Okay, My mom's mom Elsie Marie McDonald was born about the 6th of Aug in 1915 in Tennessee and she died in 1978 in Prescott, Arizona. She got married about 1946 to a Schwab. Elsie's parents were Lonnie T. McDonald and her mom was Gertrude Watts.

Ok my step mom found another person who could be her dad,J>W> Rollins born May 29, 1903 in Tennessee and died in 1960. See he had 2 daughters born in 1942 I was told. I know one of them was born in Athens, Tennessee.

Her birth certificate said her dad was born in Chatanuge, Tennessee and her mom Elsie in Athens, Tennessee.

Could Bill Rollins be related to this man?
You don't know how thankful I am that you are trying to help us. We appreciate it so much.

I don't know if finding someone who died in the late 70s would lead you to find someone who possibly died in the 50s. Elsie Marie McDonald is not the most unique name. Do you know where she died?

Do you have your stepmother's birth certificate? Is his information listed on it? Does she know his siblings, etc.? Do you know which town he supposedly died in?

See my step mom knows nothing about her father except what she was told and a lot of it were lies. She was born in Athens, Tennessee in 1942. She was told her dad was about 40 years old when she was born. So that would have put him at being born about 1902. They told her in the 1950's is when he was shot in Tennessee. Do you think by searching under Elsie Marie McDonald maybe something could be found like any people she had lived with? I think that is only thing that I can do. I know this is a long shot, but I was wondering if there was a way to look up any Rollins that died in the 1950's and up in the Obituary?

The Tennessee death index is online at Ancestry, as are the actual death certificates. I'm not seeing any that fit the bill. Do you happen to know his parents' names or where he was born?

Hi, I am researching information on Bill Rollins, He was between 1900 to 1905 and died in the 1950's in Tennessee. There is a possibility that he also went by the name of William Wrilens. Bill Rollins worked for the Blue Cab Company when he was shot in the 1950's in Tennessee. He was with Elsie Marie McDonald who was born about 1913 and died in 1978.
Any help to lead me in the right direction would be great
Thank you.

Hi, I am looking for information on Bill Rollins who was born between 1900-1905. He was shot in Tennessee in the 1950's to mid 1950's. Now on William Wrilens would be the same as Bill. I am thinking they are the same people, but used two different names. Now Bill Rollins was with a Lady named Elsie Marie McDonald born about 1913 and passed away in Arizona in 1978. Any help would be amazing.

William Perry Rollins is the son of Georgia Ann Perry 1859- and James (jarvis) Henry Rollins 1833-1905. They had kids William Perry 1883-1933, James R 1886-1920 (richard I believe), Benjamin Harrison 1888-1929, Joseph Charles 1890-1929, Albert Thomas 1892-1973, Eva 1894-, Oscar Austin 1896-1959, Larah 1899-. I'm stuck at James Henry Rollins...can't find his parents. He was born in Kentucky and his parents are from Virginia. James Henry Rollins, father to your grandfather William Perry Rollins, served in the civil war in the musicians corp. He is buried in a cemetery in Gainesville, Florida and has the musician symbol on his grave. The only story from family that are still around and can remember is that James Henry Rollins' parents were horse breeders...hope this helps. If you can find anything on his parents, please let me know.
Brittany Keedy married to Joseph Rollins (great great grandson of James Henry Rollins).

I have been looking at the Rollins DNA project to see if I can come up with a line from the area of Westmoreland Co.King George in the 1750's. I do have a cousin who can take the test. I have done so on another family name which was also difficult to track.
I think your best bet is to find a male Rollins descendant and have him do a DNA test. That should help you figure out which Rollins line he comes from and narrow down your search. If he is from the south then you will probably be surprised to find out that the name for Most Rollins family members who originate in Southern states is actually spelled Rawlings and not Rollins. For my family, after serving in the Revolution and moving to North Carolina in 1790 from Jamestown. My 5th gr grandfather changed the spelling to Rollins so his son (James)would not be confused with James Rawlings a well known Torrey and Traitor who lived in Raleigh NC just a few miles away. I got stuck trying to figure out where my Rollins family came from until the DNA test matched me to 9 Rawlings family members and not a single person with the name Rollins.

African American Rollins family in Giles Co., TN 1827 from Orange Co., VA

I'm going to transcribe here a passage from the "Flournoy Rivers Transcripts" in which Flournoy Rivers transcribed in the late 1890s court records from Giles County, TN. There is some very valuable genealogical information here on this Rollins family of color.

******

Saturday Nov. 24, 1827

RECORDS OF FREEDOM

Several certificates of freedom of the children of Caty Rollins of whose own freedom I made a note in 1818.

"On motion of John Mandelbert Rollins, son of the late John Rollins, dec'd, and Caty Rollins, a free person of colour, aged twenty one years the 20th of this month, of a dark complexion though not black. Five feet eleven and half inches high, with bushy hair, the left eye a little cross. It was ordered to be certified that he was born free, " page31."

