Carl Bethel Royce registered for the draft in Maryland. In the 1930 Census he was listed in Washington D.C. as Carl B. and wife Bessie. Good luck with your research.

Michael:
Thanks for answering and what's your relationship to this family? Lyman Noble and Elizabeth Royce-Noble were my 5th great grandparents.
If Lucy Baldwin was Elizabeth's mother, this particular Josiah would have been 40 years old when she was born. In those days people had their children fairly young. Could be? I've done lots of research and I have come up with nothing so far. Keep up the search, as I will.
Thanks, P

His father was William Royce b circa 1855 from Woodham Mortimer.

My GG migrated to Sydney, Australia after WW1 and our branch of the Royce family are now located mostly in South-East Queensland and Northern New South Wales.

From what I have so far: Walter's father was William Royce. William Royce was born 1843 in Iowa or Nebraska or possibly Ireland. He married Mary "May" Lees. There was another son Howard. I have more family from Censuses but can't find it now. The family lived in Nebraska and Dubuque, Iowa. They moved to Salt Lake City, Utah sometime before 1920. William died July 31, 1921, he was a veteran of the Civil War. Walter worked at Kennecot Copper Minesin 1917. His wife at the time was Josephine.
Hope to hear from you soon.

My great-grandmother, Alice Marion Royce, was born in Greenfield, MA January 23, 1884. I do know she had a sister, Grace Virginia, b. 1886. I believe she had two brothers, Eugene Charles Royce and Alton Royce. I do not know their parents names because Alice and Grace were put on orphan trains in the late 1800's and were adopted or taken in both in Indiana. Anyone out there that has any info I would greatly appreciate it.
Sorry, it's taken so long to get back to you, I tried to merge my trees together and am still picking up the pieces.
Does the name John Critton mean anything to you?
I was trying to track down your Sarah and her sister Hannah,
I was certain they were some Daniel's daughters. When I ran into Hannah Royce Critton and everything started falling into place. I remembered I had read a query, probably Genealogy.com, about some Royce sisters, one married a Critton, the other married a Slane...still working on details.
Gerry

Gerry, Thank you so much for remembering my original query, and for following up. We (family researchers) should ALL be so thoughtful as you!

I have made a little headway since I first sent in my query. I now have reason to believe that "my" Sarah Royce, the daughter of Daniel Royce (and ??? spouse) was born about 1795 in Hampshire, VA. She married Daniel Slane, who was born about 1791 in Hampshire co, VA; they were married around 1820 in Hampshire co, and within a very few years moved to OH. They had 5 children that I've been able to identify: Lydia Ann who m. #1 William McKinnis and #2 Joseph Taylor; Hannah Maria who m. John Blain; John Royce who m. Hester Ann Langdale (my grgrgrandparents); Daniel F. who m. Aditha Wilson; and Stephen Slane.

As I re-read the response to my query, I am now wondering if the Daniel Slain who m. Mary Rise in 1817 in Hampshire co, VA was the same Daniel Slane who m. Sarah Royce a few years later? Back then many women died in childbirth and the husbands remarried very soon after. A possibility, at any rate.

I'm still seeking information on Sarah's parents. I wonder if your Daniel Royce and my Sarah Royce are related? Do you have any info that would help us along this line of thought?
I'm really curious to find more about Sarah's lineage!

Thanks again for contacting me about this. I do appreciate thoughtfulness.

Carla

Looking to find information on an aunt from our family. Information that we have is she was Charlotte Royce, born about 1926 in Minnesota; probably near Minneapolis. Daughter of Gerry W. Royce (1891-1967)and Miriam Page (1894-1947). Had a half brother, Earl Gerry Royce (1921-1970).
Not ever in contact with these people who died as distance and no contact made it impossible to know them. Now we have access to the latter's photo album. We are finding family information...but nothing further on the half-sister, Charlotte.
Anyone out there know her? Would like to know what happened to her.

Leslie Pierce Royce
Houston, Tx.

Dealous Calvers A. ROYCE

Good day,

I am helping a friend with her genealogy, and we're stuck on one of her grandparents: Dealous Calvers A. ROYCE, born abt 1826 in, I'm guessing, Massachusetts. The first records I find for him are in 1850, and he seems to be a boarder and working as a carpenter in Lee, Massachusetts. He doesn't appear again until 1870, where he is residing in Alabama, New York and is married to "Catherine". Dealous and Catherine have 3 known children: Gilmore, Laura and Mary.

