Re: Rudds of Western Kentucky fron Bryant Rudd

I believe Bryant RUDD had another wife. Martha Fagan Ezell was the widow of William P (?Pendleton) EZELL. I found in 1840's KY tax lists where Bryant Rudd was taxed for heirs of Pendleton Ezell. Martha was married to a Mr. Rudd and this Mr. Rudd was deceased prior to 1850. Marriage license appers to be lost. Martha had one Rudd daughter born about 1845. Three EZELL daughters b. bet1832-38.
Census: 1850-KY,Marshall Co.
Martha Rudd 41/NC
Elizabeth Ezel 15/KY (m. Jeremiah R. Sutton)
Sally H Ezel 12/MS (m. Geo A Creason)
Martha Rudd 5/KY
Thomas T Ogden 24/KY
Mary J. Ogden 18/KY (nee Ezell)
Thomas W Ogden 1/KY

Martha Rudd b.@1845 in KY is in 1860 Van Buren, AR census with her sister Elizabeth Ezell Sutton. What happened to Martha Sr after 1850 is unknown. Martha Jr. unable to locate after 1860.

Bonita,
Not sure I can be of any help. I'm actually trying to make a connection to Ole. I have a GGFather, Gust Rudd, who with several brothers (Ole, Nick, Olaf), came from Norway in the 1800's. Olaf and Ole were listed as blacksmiths in Tarrant County (Fort Worth in the 1902 Business Directory. I will keep you informed if I turn up anything with a connection to Andrew or his family.
Best of Luck!

jay@themerretts.org

Well, it as been a long and torturous search, but I found Zeruah's parents for you!
http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi
page=pv&GRid=37244553&PIpi=17830683

Go there and then you can follow the family backwards on Ancestry.com.

Now, my daughter sent me the WSUMC history and I have looked at all the photos of women. Nowhere among those 300 (+/-) pages, do I see Zeruah!! The book is not indexed, so it is not easy to acertain who is listed among its people at a glance! But I will try to read the book and see if anything turns up.

Hope this helps a bit, anyway!
My grandmother was sort of the "Queen of the Church Kitchen" and didn't really hang with those who were not involved with the running of that kitchen. She had many friends but rarely went out for the day with any of them and by the time I knew Zeruah, Zeruah was pretty much confined to her home. I do not remember ever being in that home because we would normally see her sitting on her front porch watching the traffic pass by.

I am confident that there are no photos in my collection of Zeruah. But I have asked a friend to review the WSUMC history book to see if there is any mention of her or photos of her in that book. From my "vantage point" here in Cancun, that is the best I can do.

I understand your need for details and am very sorry that I cannot offer more! Sad to say, there is no one left from their generation to discuss this with and my generation was not all that interested in Senior Citizens. So....I will continue to pick my own brain as to who you might contact for more information.
Her personality?

What would her and your grandmother do, just sit and talk?

Sorry for the detail-oriented questions, it's just that I can't really ask many other people about this stuff.

Are you SURE your grandmother didn't have a picture of her from a visit perhaps? if you have some of your grandmother's photo,s please browse through again.
I met Zeruah, while I was staying with my grandmother. Taylor died when I was four years old, so if I met him, I don't remember it! I think I remember Zeruah because her name was strange and my grandmother obviously liked her and she lived in that cute little house.

I contacted two of them I think.

Feel free to email me if you want to share memories of Taylor and/or Zeruah.
amoore@nnpstv.com

Find-a-Grave turned out to be a huge disappointment! Not sure for whom your message was intended, but I am related to the first Taylor Rudd through his father's (Isaac W. Rudd) sister, Marion W. Rudd.

I think perhaps the most important tidbit of information to be gleaned from the early Rudds is the fact that Marion had red hair and that gene certainly travelled down through the generations of my family. My grandmother and her two sisters each had red hair, as did her father, James Frances Pollard. It wasn't "fire-engine red" but a subtle red and those three ladies did not turn grey. Yes, the red seemed to fade with time, but grey hair was not an issue.

As for photos, I have one of Marion W. RUDD Pollard, but none of the various Taylor Rudds. It is interesting to note that Taylor and Zerurah lived right around the corner, at 125 South Fairfax Street, from 200 Duke Street where Marion and her husband, John Henry Pollard, raised their family!

