I do not know about this couple, but I did find it of interest. My great grandparents had the same last name combination. Harry Rowley married Cassie Faye Hart. They were married in the 1910's and lived in western Kentucky. I am sorry if this is of no use, but I thought you would enjoy the fact that there was someone else out there with the same set of parents/grandparents, etc. out there. :)

Hi Sheryl,

The picture you have posted is hanging on the wall of my home! That is my grandmother, Alice Mineola Rowley Miley and my great-grandparents, James Norfleet Rowley and Pearlie Perkins Rowley. My parents still own the home in Rapides Parish where "Slim" and "Pear-a-lee" lived. My mother grew up next door and they still own that home as well. We don't know much about James Norfleet Rowley, but I can tell you from having DNA tested that Pear-a-lee was not a Redbone! (Very disappointing news to several of my cousins - LOL) Any information that you could share about James would be greatly appreciated. Please feel free to contact me for more information about Pearlie Perkins Rowley. My mother, Sybil Miley Stokes, was very close to her grandmother, Pearlie and I have many of her artifacts.

Sincerely,

Lisa Stokes McBride, Ph.D.

Looking for retired or deceased Navy commander Allyn Rowley who would be between 90-100 today in 2012. He did serve for at least 20 years. This man is remembered by another Navy retired guy who wonders what became of him.

There is an Allyn Rowley buried in Ft Rosecrans Cemetery, San Diego CA, but his gravestone shows Army. He served in WWII which puts him in the correct age bracket.

Re: Searching for illegitimate child of woman called Ms Rowley born between 1918-1928

hello, this maybe a bit of a longshot too, but my father was the illegitimate child of a woman called florence millicent rowley of skegness, lincolnshire. He was born in 1920 to the daughter of a wealthy family and given away to a 'baby farmer' and was raised in Grimsby. A baby farmer is a woman who raises illegitimate children for a sum of money. He assumed this woman was his mother and did not discover the truth until he was in his 20's. He also did not know who his father was and was unable to ever meet his mother, because her father would not allow it. Perhaps there is a connection between your gt grandfather and my grandmother? I do know people from the midlands visited the coast via the railway and Skegness was very popular in the 1920's. If this is relevant and you would like further info I would love to hear from you as I have been trying to research my dad's past for a longtime. please e-mail
dianne1959@live.co.uk

Abijah Rowley of Champion, NY

I am searching for the ancestors of my 3rd great grandfather Abijah Rowley. I believe he was born in 1797 near Watertown NY. I believe he was married to Elipha Hadsell. He was living in Champion (Near Watertown) NY in 1820, with two children under 10, next door to his widowed mother-in-law Elipha Eggleston Hadsell. Later children included Oscar and Byron. Most of what I know is based on the 1820 census and my family bibles. Note—although likely related, I do not believe this is the same Abijah Rowley Rev.War Vet b.1758-d.1850 in Fulton County, IL. That Abijah was married to Elizabeth Culver and descended from Samuel, Samuel and Moses…. Nor is it the Abijah’s of Painted Post, nor Great Valley, NY, though possibly related.

Oliver Rowley (Spencer #1-7.0259/10.006) who had a wife, Rosa McCale, was the son of Thomas and Margaret Jane (Whitlatch) Rowley. See http://www.RowleyResearch.org/Charts/Branch01/BR1-7.0259.htm and search the page for "10.6" or "MC CALE". Oliver born, married, lived, & died in Wood Co. WV, probably Chester. Unfortunately I can't attach a descendency narrative from TMG, but here are the sources:
Ernst Spencer, List of Rowley males descendants of Henry Rowley from generation 8 on. (n.p.: n.pub., n.d.).

Wes Cochran, compiler, Wood County, West Virginia Marriages (1880-1925) (2515 10th Avenue, Parkersburg WV 26101: self published), (giving age at marriage as 25). Hereinafter cited as Wood Co (WV) Marriages.

Wes Cochran, Wood Co (WV) Marriages.

