My father was Patrick Henry Rooney from Akron Ohio. He had 3 children with his first wife, then 3 other children with his second wife. I am one of the daughters from his second marriage. He was stationed in Augusta, Georgia until he passed away in June, 1980, at the age of 52, from leukemia.

Hello Keith, my gg grandfather was "Bernard Rooney (Runnie), husband of Rosanna Kelly . I have been unable to determine where he was born,but he lived in the Pennicuke district in Edinburgh, Scotland. He had two sons that I know of, Peter and Patrick. Peter was my g grandfather. I grew up hearing of a great uncle who came home from America for a visit..this would have been in the late 40s to early 50s I think. The story was that they had emigrated to New York state. The gg grandmothers names are different but there may have been more than one marraige. I am located in Virginia now having emigrated myself in the 1978.

Searching for Elizabeth Rooney Powers family info

Great grandmother's name was Elizabeth ROONEY who was born in the US - most likely in NY. She married a Charles POWERS and bet. 1899-1900 had a daughter named Anna Veronica Powers, whose marriage cert states she was born in Brooklyn NY.

I can't find them in any census, nor in the NYC Brides/Grooms index. Their daughter, Anna, was married in 1920 to Oliver Reynolds in Yonkers, PA which is where she resided at the time.

If anyone has any connection to this family or has come across Elizabeth in or around the NY area in the late 1800s/early 1900s, I'd greatly appreciate your response.

It is free but you have to register in order to ask a question. The people there are really helpful. It will help them if you give them the year he emigrated or at least immigrated in order for them to narrow down the search.

Edward J Rooney born in Dublin Ireland 21 December 1888 died in Akron, Summit, Ohio, 17th May 1945, who married c 1920 Lydia Wingier nee McFarland;
and Thomas J Rooney born 23 March 1889 Dublin Ireland died 10 May 1952 Akron, Summit, Ohio, who married Leah Victoria Bone in Essex, England in 1914 both emigrated to U.S.A. arriving in New York in September 1914
They also had a brother Matthew who was born 1894 in Dublin, Ireland and left Liverpool, England arriving in New York on 8th August 1913 on voyage to Argentina; I found Matthew died 1919 accidently shot by another soldier on March 1 1919 I am putting together my family history and would very much like to make contact with any of the decendand cousins; I have other pieces researched in the U.S I look forward to making connections;Please contact me directly

Hi again,

Some records seem to be under maiden names so you get her family's information. I am trying it both ways on records I have any doubts about. There are so many Mary Rooneys and Mary McAloons that it is difficult to be sure you have the right one unless all other info confirms it.

For instance, my nephew just put in his tree, a Mary Rooney, born 1836. That would have made her 19 when Michael was born and he wasn't the oldest. Not too many teen Moms in Ireland back then. 1821, as I have it, made more sense, since it would have her 3 years younger than Owen, rather than 18 years younger.

So many families with lots of kids! My Coleman-Brennan grandmother was sent to live with her Coleman grandparents because there were too many kids for the little thatched cottage. I saw it when I was in Ireland ini 1982 and couldn't imagine more than 4 or 5 at the most. I think she said there were 13 of them.

They came up on the 1851 England census in Birkenhead, Cheshire. I'll look up the info.

I also have Colemans on my mother side. GGranmother was a Briget Coleman from either Mayo,Sligo or Rosscommon, Ireland

I haven't had any luck tracking them down, but I do have distant cousins who still live in the area and I think the families are buried in a cemetery in Monasteraden, Sligo. Might you be connected to those Colemans?

I also should note - I first looked on the Ellis Island site and found only the same Alexander Rooney as noted by the other researcher. However, the 1930 census says he came in 1916. I then searched on http://stevemorse.org/
which is easier to search - when you then click on the name you want, it takes you to the Ellis Island site. That is where I found the Alexander that came in 1917.