Anson Rudd obit 1908

The following obit appeared in the Lafayette, CO newspaper on Jan 10, 1908:
“Death of Anson Rudd
Anson Rudd, father of Anson S. Rudd, editor of the Louisville World, was buried on Monday last in the Louisville cemetery, under the impressive ceremony of the Masonic fraternity, of which order he had been an honored member since 1855.
Mr. Rudd was born in Pennsylvania in 1819, and at an early age engaged in the newspaper business in Columbus, Ohio, a profession he had followed at various times during his entire life.
He was a much traveled man, especially in the west and southwest, and came to Denver in 1860 with an ox team. He made his home in Canon City, having laid out Fremont County; and he was elected the first lieutenant governor the state ever had. He held a number of elective and appointive offices, having at various times been marshal, sheriff, county commissioner, clerk of the court, and postmaster. He was also the first warden of the state penitentiary.
Mr. Rudd was a soldier of the Mexican war, and after that event engaged in the mining business in California. He married Harriet Spencer, a descendant of the old Puritans, and his son Anson S., who alone survives him, was the first white child born in the Arkansas valley.
Mr. Rudd’s death was due to shock, induced by a broken leg, the result of a fall from which his advanced age, 89, prevented his recovery. The sympathy of this community goes out to his devoted son in his bereavement.”

Submitter not related
I just found what I think is the answer! There were two Taylor Rudds. The first one married Zerurah WOOLARD. Their son, Taylor Rudd married Lottie (NOT Hattie) WALTON. She was born in 1908 and died in 1979 as best as I can find. She is buried in Mount Comfort Cemetery, Fairfaix County, Virginia. Check Find-a-grave to see if there is more information about either of them!

I hope you don't mind me butting into your conversations but my great grandmother was Margaret J. Copeland Pittman. She died in a car/train accident with her 17 year old son. Anyway I've been trying to find the Indian that Grandma Minnie kept saying was in our family. She said we were part Blackfoot. Am I wrong in thinking it's Charlotte, Laura or Mary Rudd. In one census it list them as mulatto. Maybe the census taker couldn't tell the differance and depending on who he was asking, maybe a neighbor or child. If you have any thoughts on this I would really appreciate it. Sherri.

Do you mean Signe Svalejorg? I do not know who this person is, all is written in swedish/norwegion.. I can type the rest of what the words said, but the address said Barn, Svigerbarn, barn barn
og barns barns barn,
tone island
USA

Any familiar with Hjertelig Takk? Mr. Ambrose was a brother of mrs c.m. island of kalispell and came here to make his home a year ago.
So nice to hear from one of their descendants! Okay, here is what I have and the sources. Please tell me if you have different information.

Ole Ambrosen Kaasa(born 1830/31 in Hjerdal, Telemark, Norway, source is 1865 Norway census) married Gunnild Gundersdatter (born 1837-1840 in Hitterdal, Telemarken, Norway, source is 1865 Norway census) and had children: Ambros, Gunder, Thore/Tone (this is a female, but occasionally I've seen her listed as Thore) and Margit. In the 1865 census, the kids last names are Olsen or Olsdatter.

The 1900 Norway census has mother listed as Gunhild Gundersdatter with her two sons: Gunder Olsen Kaasa and Ole Olsen Kaasa.

Gunhild is listed in the Sauland book with a last name of Gunnarsdatter and had 10 kids, none of them were Gunda. Her last one was born 19 Nov 1879, her name was Ola.

Per oral history, Gunda, born 1890 (what date do you havde as her birth?) was a stepdaughter to either Ole Ambrose or Gunhild Gundersdatter. I've always wondered if she was actually an illegitimate daughter of Margit or Tones.

Father Ole died young per oral history, he was chopping wood and had a stroke. He had to have died soon after 1879, so it makes more sense that Gunda is actually their granddaughter.

Tone lived in Montana and Margit, my ancestor lived in Moorhead, Mn.

I hope I've made some sense, it's late and I may be rambling. My email is robinmatos@hotmail.com. Let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks, Robin
You posted back in 2004. Hope you already received the info. If not, this website on Genealogy.com Family Tree Maker Outline gives Burlingham Rudd's descendents:
http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/w/o/o/David-Simpe...

A number of years ago, Walter Rudd, with the help of several others, gathered all this information, but I can no longer find his original website. This website contains the same information. You will have to keep hitting "next page" to get through all the material.