Transcribed Wood County, West Virginia Cemeteries, online Teresa Fordyce [s82c43@citynet.net]..

I assume you are referring to Thomas, husband of Freelove Mills. If you go to http://www.RowleyResearch.org and search the site for 1-7.0259, which is Thomas' Spencer #. Look for Thomas' birth in Granville, Hampden Co., MA. Sorry I don't know who Thomas' mother is.

My sources for Samuel are
Barbour Collection- CT: Rowley, Samuel 3rd s/o Sam'l & Miriam b 21 Jan 1750 Coventry D:103.

Newberry Library, 60 West Walton St., Chicago. The Rowley Family by Frederick Corbett Ward.

MF 4:155.

NYGBR 37:205. Birthdate shown as 20 Jan 1750/51.

George Bingham, ROWLEY GENEALOGY, ms. Samuel ROWLEY III, born 1750 at Coventry, CT. Childhood in Kent, CT, Monterey and Granville, MA. By 11 yrs of age he thus began a wanderlust which he later continued, as a cooper, in various MA towns. He joined the Revolution Army while Loudontown (Loudon, MA) 6 May 1775. He became a corporal, served in Roxbury, Quebeck, Pittsfield and Peakshill. Was sick at Loudon 1882. Later was a commander near Valley Forge and at Providence, Camp Tenith and was garrisoned at West Point. The later part of his service was in East New York state. After his New York army service, Samuel III lived in east New York State where his son Thomas of Loudontown, MA, though not confirmed, seems certain. They are both known to have lived in Loudontown (Loudon); this was the only Rowley family there; they are the proper ages to be father and son; their names are common to both sections of the family; they both had the wanderlust; they both went to the same locality in East New York State at the same time; and father Samuel's brother, Abijah, who was only eleven years older than Tom, went to visit Tom in Gallia Co., OH; Samuel named his son for his cousin: Thomas. This connection between Samuel III and Thomas of Sallia makes Ohio descendants eligible for DAR's, SAR's, American Revolution organizations.
Searching for illegitimate child of woman called Ms Rowley born between 1918-1928

Hi,
This is a long shot but I am trying to trace either the individual concerned or his/her descendents. All the information I have is that a woman named 'Rowley' gave birth to an illegitimate child between 1918-1928. My Gt grandfather, John Henry Leatherland was the father and was ordered by a court to pay maintenance for this child. He lived in the West Midlands and Peterborough area during this period.
Does this ring any bells to anyone? John went on to have 5 children with his wife Maria before dying aged just 28. My grandmother (his youngest daughter) would love to know if she has a half brother or sister (or their descendents)out there.

I am trying to find out Thomas' parents (b. 1770) who married Freelove Mills. I was interested in joining the Mayflower Society however, without documentation that proves that Samuel and Thomas are father and son it is not an option. Do you have the connection information on Freelove Mills back to William Bradford? I think the DNA study is very interesting. I have never looked at one but, I know that a male has to be the donor of the sample. How can you tell that your DNA matches Thomas' DNA? It seems that somebody out there knows this information, surely to goodness there are descendants of Thomas and Freelove who may know the information that all of us are looking for. It would be great if they read the message boards or posted their info on Ancestry.com or some other website.

hi
do you know what kind of work John did at Manor House? also
a relative told me there was a rowley family reunion south of adelaide somewhere about 15 years ago and the organisers made a book with the names of all the decendents. unfortunately i dont have a copy of the book. but if you have a look at this website it has alot of info on the family
http://redpathpittfamily.net/getperson.php?personID=I5377&am...

it states johns mother as mary bead, but i have also seen it as mary read, so not sure which is correct.
i believe johns grandparents are james rowley and amy harris and his great grandparents are robert rowley and martha hill.

hope that helps! :-) and would love to know if you have any info on john and charlottes ancestors

there was some intermarrying of cousins in the family but, when I get to Thomas b. 1770 that's where I get stuck as far as proving my Mayflower connection. I know that I have a least 3 connections but, just wish someone could find out who Thomas' mother was. I found that on the census in OH he put that he was born in Massachusetts. Others say he was born in Kinderhook, NY. I can't find him anywhere in either state. In my previous post I made an error. Thomas' father, Samuel, was supposedly born in 1750.

