Hello, I'm ashamed I haven't kept up withthis as I should have and it has been several years since I last responded, however I find it interesting that your grandfather John Cagney Rucker had the same initials as one of my uncles, JC and yes Elberton, GA is in Elbert Co., GA. I believe we are related.

Edward jr was my grandfather and i would be happy to supply his wedding photo to Nettie Bates circa 1919. Your grandmother Inez was my grandfather Edwards Sister. In 1910 Inez was 7 & my grandfather Edward was 15. Feel free to contact me at scamula46@yahoo.com. Regards, Pam:)

Thank you!! I was afraid that this would be the case; but, you have to try all avenues! I am wondering if there was a marriage license that would have his REAL name, but some people went by their nicknames so much that their real names got lost....even to the person.

Don't waste your gas. I have checked the Pike County marriage records as well as the Floyd County records. There are some Ruckers but none that could be Frenchy. I hope to check the Letcher and Perry County records soon. I think I will check Knott County if those don't turn up any leads. I live in Pike County near the Letcher and Floyd borders. An aunt who was knowledgeable about our family history never knew Frenchy's real name. She passed away several years ago and I'm afraid a lot of valuable information went with her. I have some old, old documents but can find Frenchy listed only by his nickname. When I can get to the other counties I will post my findings, good or bad.

I am currently writing a book about Lourana Crawford Finney, my ancestor. Her son, William Riley Finney, is the one married to Annie Rucker in Denton CO., TX. They had three sons and then she died. He later married my great-great grandmother, Clara A. Keese. They raised several children as well as his previous three sons. Will and Clara are buried in Medina, TX. We still have links to some of the descendants from his first marriage. I live not very far from Denton and have visited the very old Rucker cemetery which is now surrounded by a housing community. Minnie, contact me if you want to discuss this. I go WAY back into the Finney and Crawford's ancestry and will be willing to share info..

You posted this in 2005, have you made any progress? Loughton was born to Orah Rucker and Inita Boyd Rucker in 1908 in Nevada. Though I don't recognize the name Hazel, he had quite a few wives. He died in Sacramento in 1983. Sometimes you will find him in Ohio as well.
My great aunt was Inita Boyd Rucker Eldridge Boyd. I knew her pretty well since they lived near by, though I was pretty young when she died in 1973. Her Mom was the first or second gringo baby born in Virginia City NV. She was gone before my time.
I would be happy to share info with you.
I am related to Peter Rucker too. Sad about the slaves. There seemed to have been a bond though for many. Edmund Rucker I believe it was fought to rid the act of slavery. If you go further back I believe we were given 3 Crests earned-an honor, and the family began in Germany, then traveled to England, later to the US.The Batteau (spelling?) Boat was designed by the Rucker brothers and later challenged by others legally. Thomas Jefferson a friend and neighbor to the brothers testified that it was the brothers that made the boat and it was then patented. There is a festival every year to celebrate the boat and it's history.

I really don't know the answer to that question; however, even if they didn't stand in front of a preacher, there were plenty of common law marriages in that day and age. Eventually, when the preacher made his circuit,I am sure there were plenty of people who said their vows...even after there were children. Again, though, I don't know if they were formally married or if it might have been a common law marriage.

I was operating under the impression that "Frenchy" might have been a nickname from a country of orgin. I know there were some Ruckers in Virginia, close to the Kentucky line, but cannot seem to get them over the line. I did read a history of the Rucker family that was on Ancestry, and many references are made to this family member/that family member moving to Kentucky, Tennessee, etc...but, no names are given and just the main trunk is written about in the book. I would love to find a name, not a nickname, for the Rucker who married Clarrisa, but, I have a feeling that is going to be a brick wall for a while, yet. I am hoping to get to Pike County in the next few months...depending on fuel prices, and see what I can do at the courthouse.

Yes she did recant the point of who Peter's wife was. I actually was responding to armibraulio's post in regards to her book on who the author was, the year it was published and what the book said in regards to what the poster was referring too. I also pointed out that there were no references or documentation noted that Elizabeth Fielding was actually his wife as given in her book. Sorry I didn't think to put in the post that she did later recant that information. And was also trying to point out that Elizabeth Terrill was the wife of a descendent of the Early Peter Rucker, but not this particular Peter Rucker. I appreciate you clarifying for me. Thank-you.

I am the grandson of Henry Wayde Rucker Jr. I grew up hearing stories of the Ruckers coming from Kentucky. I've also been told that the name had originally been Ruckert. Not sure on that one. But my Grandads dad was Hery Wayde Rucker. A dentist in Sanford Florida. We even have found an old will from one of the Kentucky Ruckers. Its pretty interesting. I'll have to get with my mom on the name. But I do remember reading that he left his mules and slaves to his kids. And I know Sarah Rucker is a family name. Just thought I'd mention some Ruckers came down to Florida. And there are many black Ruckers from the slaves taking the name of their owners.

This may be a long shot but I find a Matthew Pate that married a Reade, Their were several of the Reade girls that married into the Rucker family. Matthew Pate married Anne Reade, she was the daughter of Thomas Reade and Lucy Gwynn. Anne was born around 1701 to 1707 in Virginia.
Benjamine Rucker (John,Peter)born about 1730. He had sons James b. 1758 who married Nancy Ann Reade, Thomas who married Sallie Reade, Bennett b. 1770 who married Johanna Reade and Gideon b.1777 married Joycey Reade. They were all daughters of William and Johanna Reade of Bedford Co. Virginia. There are some of these same Reade family that married into a Johns family that migrated to Texas from Tennessee. All of them migrated from Amherst co. VA to Rutherford Co. Tenn. I don't find any other Pate in my resources involving the Pate family but maybe it could be a lead for you to be able to find links to your Sarah Pate/John Rucker. I hope that you have some good results from your search.

I am a great grand daughter of John Harmon Rucker born in AR in 1858. His parents are listed in census as John Rucker (b abt 1812 VA) and Sarah (b abt 1816 AL), although other locations also mentioned are S Carolina and Tennessee. John Harmon Rucker's death certificate lists Sarahs maiden name as Pate. The family (John, Sarah and children) was in Tennessee in the 1830s, in 1850 census in AR, then Parker County TX until 1880 census. I can't find John and Sarah before 1850 or after 1880. Trying to find more info about John and Sarah, and their parents.

The Original book was written by Edythe Johns Rucker Whitley. It was copyrighted in 1927. In the book that I have, which is a copy, Ms. Whitley does indeed name Peter's wife as Elizabeth Fielding but she does not show any proof of that in the book. Peter himself states his wife is Elizabeth but does not give her maiden name in his will. Elizabeth Terrill was the wife of Peter Rucker, son of John Rucker.

my name is Joseph Rucker. i worked in the special ce ollections of the Paducah,Ky library.i found a book called RUCKER AND CONNECTIONS. written in 1924 by EDYTH Rucker wythe or white. i cant recall. this book does explain a lot of the rucker family orgin. we all need to try and find this book, it answers many questions and poses many others. Elizabeth was Peters wife for sure. she was described as an aristocrat, tall and lean with an aquline nose and slender neck. A TRUE lady. the last name i cant recall, that was 30 years ago, but the book tells all.

So as of late i did research on the von Ruecker, and found lots of interesting things, from john Rucker 1092 and on, to a Daniel von Ruecker, which is where Our Family tree starts. We always figured there were Rueckers that went to America, and now i think i found the Jackpot. Here is a link to our tree, The German side, and some history of the von Ruecker. http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/v/o/n/Michael-B-V...

emails welcomed.
