Rolfe living with David one was 11 and the other 20. Our direct line would be the one that was 20 as he was born in 1859 and Davids son was born in 1869. Also James Arthur Rolfe in his obituary was listed as being born in England. Any idea as to who his parents were. there is also an emily rolfe age 16 on the 1880 census who I do not believe was Davids daughter. James Arthur I believe was naturalized in 1872.
