Thank you for that, I appreciate it. I still have some queries regarding William Rowett; I have a marriage cert for William with wife Frances Martyn, married in Devon in 1854 and their son is Joseph born 1862 in Menheniot but registered in Liskeard, he was my mother in law's grandfather. There are so many William Rowett's and mine goes missing off one of the censuses I think maybe he was a mariner but I have hit a brick wall. If you have any info on him I would be so grateful. I have been taking a rest recently from my research as my husband has been very ill this past year so I have been unable to concentrate on it. Thank you so much for getting in touch.
Yours etc; Diane Lambley in Melbourne, Australia

Hi there,

My great x5 grandparents were also John Rowett and Harriet Bishop. They married on 14th January 1815 in St. Austell. They had 10 children and their daugher Eliza Rowett (1832-1889) was my gx4 grandmother, she married William Wills and came to Camborne in Cornwall.
They had 6 sons, eldest was William Henry Wills (1854-1893) who married Elizabeth Jane Mitchell. Their eldest child was Bessie Wills (1876-1950) - my grandpa's grandmother.

I have attached a photo of her - she'd be John and Harriet's great granddaughter.

I have had no luck in searching for Harriet in Jersey, but all the census records apart from 1841 say she was from there.

It could be that she was just born there, and her parents were Cornish, but I hope they were originally from there. Someone said online that she was the daughter of a James and Eleanor Bishop, but I am not sure how accurate this is.

Hope this helps!
Tom Cory
London, UK

Hi Phil,
Edward Rowett (Rowitt) is my 4x Great Grandfather. I have been trying to find more information about him. I have found that he re-married while in Hobart. He married Ann Bostock. I can't find any other information after his marriage to Ann. I have tried searching the census and death records but got to a dead end. If you could help with any information about him that would be appricated.

It was his son also Edward Rowitt that went out to Australia, while he was there. Him and his family came back to the Uk in 1874.
you can e-mail me at t.henderson2608@hotmail.com
Any help would be appreciated Thank you
Tracey

I am searching for any information on Frank Samuel Rowett born in Notting Hill London in 1898. His parents were Frank John Rowett and Sophia George.
He married Elsie M Wileman in Ashby de la Zouch, Leicestershire in 1923 and they had two children. He returned to London and I can find no records of him from then. He is my mother in law's father who she never met and she would like to know if he ever remarried and if she has any relatives still living from him.

Hi Stephen
Interesting to see how the Rowetts moved around. There used to be large numbers of them in St Austell and some moved to Camborne, Redruth, Mevagissey, Polperro and Looe (my ancestors), but I did not know of any moving to Newquay. If your grandfather was born in Whitby about 1879, then I can send you a Rowett family tree (either as a .doc file or a gedcom file to load into a family tree program)which shows your Rowett ancestry back to the 15th century and I would be your 12th cousin once removed. There are also Rowett descendants in America, Australia and New Zealand.
Jennie Widdowson

Yes Phil,

I am Stephen Rowett - Son of George Alfred Rowett, son of Alfred Rowett - one of many brothers & sisters of farming stock from Thimbleby in Lincolnshire. My Grand Dad & his
brothers left the farming life in Lincolnshire to work in the coal mines & coking plants of South Yorks. He settled in Dinnington, Nr Sheffield with brothers in near by Woodsettes.

I was amazed back in the 1980's by the number of Rowett's on the War Memorial in Newquay & Listed in the telphone book.

I am back in Cornwall now and have found Rowett Pirate links in Polpero - a small book has been written on this subject - I hope to find a copy.

I will keep you posted.

Regards

Steve Rowett
srowett@talktalk.net
Hello Delphine:
My husband is the grandson of Joseph Rowett through his youngest child Edith born in Shildon, Co Durham (a Railway pioneering town). Her mother was Mary Hebdon - I have her birth certificate and also Joseph & Mary's marriage certificate and read details in the family bible when I was over there last year and visited my brother in law who possesses the bible. I also have a copy of Joseph's birth certificate and was aware of William and Frances's birthplaces but I cannot get further back. I now see that William's parent's were John and Harriet; have you concrete proof of this? I don't like to add things until I am certain as I am sure you will appreciate. Living in Australia makes things very difficult. I photographed lots of places in Cornwall when I visited last year and could email you some if you can confirm your email address is still the same (at virgin etc).
Sincerely, Diane Lambley.

Hello! My name is Diane and I got your message for Delphine! I put my query on 18 months ago and all of a sudden I am getting replies as I was not prompted earlier! Anyway I am related via my husband who is the son of William and France's grand daughter through Joseph. I have been doing most of my work through Genesreunited with some success. Are you able to go further back than William and Frances? I would like to get back to the 1700's - is Richard Rowett and direct ancestor? Please refer to my other replies of this date to Delphine and Jizzy.
Hope to hear from you again.
Cheers, Diane.

Sorry for not replying before now but I have only just receoved a prompt re this thread. I do not have a Frances Emily listed but the 7th child is down on a census as Etty so I presume that was a typo and should have been Emily. My husband's grandfather was Joseph born in 1862. If you know the correct parentage of William I would be grateful as I keep getting stuck. I have Frances's father as John Martyn. I was in Cornwall last year and found gravestone and Richard Rowett a master seaman with a placque in the church itself in Talland. Is he a direct ancestor?
Cheers, Diane.

You must think me ignorant for not replying but I have just received a prompt from Ancestry re my query after all this time! Yes my husband's mother was the daughter of their son Joseph born in 1862 and wife Mary Hebdon she was called Edith Maude and was born in Shildon in 1907. The family had been in Skelton prior to living in Shildon. My husband's brother has the family bible that was started with Joseph!
Cheers, Diane Lambley.

Hi Jill. Thanku for your email it is nice to hear from you again. I thought I had heard from you before but wasnt sure. And yes it does match, but for the life of me I couldnt find out when they were married. They moved to Yorkshire and lived in Skelton Also g/granddad william married again after G/gran died He married Eliza Suggett in 1890. I am unable to find where he moved to after that date as he's not on the 1901 census. Hope to hear from you soon
Delphine
