Richard,
Hi, Richard Rue your great Uncle is my grandfather. Married to Ruth Bowlin Rue. Chantel was my cousin. Chantel got the story of the soldier raping the sister from me who was told by Aunt Louise, as I always called her (she was actually my great aunt - John and Richard's sister). The only reason Meehan was spelled that way was because Aunt Louise wasn't sure of the spelling when she was telling me the story, and the way she pronounced the name was the way I spelled it. I have since seen the spelling Mahan and believe you are correct. I thought I would also let you know that Chantel is gone (I can explain if you'll email me at nannies52ford@yahoo.com) I would like to get more information on Molly Mahan. Aunt Louise also said that Molly had 2 sisters and that they were raised in an orphanage in Ohio because their mother was burned bad and died. And that their father went back to Ireland after the incedent leaving the girls. Do you have anything on that? I haven't been able to varify any of that info at all. Would really like to talk with you more, email me.
Marilyn

I'm still around! This is what I have my grandfather Richard Rue m. Ruth Bowlin (yes Richard was in prison, I haven't had a change to research that yet); Richard's parents John and Emma, John's parents Richard and Milly, Richard's parents Joseph and Amerlia, Joseph's father John.
This is where it all breaks down, who was John and who were his parents. Aunt Louise told me about Richard Rue m. to Elizabeth Railsback Holeman, that he was an indian fighter and that he didn't marry until later (later for those days) and that Mary (Polly) Rue was their first child (b. 1785), anyway that this was a great, great (or sonething like that) grandfather (or relative). I can't find the connection. But she talked like he was related. Also, she mentioned an Uncle Andy, who was that?

On the back of a Visiting Card picture of my great great grandfather, John M. Rue, (who served in the Civil War) the name "Lille Rue" is written. The picture was returned to my family by a nice lady who had found the picture at a flea market in Arkansas. John M. Rue (b. 1840) lived in Illinois and Iowa along with some of my other relatives. Do you have any information regarding Lillie Maria Rue's parents or brothers or sisters? I am trying to determine the relationship of Lillie to John M. Rue and why the name "Lillie Rue" was written on the back. Is there another Lillie Rue? Going further back... my part of the Rue family originated in Monmouth County, Manalapan, NJ from what I can tell and moved west and then north. The only other "Lillie" in the family that I am aware of would have been Lillie Mitchell Kennedy who was 86 years old back in 1974 (based on copies of letters she wrote to family members.)

Hi Roger....My husband descends from Ole G. Rue, brother of Kari/Carrie Gunderson Rue (Kaas). Since I sent this post recently, I found a SUPERB Rue family tree that has photos of Gunder and wife Bergit/Betsy, and also includes an obituary of Gunder (b.1820/Telemark NOR), which is very informative. It proved completely our relationship with Gunder and his wife, my husband's great-great grandparents........the obituary mentions by name, their son, (Ole G. Rue), and location (Streeter ND) my husband's great-grandfather. It is a public family tree on Ancestry.com and has 100's of photos attached with it. Superb research as far as I can see. I'm sure you will be able to find it easily by searching for Gunder and Bergit Gunderson Rue b. 1820 +/-.

I will contact you off list as well; however, I hate it when communication is done offline so other researchers never know the answers to questions.....so I wanted to respond online first.

:)
Jeanne

I am Roger D. Daas and am a great great grandson of Gunder Rue. Mr. Rue lived in lyon and Lincoln County, Minnesota. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Mineota, MN. He is buried at Faith Lutheran Cematary, Lyon Co., MN. His daughter, Kari, Married my great grandfather, Halvor Olson Kaasa. They two resided in the Minneota area and are buried at Faith Lutheran Cemetary.
I do not know much more about Gunder,ie: other chidren he may have had, when he came to this country and from where in Norway. I suspect that he came over with Halvor in the 1870s but cannot confirm that.
The church records in Minneota refer to him on at least one occasion as "Gunder Gunderson".

Hope this helps and I,d be pleased to receive any info/comments that you might have.
My Email address is : deanyyboyy@aol.com
Thanks, Roger

Hi........I am interested in the Rue surname from Lyon County.....in particular Ole G. Rue (b. est 1854 in Norway, probably Telemark area), who is my husband's great-grandfather. I am doing a family history and have some info on him, but I think he was living/related to those other Rues in Island Park in the 1880 and 1885 US and Minnesota censuses.

I'd appreciate exchanging info with you.

Jeanne in Moorhead MN

Hello,
I am a relative of your husbands. My grandfather was George L. Burns May De Jarnett's brother! My mother is Gloria Burns Clark the middle daughter of George and Alice Burns. I am the youngest daughter of Dr. Ed and Gloria Clark.
Do you have the information on when Charlotte married Frank La Rue and where?

