George & Diane

Not sure if this helps at all, but found this as part of my own Roo research.

The 1881 census shows Cyrus (58)and Ellen (50) living at Crag Hill (which I believe was near Broadgate Lane ?)together with their sons John Henry(age 22), a quarryman and Thorp (5). The Whites Directory for 1870 shows a Cyrus Roo a stonemason and quarry owner living on Bachelor Row, still in existence at the top of Town Street, off Long Row, where many Roos were resident. Could this be the same Cyrus, son of Richard and Sarah, although the census records Cyrus as a farmer of 7 acres ?

The Kelly's Directory of 1882 shows a Jas Roo living at Long Row, being a Grocer and Tea dealer. This matches the 1881 census entry for James Roo, widower, living with Arthur his nephew.

All would seem to confirm your findings.
Researching Richard Roo b. abt 1791, lived in Horsforth, married Sarah b. abt 1796.
Children were: Cyrus (George)b.abt 1821 Horsforth (married Ellen b. abt 1831 Hull Yorkshire, John b.1816 , Hannah b.abt 1821, Richard b. 1819, Joseph b.1826, James b.1826, and Charles b. 1829.

It is possible that Cyrus and Hannah were twins, as well as John and James.

Richard was a stonemason, as were his children Joseph and Charles. James was a grocer. It was noted that he died at age 68, a widow, 2 Aug 1894.

I believe Hannah married Benjamin Lawson and had a son, John Lawson.

Looking for:
Names of parents for RICHARD ROO b. 1791
Maiden Name of SARAH ROO b. 1796
Names of parents for SARAH ROO b. 1796
Maiden Name of ELLEN ROO b. 1831, wife of Cyrus Roo
Names of parents of ELLEN ROO b. 1831

Any clues much appreciated.
George & Diane
