Thanks for the information. I had already found quite a lot since I posted the query.

I have the father of Maud as John Westfield Rosamond. In the 1880, 1900, and 1910 censuses in Anderson Co., SC, he's listed and John W. Rosamond.

The father was indeed Thomas Austin Wigington (only one "g" is correct spelling for this group/generation of the family) and he was m. Maud Rosamond (Oct 15, 1877-Dec 6, 1916). TAW, Sr. is buried at Mountain Springs Baptist Church north of Piedmont, SC just off SC Hwy 86. Maud R. Wigington is buried with her family in Pickens Cemetery (aka Pickens Chapel Cem, Pickens Presby Cem, Old Carmel Cem, etc etc). Her parents were Thomas Westfield and Aurelia Adelaide Oliver Rosamond, also buried at Pickens Cemetery. Further info available if you desire.
Carl Garrison

I've tried to contact Patty,re the Lee/ Harper family discussion, but have been unable to reach her. I have a photo taken in 1902 of Hessie (Grandma Lee).

Re: Rosamond Surname Y-DNA Project

It has to do with the chromosomes involved. Every female receives and X chromosome from each parent, so every female is XX. A male receives and X chromosome from his mother and a Y chromosome from his father. Thus only males carry a Y chromosome, and the test is based on the Y chromosome which women don't have. Hope that made sense.

Women can be involved if they can get some male in their family to take the test. A father or brother is best. Or a cousin that is descended from a Rosamond male and carries the Rosamond surname, or one of its variations.

From what we remember, Joan Rosamund had one brother, Peter, and a sister that we don't remember her name. As far as we know the sister is still alive and living in England. Joan was born in 1923 and know she married Clinton Snyder we think in England in 1945. She came to the US aboard a passenger ship shortly thereafter, and we think they settled in Kansas, before eventually moving to Ozark, MO. We know Peter had no decendants, so there won't be any rosamunds by name in our family tree.

on a side note, if Joan belongs to the same tree as yours, it would be very ironic. The irish were not her favorite people.
Re: English Rosamond links

Hello. My name is Jimmy Rosamond. My cousins and I have been working on the southern US Rosamond family history for quite some time, and the family appears to tie back to the UK. Legend has it that we are descended from a Sergeant James Rosamond who lived in County Leitrim, Ireland, with descendants in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, England and Scotland. I recently retired and I'm trying to put together a genealogy of the Rosamond family in the UK using census records and other data that I can find online, and get from Rosamond family members in the UK and the US.

Does your husband have any idea as to when his grandmother and/or her brother was born. I checked the 1901 census and could find no record of anyone by either name.

A cousin and I recently began a Rosamond Y-DNA project at Family Tree DNA. Does your cousin have any male relatives he is aware of that still bear the surname Rosamond. If so, it would help tremendously if we could get someone with known ties to the Rosamond family in England, Ireland or Scotland to join the project. As well as any Rosamond men in the US and Canada. This is about the only way we can determine how many actual different Rosamond families there are, and determine a true migration pattern for each family line.

I have the information on my Rosamond line which is posted on ancestry.com at http://trees.ancestry.com/pt/TreeInfo.aspx?tid=3188198&p... or you can visit my website at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~rosamondge.... My personal site is linked to the same family tree at gencircles.com. Both are in need of updating, and I plan to do that in the next few weeks.

You can contact me through this message board, or directly at jdrosamond@comcast.net. I'll be happy to help in any way I can.

Jimmy Rosamond

Rosamond Surname Y-DNA Project

The Rosamond Surname Y-DNA Project is active online at Family Tree DNA. The project is intended to try to genetically link the various Rosamond families who through the years have begun using alternate spellings, as well as tie together those lines of Rosamonds living in various parts of the US and the world. In particular, this will determine which branches of the Rosamond families are descended from the legendary Sergeant Rosemond of Ireland, which from Jacob Rosenmann, and which from other areas.

If you are a Rosamond male (or have a surname with any variation thereof), or have any male friends or relatives with the surname Rosamond, please encourage them to join the project.

In order to join go to the following website:

http://www.familytreedna.com/surname_sum.aspx?let=R&proj...

From here type in the name Rosamond in the search box and click on the Project Search button. (The project hasn’t yet been added to the list of R surnames.)

When the search results come up, click on the name Rosamond which will be highlighted in blue as a link.

This takes you to the page where you can enter your personal information and order a test kit. Click on the drop-down arrow at the end of the “Type of Test” line in order to see the options for the various kits that can be ordered. The only one required to join the project is the Y-12 marker kit for $99. Ordering your kit automatically puts you in as a member of the project.

Possible alternative spellings are:
Rosamond, Rosemond, Rosemon, Roseman, Rosemund, etc.

A website will be developed for project members and I will advise as soon as that is online.

Thanks to all.