I am also looking to have copies made of all of the old pictures of the family. In our family they have disappeared. I am assuming Uncle Gabby would have them from his mother of the Burns family.

I found May Ann Bobb who was the daughter of Robert Emmet Burns our great grandfather's (Alba Sylvester) youngest brother. She is still living in North Dakota. She sent me some photocopies of pictures of the family.

Would love to keep in touch!

My husband's family is from the Burns line and I found out Charlotte Burns was married to Frank Rue by a newspaper clipping, so I went searching. My husband is related through Alba Sylvester Burns, Charlotte's brother. I'd love to hear more about Charlotte and offer you information on Sylvester.
Thanks
Lori

I have been to the Rue-Bispham Cemetery several times. Unfortunately, a new home construction (destruction) company on the Durham Road where the cemetery was, trashed the place and THEN put up a fence around. By then the graves were dug up, destroyed and they put the bodies, who knows where? If I had had the money I would have brought action against them. The information you've all been talking about is accurate according to the graves I saw there. Surnames: Rue, Bispham, Everitt, Hellings.

Hey, I'm still here! My name is Marilyn, my mom is Wanda Rue Begliutti, her mother was Ruth Rue who married Richard Rue, Grace's brother. I got my info from my grant-aunt Loiuse which is Grace's sister. Aunt Loiuse is still alive, she's not been doing well lately, she will be 92 this July. Aunt Louise never told me how to spell Molly's name, she was telling me these stories and I was writing it down as fast as I could, so Mahan is probably correct because I haven't been able to find anything on Molly. She also used the word "Rape" when she was telling me about Mary's incident.
I would love to hear from you and exchange information! email me at 52ford@bellsouth.net

I hope that you are still on here. My name is Richard Ryan Rue, son of Richard Dennis Rue. My Grandfather was John F. Rue Jr. I have a lot of the same info that you posted thanks to my aunt Janice (Rue) Ramsey that she received from Grace (Rue) Smith, my great-aunt. My info says that Molly's name was Mahan instead of Meehan but if you have better records you're probably correct. My info also has the story about the civil war union soldiers but mine just says that they "insulted" the sister. I was not aware of her name, this fills in some gaps for me. I would love to exchange more information with you.
Ryan

I hope you're still on here. My name is Richard Ryan Rue. Richard Dennis "Dicky" Rue is my father, son of John Franklin Rue Jr of Jellico. All of those ladies you mentioned were his sisters (Tibbie, Grace- thanks to whom I know all of this, Margie, Louise aka "Easy") and Richard Walter was his brother. Their father was John Franklin Rue Sr. He married Lillie Emma Witt. Your grandfather would be me great-uncle. From what I know he was in Brushy Mountain for murder, apparently in self-defense (not sure why exactly but my dad does). Like I said, thanks to Grace and eventually through my Aunt Janice (John's daughter) I have quite a bit of information about our family. I look forward to hearing from you so we can exchange more information.
Ryan

On doing a search here in the family trees for Rues with Burns spouses, I found several:

Rachel Ann Rue m. William L. Burns
Sidney (?) Rue m. Frances M. Burns
Frank Rue m. Charlotte Burns
Andrew Rue m. Susan Morton, possibly Susan Burns (according to the listing)

I haven't looked in detail to see where these families were living. Does your picture give a hint as to the location it was taken?

Lisa

Hi,

I am looking for a Burns family connection with a Rue family. I have an old picture of a young couple on glass that has written on the back Mrs. Burns -Rue. I am related to the Burns family dating back to John L. Burns and Alice May Martin.

So far I can't find any connection. Please help.
Thanks.

Re: rue surname in minnesota Omar Edgar RUE

I recently bought an older car and it came with a car log...which includes a few pages describing a vacation in California in the summer of 1963.
I did a little research: Omar was born in 1916 in Minnesota and lived in Moorhead, Clay County with his mom Sophie (widowed) and his siblings: 1920 census Viola age 9; Sliva age 7 Verna age 4-11/12. Omer (spelling in census) E was age 3-6/12.
He later moved to the Los Angeles area and was a accountant. This would explain the detailed car records!
At some point prior to 1990 he and his wife moved to Nevada City, Nevada County, California. His wife was Eleanor Louise, maiden name unknown. According to the SSDI she was born in 1914. She died in CA 2002. Omar died in 2006.
If anyone is interested in a transcription of the vacation notes, let me know.

Regards,
Lorraine Schultz
Sonora, CA
