Hello. My grandmother, Concepcion, is from Yahualica, Jalisco, Mexico and has been living in CA since the 1980's. Her mother's name was San Juana Rubalcava and she was born on Ranch Rubalcava to Emeteria Garcia and Juan Rubalcava. Both were born around 1880. Juan died in 1950, and Emeteria died on February 1, 1965. I am told that they had a store on their rancho. I was also told that Juan Rubalcava had a brother named Agapito (or something close to that)and he was born around 1881. Their father's name was Alejandro Rubalcava. If any of this information matches information that you have, please contact me via this thread. I would love to get in contact with you and see if we can find any more information.

I can help with the Firestone side. J.A. Firestone was Jewell A. Firestone who was born Feb 1882 in Marion Co., IN and died 28 Aug 1917. He is buried at Crown Point Cemetery in Kokomo, IN. Clemencia, his daughter, never knew her father but he knew her mother was pregnant before his death. She married Raymond Dabbs in Texas and lived in Castroville, not far from San Antonio. They had several children. After Raymond's death in 1990 she married Robert Hernandez who died in 2009. She is currently still living.

Jewell Firestone was the son of Purtice Whitman Firestone and Edna Jane Tattersall. I have more on the Firestones if you are interested.

My name is David Medford. I was told by my mother that Medford was not my father. She said Rudy Rubalcava was. I'm was born and raised in L.A. County. My mother said rudy went back to his wife and 5 children he was separated from. He was a mechanic in Los Angeles in the early 60's. He would be approximately 67-70 years old now. I was born 1963. I'm not even sure of the spelling of the surname. I'm not looking for any trouble for my father's family just curious of my heritage. My mother said he was Basque. If anyone could be a relative please contact me at 520 808-6612. Please I must insist if you could be a relative do not stir up any trouble for my father for that is not my intentions.

I have traced my ancestors back to my great, great, great grandfather Feliz Rubalcaba, born in Yahualica around 1825. My great, great grandfather is Claudio Rubalcava (b:1853). My great grandfather was Salvador Rubalcava (b:1876) in Yahualica. He moved to Cananea, Senora with his wife (Felicitas Monteon) in in the ealy 1900s to work in the mines. There, he had my grandmother (Josephine Rubalcava b:1906). The family moved to Douglas Arizona in 1913 and then moved to Oakland, California in 1921 where they settled for good. They landed up having 9 children in all. I also know that my great grandfather (Salvador) also had a brother who settled in Merced, California and had a car dealership. Unfortunately we have lost any traces of that side of the family. Hope this info may link us.

I'm curious about the very special story concerning my family. My email is rubalcavajr@aol.com My dad's name is Daniel Rubalcava. His dad is Isidro Rubalcava and mom is Micaela Rubalcava. My entire family has a different spelling for Rubalcava.

That is very interesting. My grandparents are also from that area (Yahualica). We just came back from the ranch where their house still stands just outside of Yahualica called La Estancia. My dad went to school in Yahualica (Benito Juarez). My grandparents are Isidro and Micaela Rubalcava. We live and work in the Anaheim area of So Cal.

My father and his sibling are from Yahualica, Jalisco, Mexico as well and all have been here in CA since the late 1960's. For what it's worth my grandfather's name is Juan Rubalcava (or Ruvalcaba).
Also I would like to mention my family descends from Santander (Cantabria) and as it's been mention through our folk-tails, many Spaniards were/are of Arab (Moors) descent from North Africa; so not only are we Mexican by way of Spain we "may be" Arabic. Which I tend to agree. Because I'm forever being told I look Arabic when I proudly state I' am Latina; nevertheless I allow people to believe I'm not Mexican- only to prove their ignorance! lol
Mickie,

Hi. Thanks for your reply. I'm sorry, but I'm not aware of any of our Ruvalcabas being from Jalisco. Our originated in Aguascalientes. Then they moved to Nuevo Leon, Coahuila, and finally to Texas. However, if I find any relation to any Jalisciences, I'll be sure to get in touch. Thanks again.

Best regards,

Sam Bishop

I come from the family Rubalcava of which migrated from Yahualica, Jalisco, Mexico to California in the early 1900s. Seeing that Teocaltiche is within the state of Jalisco, I thought your information could be a link to my families past. Would love to discuss.

About "Sabala"

My father's name is Juan Foruria Arrizabalaga. He is Basque (not Spanish) and was born in Ereno, Vizcaya, Spain (about a mile and a half from Guernica).

My father's familiy (some of them) changed their name (when they arrived in the America), from "Arrizabalaga" to "Zabala", and then to "Sabala".

From "Arrizabalaga", remove the first four letters, "Arri" and the last two letters, "ga". You are left with "zabala".

Perhaps your ancestor(s) did the same.
