I would like to connect with anyone who shares the ROS surname. My great grandmother, KATARZYNA ROS was born July 10, 1886 in Korczyna, Galicia (Poland today) and eventually settled in Newmarket, New Hampshire, United States around 1905. It is believed she had 2 sisters (both may have remained in the country) and one brother who came to the U.S.

I have listed the surname of GROCHWAL as her mother's maiden name. I also have the name Joseph BLECHARCZYK listed as her maternal grandfather.

If any of the names sound familiar, I would like to connect.
KATARZYNA ROS
GROCHWAL
Joseph BLECHARCZYK

Hello- I'm also originally a Ros. My great-great grandfather was Bernard Ros born in Scotland in 1821 and married a Juana Cordes from Valencia, according to a family tree I have. They later settled in the Netherlands. I know nothing about Bernard's family- whether the family emigrated from Scotland or whether he emigrated alone and do not know how he met a woman from Valencia.

I checked with a couple of my cousins here and no one is sure how owned or owns the tavern in town. I was there in 1978 and don't remember being introduced to a relative who owned it. (Actually, it is more like an open social club, with the gelato store attached.) But the Andrea Quattrin who married Rosa Ros was nicknamed "Perbacco" which means something like "through wine." He was mayor of Zoppola at one point and owned several houses and surrounding farms. He had 10 children who divided the property. My ggrandfather Giovanni Battista (who my father is named after) apparently could not manage his money and lost most of his inheritence, even before the Germans came in to occupy the area. My great aunt Palmira said he made money during the War selling wine to the Germans, but almost everyone in town makes their own wine and his sales don't necessarily imply that he ran the bar. All of his 12 children migrated to Northern California. Do you have any information about Rosa Ros's pedigree?

Keven,

The information I have regarding Ros's in Zoppola comes from my Aunt who came to this country in 1935 just before the second world war. She only met the Ros's in Zoppola twice, once when she was ~5 and again when she was 10. She is now 87 so her information is somewhat dated. She said my great aunt (who is now 102) may know more and she is going to attempt to contact her. Sorry I can not do too much better at present. But will keep tring to find out more.