Jimmy D.
Thanks for the info and the offer. I'm living in Knoxville, TN so I'm about 4-5 hours from you. I work for Bechtel-Jacobs Co. on a DOE project and we currently have a big layoff scare because no one knows how much funding congress is going to give us. That will last until the current year's budget is approved. So it will be sometime in April before I can get over to SC. But I would very much like to take you up on your offer.

Also, I'd like to exchange info with you on the Rosamond families of the early SC period. After looking again, I did have a Mary as a daughter of JH and Jane Westfield Rosamond. Just no vital statistics and no middle name.

You can contact me off the message board if you want. My email is jdrosamond@comcast.net.

Thanks.
Jimmy Rosamond

Yes, I would very much like to know where these graves were located and if there are any other Rosamond graves there. The fact that this cemetery is overgrown indicates it may be one of those we missed when several of my cousins and I were touring SC cemeteries several years ago.

I suspect that Jane Westfield Rosamond was the wife of John Hodges Rosamond who was married to a Jane or Jennie Westfield. I have her birthdate as about 1791 which would fit pretty well with the dates given here. John Hodges Rosamond was the son of Captain Samuel Rosamond. I am very interested in locating his gravesite and it's possible that he was also buried here.

The only possibility I have in my file for the Mary Jane Rosamond is Mary, daughter of Nathaniel Jones Rosamond, who was the son of James Rosamond, brother to Captain Samuel mentioned above. I have her birthdate as about 1828.

Any additional information you have will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
Jimmy Rosamond
jdrosamond@comcast.net
I am from Piedmont, SC. I do family research. You probably already know this, but I ran across Jane Westfield Rosamond b:11/14/1790, d: 7/20/1883 and Mary Jane Rosamond 10/8/1826 died 3/23/1843 graves in a family plot. I’m sure they were other graves in the plot, but the briars were too much.

If you need any info on where this is or even care let me know.

Patty. I am going to paste below the data I have on descendants of Joseph and Ida Harper Rosamond. This Joseph, generally referred to by the family as big Joe, was the son of William Addison Rosamnd of MS. My grandfather, little Joe, was the son of WA's half brother Marion Franklin Rosamond. I think that makes them half-first cousins. My dad, Ennis Herman Rosamond grew up with the whole Rosamond clan in Weldon, Houston County, TX.

My guess regarding where your Hessie I LEE is buried would be either Weldon Cemetery, where both Joe and Ida are buried, or maybe Antioch Cemetery. I'll go back through my stuff and see if I can find anything. Now, I'm going to try to paste the file below, but I'm not sure if the formatting will carry over. If not you can email me at jdrosamond@comcast.net and I can send you a Word or a txt file.

This data was given to me by Myrtle Beatrice Rosamond, daughter of Joe and Ida Harper Rosamond.

Descendants of Joseph Absolum Rosamond

Generation No. 1

1.

Hello All,

I am looking for descendants of the Joseph and Ida ROSAMOND family. They are listed on the 1910 Census as:
Joseph age 48 b ca 1860 MS
Ida M age 28 b ca 1880 TX
Joseph age 6 TX
Walter G. age 2 TX
Myrtle B. age 2 months
HESSIE I LEE age 80

I am primarily interested in the grandmother: HESSIE I LEE. She is actually the grandmother of Ida M. Rosamond. Ida M's maiden name was HARPER. She is the daughter of J. W. HARPER and Mary (Willie) LEE. Mary "Willie" LEE is the daughter of HESSIE I. LEE and George Hiram LEE. George Hiram LEE is the brother to my GG-Grandfather, Lewis Martin LEE. I have quite a bit of information on the LEE family that I would love to share with descendants of this family of ROSAMONDs. I would also like to know if any family members know where Hessie I LEE is buried. She no longer appears on the 1920 census records.

Thank You,
Patty Smoot
Hi Barbara, I live in Scotland and my sister lives in Bournemouth. we are both Rosemonds of Irish descent In fact we still have a cousin several times removed living in Leitrim who I think is in her eighties or nineties. As far as I know the name Rosemond originated in Holland. In fact I believe the name is very common over there .I have recently been trying to trace some family history, but as thereis no one older than myself, its is a little difficult I would appreciate any info you may have regards Anne Cochran

My great grandfather was named Henry Rosamond. He was born in England (or so my grandmother thought). My grandmother, Daisy Capitola Rosamond was born March 15, 1893, (Roanoake, VA?) m. Guy Tovell Gleaves in 1912, d. May 6, 1943, Dallas, TX. Her parents were Henry Rosamond and Alice Bower Butler who were married Feb. 11, 1890 in Fincastle, VA (although Bible says he was "of Buchanan, VA" and she of "Brough Hills or Mills", VA. One or both were probably married previously. I have photo of our Henry Rosamond with children -- my grandmother and her brother being much younger. Can you shed any light on these Rosamonds? THANKS. Email me personally.
Teddie Bryant