I wonder if it is even the same Samuel Rowley, b. 1750, who married Eunice Brainerd, and there is only anecdotal proof of Samuel Rowley, b. 1750 as father of Thomas Rowley, b. 1770 (although I think he is)- nobody knows the mother of Thomas Rowley, b. 1770, my brother who is a Rowley did a DNA and was a close match to another Rowley family member from Henry Rowley, so I know Thomas comes from someone in that line, and that goes to the Fullers of the Mayflower. Also, through Freelove Mills, is direct descent to William Bradford of the Mayflower.

I also need information connecting Thomas Rowley and Samuel Rowley. I believe that Samuel was married at least twice. I think he had Thomas by his first wife. If we could only find a birth certificate wouldn't that be nice. I did read somewhere that Samuel left home when he was 11 years old. I found a Samuel Rowley in Redding, CT married to Sarah Comes Jan. 15, 1765. Samuel would have been 15 years old when he was married to her, if this is the same Samuel. I cannot find any information on Sameul and Sarah. Thomas's mother's name is a big mystery. Somebody has to have the answers to these questions.

Samuel Rowley born 1750 m. Eunice Brainerd b. 1775. A lot of people on Ancestry.com have her as the mother of Samuel's son Thomas b. 1770 who was m. Freelove Mills. Eunice Brainerd Rowley could not be the mother of Thomas Rowley b. 1770 because Eunice was born in 1775. I believe that Thomas' father, Samuel b. 1718 was married before he married Eunice. There is a big age difference between Samuel and Eunice (57 years). I need help in finding out who Thomas' mother is in order to prove my Mayflower connection. Samuel's father was Samuel b 1718 and mother, Miriam Shaler b. 1717. Can anyone help solve this mystery??

I am of another Rowley branch. However when researching my family I came across two marriage certificates for children of a Parker Rowley and Mary Rowley.
One is a Nathan Rowley son of Parker and Mary Rowley. He is listed as a teacher living in Manchester, Iowa but born in Dane County Wisconsin. He married a Chrisdena Coorad (hard to read). She was born in Delaware, Iowa. Marriage took place in Fennimore, Grant Co., WI on December 1, 1884.
The other one is a Nathan Rowley son of Parker and Mary Rowley. He is listed as a farmer living in Manchester, Iowa, but born in Dane Co.,WI. He married a Mary Jane Lee.
Here is the kicker. Marriage took place at the same place, same time, same date and everything with Nathan's. Must have been a double wedding ceremony.
Regards, Melissa Hiatt

Re: Floyd Rowley

My grandfather is Floyd Ross Rowley that lived in Reading MN. He was born Sept 23, 1907 and died Aug 10, 1969. I think his mothers name was Anna or Amna.....My mothers family did not know any of her fathers relation, it was always a bad subject to talk about. I know my grandfather grew up in Fulda MN. He had two brothers, Daniel and Ezra and one sister, Violet. (there was talk about an infant daughter that died, but no one knows for sure or where she is buried)I know there is a tombstone in the cemetery in Reading MN with the name Charles Rowley.

Could this be realtion? Any help would be wonderful.....would be nice to crack the family secret about why they never talked about their family someday and maybe learn about the ancestors etc.

Michelle

Joseph born 1882 05 18 may be the one you are seeking.
Father William (blacksmith, b. 1851 01 12)
Mother Julia, who died later.
The second wife Adelaide is seen in census records.

The previous generation may have been Joseph (blacksmith, b 1855)

All the other Joseph possibilities in New Brunswick Canada have been eliminated because they are part of my study of my lineage.

Since you first posted your query, many more resources are online. PDFs of certificates (Records of marriage, birth, death) and census data.