I have information on his descendants, but I do not know who his parents and/or siblings are. I do not have any further information on his spouse, Catherine. I do know that Laura married Henry Daniel TINKHAM from Perry, New York.

Since Dealous Calvers A. ROYCE is such an unusual name, I thought it might catch someone's attention.

Thank you for reading!

Erroneous rumor circulating?!

I believe there is a rumor circulating that John Sims (who married Sarah Baker in the 1500s in England) is John Symes, son of John Symes, Sr. (who married Amy Horner, descended from King Edward III). The latter John (John Symes, Jr.)married an Abigail Arscott. I have seen this ?mix-up on various Internet sites and wondered if anyone could substantiate the truth either way.

Note: John Sims and Sarah Baker reportedly had a daughter, [Elizabeth, Mary, Katherine] Sims who reportedly married Robert Royce.

Thanks!

Karl or Nancy Royce

Am trying to find any descendants of the children of Charles Bellows Royce and Bridget Anastasia Enright. Their children were Karl Royce b. 7 Sep 1905 in Nutley New Jersey (married to Doris) d. 3 Dec 1994 in Remsenburg, New York; and Nancy Royce b. 14 Nov 1908 in Nutley, New Jersey and d. 23 Jan 1987 in Hightstown, New Jersey. I do not know her married name. We are related on the Enright side and have family pictures to share.

I understand that Karl and Nancy are listed in "The Royce Family in America", by Alvin Rhods. If someone has a copy of this book could you look them up and let me know if there is any mention of their children or a married name for Nancy? Thanks so much.

Hiram, Horace and Helen Royce of Cattaraugus, NY, maybe Claremont, NY -- need father

My gg-grandfather was named Hiram Alford Clark. I found out recently that his name was Hiram Royce when he was a child and that he changed it to Clark when he was older. He had a brother named Horace Royce and a sister named Helen Royce. Hiram was born in 1831.

His first guardian was named Barak E. Clark, and when Barak died, his brother James R. Clark became his guardian. All three Royce children lived with Barak and then James. They lived in Burton, NY which was later renamed Allegany, NY. in Cattaraugus County, NY.

Does anyone know who the biological Royce father was of these three Royce children? One theory is that a Royce husband married a Clark wife and that is their relation to the Clark family. Another possibility is that Barak married a widow of a Royce and thus the children were named Royce.

The Royce parents we're looking for may have lived in Claremont, Cheshire, NH around 1800 to 1835.

Its all a mystery and its doubly fascinating to me because all these years I thought we were Clarks going all the way back. Now we may be Royces.

Any hints or help anyone has would be greatly appreciated.
Re: Sarah Royce of WV - Help, please!

Connie, Having read the info you sent, and compared it to what I have, it could well be "my" Daniel Slane's marriage record, although the Mary throws me a little. (All records I've seen show his wife as Sarah Royce.) Although she MIGHT have been named Mary Sarah, and later used just Sarah. ??? The Rise doesn't bother me, as I've seen Royce spelled that way, and "Rice" as well. My Daniel was born in 1791 to James Slane and Margaret Largent, so the age would be about right to be getting married. If so, the Daniel who applied for a tavern license in 1791 would likely have been his grandfather. Now I need to do some more digging! Can you tell me how/where you accessed the records, and if it is possible for me to do the same from here in Kansas? I am most grateful to you for your help, and appreciate any and all who can aid me in my long-distance research! Thanks once again!
Best regards,
Carla

Sarah Royce of WV - Help, please!

Seeking anyone who can help me fill gaps in my Royce family tree. Sarah Royce married Daniel Slane of Hampshire co, (W)VA in early 19th century. They later (mid 1820s, I think) moved to Pike co, OH. Their son, John Royce Slane was my grgrgrandfather. I believe they also had children Lydia A. who married Joseph Taylor, and Daniel F. Slane. I am told that Sarah's father was Daniel Royce, but have no proof, and no knowledge of her mother's name. Any help would be most appreciated! Am willing to exchange info with anyone who is related to this elusive couple. Thank you!