A like entry follows about Jane Francis Jones, formerly Rollins, 18 years old June 30, 1827, five feet, four inches high, dark complexion, not black, bushy hair, knot on each little finger on the outside, scar on the breast.

Then on motion of Caty Rollins, a mulatto woman aged about forty-one years with a small scare on the upper part of the left cheek, five feet, one and a half inches high, whose freedom was certified by the clerk of Orange County, Virginia, April 4, 1817 and recorded here at the February term 1818. It is ordered that her minor children were born free: Daniel, born July 8, 1811; Charles, Oct. 17, 1813; Reuben Sept. 10, 1815: William Johnson, May 14, 1817; Betsey Ann, Feb. 7, 1819; Sally Ann, Oct. 7, 1820; Andrew Jackson, May 31, 1822; George Washington, Oct. 13, 1823.

This seems to have been a piece of forethought on the mother's part who like St. Paul, was either "born free," or like the Roman captain had obtained it with "great sum."

*******

According to Grover's 1957 death certificate, his father was James Lackland. The 1870 census of Knox County, MO shows a James Lackland born about 1858. Almira's parents were William Rawlings and Elizabeth Ann Lair. I research the Rawlings family and can go back a few more generations. It's more than four years since you posted, so I don't know if you are still there.
Hello, I'm responding to your post about Massey Rollens. Massey was the mother of my Great-great Grandfather Richard Watson. He lived in Blackfoot, Idaho and passed away 1890. I have been searching for her parents. She must have passed away within 10 years of her marriage to James. I found James Watson married again and having more children. Any information you have on Massey and James would be appreciated.

My gr-gr grandfather was James Vernon Rollins b. abt 1839, who married Harriet Bishop. They grew up in Spartanburg SC, married and moved to Cherokee Co Georgia, then Chattanooga, TN.

The Bishop family is accounted for, but James Rollins family info isn't certain, although there was a Polly Rollins with a son James of about the right age, living in Spartanburg. But I have no proof that she was his mother.

There was a census spelling in Chattanooga one time of Rawlings, but that, I believe, is incorrect.

James and Harriet had one son Andrew and Louella, who is my great grandmother.

If you have any information I'd appreciate it a lot! Thanks, Kathy

Re: Benson Fletcher ROLLINS

I've always been intrigued by this Benson Fletcher Rollins. In 1850, he was residing with Campbell and Rebecca (Stephenson) Woods. In 1860, he was residing with my ancestor, George and Mary/Polly (Stephenson) Rollins. Rebecca and Mary/Polly were sisters. I've always wondered if George and B.F. were related and how... I have NO information on George's parents and thought that B.F. might provide a clue!

In 1842, George Rollins along with Henry Shamblin and Joshua King jointly purchase a large tract of land in Nicholas County, (W)Va (2000 acres). George would've only been 22. Henry and Joshua were 10-15 years older. Often wondered if these lines are intertwined, as well.

George marries Mary Stephenson in Nicholas County in Oct 1844. In 1846, Shamblin, King and Rollins divide the land and George gets over half of the acreage.

In 1850, another male is living with my George and Mary Rollins - a Cassett Rollins. When we corresponded years ago, Bev believed he was a brother to Benson Fletcher. Perhaps George is the uncle to the two boys?

I don't have anymore info on Thomas, but would be happy to exchange what I do have. mdsmith25@ktis.net

Frances and Velinda Rollins Sisters?

I'm trying to untangle my great-great grandmother's heritage. Her name was Frances L Rollins. I've seen her name spelled Francis as well, and she may have gone by Fannie. She was born in Virginia in 1846, and died in Monroe county Missouri on 4 APR 1888. She married Charles F Smith in Nov. 1867. They had 5 children: David 1868-1876, Charles William 1871-1929, Bertie A 1873-1953, Martha E 1876-1968 and Annie B 1879-bef 1893. In the 1870 census, there was a Velinda Rollins living with Charles and Frances. Velinda was born in Virginia in 1843. She does not appear in any other census records that I have found. I have found a William and Rebecca Living in Monroe county Missouri in the 1860 census and in Loudoun Virginia in the 1850 census. They have a Frances born 1846 and a Velinda, but Velinda was born in 1832 or 1834 depending on the census. However, the 170 census shows Velinda still living with William and Rebecca, so I'm not sure if these are my Frances Rollins' connections or not. I do not find a Velinda Rollins born in 1843 in any other census records. Any help in untangling this family would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to contact me via email at mdsmith25@ktis.net as well.
Thanks,

I am working on my Rollins family history. My great grandmother was Dorothy Rollins, daughter of Edith Hurd Rollins and Joseph Rollins. Not sure if you are part of the same branch or not. I do know that the family was spread out and spent time in Mass, NH, Maine and Vermont. Her siblings were Ruth, Rachel and Freeman Rollins. You can reach me via email bkjslaven@yahoo.com. Maybe we can help each other out.
