The last we had: Holtermannstr. 7, D-21680 Stade, and the phone was 04141-777938. I don't remember if his wife, Grid or Grit, spoke English, but I think the sons did. He was such a nice man, just can't believe he's gone. Do you have any info on his brother? Wonder if he's still alive. Did Gernot mention any info on his physical condition when last you heard from him? I knew he had lost a leg.

Yes, I'm still active, although I haven't been doing much genealogy since moving to a wonderful 2 acre place, where we can raise real tomatoes. That was 5 years ago. I just heard this summer than Gernot had died which really saddened us. How are you doing? Our friend who lived in Rancho Cordova has moved to Eugene, Oregon, about an hour from us. Art has been having quite a time physically, since May 2010 and we haven't done any traveling. First he had open heart surgery whieh went fine and he was rehabbing after then when his back flared up and so in Sept 2010 he had back surgery right about the same time he developed pseudo gout and was in a rehab/nursing place for the month os December. He had also developed a very bad blood infection and had to take IVs daily. I have been trying to do all I can to take up the slack. He doesn't walk much, we did have a garden and he is slowly gaining strength. We both had lost 50 pounds in the move and subsequent yard work and stuff and he lost 30 more when he was sick. People don't recognize him. Now he is into atrial fibrillation. We are working on that with medication. I think of you often and wonder how you are doing. Good to hear from you.
Jean Rotter

Have asked Jigger numerous times but no response. Understand he is still in LV and remarried. They had 5 children but any I search on FB NEVER mention the wife/mother.
Rotter Family in Canada

My great grandmother Irena Rotter came to the US in 1921 alone, when she was just 15,from either the village of Rakos or Nandraz in what is now Slovakia. I believe her mother's name was Sabina and father's name was John. Though Irena ultimately resided in WV(USA) her sisters settled
in Canada several years later.Their descendants are most likely still there. If this sounds familiar to anyone please write back.
Jean, Picking up on the thread from last year you exchanged with my father, John Rohter, I have recently uncovered some information about our Rotter connections. In 1895 my great-great grandfather (who we've known as Frederick Hans Rohter) was living under the name Frederick Hans Rotter in London, though according to the Times of London, he also went by Frederick Hans Rother. What we know:

1. He was born in Magdeburg around 1860
2. He went by Rotter, Rother, and Rohter
3. He traveled extensively from 1895-1906 between the US, UK, and Europe
4. He used several first names including "Herman F," "Conrad H," "L.H.," "Fred," and "Hans"
5. He was a merchant
6. He was married to Charlotte Anna Plessner in 1888
7. He had a son, FH2 in London in 1891
8. He and his family settled in the US around 1895

If any of this rings a bell, I'd love your input.

Best,

Chris

new page on the Rotter Y_DNA

I just upgraded my web site at www.rader.org to include a new page on the Rader Y_DNA results. FTDNA has a sale for the month of July 2009 www.familytreedna.com is having a sale on the 37/67 marker tests.
I hope you will encourage your Rader male relatives to join in the fun. If you meet an unknown Rader have them take the test also as we can now at least group the families with Y-DNA
While you visit my web site check out the new page at http://www.rader.org/dna/cladogram.htm
Call me if you would like more information !

have a nice day
Rader group leader - Jim Rader 916-366-6833

I do not know where our family originated. I understand that Gernot Rotter also had a Frederick Hans. I believe that the name was changed to allow easier pronounciation, but when I do not know. My Great Grandfather, Frederick Hans, seems to have disappeared without a trace, altho my son found mention of his wife, Charlotte and son, Frederick Hans in NY by themselves. Thanks for the help.

I will write Gernot today and get an update. Where did your family come from or do you know? Has it always been spelled Rohter? Or was that to help with the pronunciation? We had one branch that changed the spelling to Roeter.

We don't have an Adolph Rotter in our branch. Our branch did come to Oregon from Nebraska. The father in that family was Francis Xavier and he settled in Boring, Oregon (not funny) and thence to Oregon City, Oregon. My husband is his grandson, Arthur David Rotter. who was born in Oregon City. Francis X had the following children, first 3 born in Nebraska:
Francis (Frank), Clara Marie, Alphonse (Al), Richard, Peter (Art's Dad), Paul Robert, Susan Maria, and Louise Agnes. We have all the Nebraska Rotters who descended from the immigrant: Benedict Rotter, who died in the Paul, Nebraska area in 1883.
We know of the the Washington Rotters, but never did find a connection, as the ones we talked to didn't have any records that connected. If we can be of any help please ask
Jean Rotter

My grandfather came out of Lagow , Poland, probably in the 1910's. The rest of the Polish Rotters came over in the early 20's along with most of the Lagowers who settled in Chicago, Pittsburgh, Canada and Panama.
