The current part of my Sharman Family History being researched has led me to Shillington in Bedfordshire. There the surnames Ruffell, Simkins and Sharman link in the second half of the nineteenth century. Please let me know if your research leads you to this family group too. Hopefully we can compare notes.

Re: Ruffell of Southampton

John Henry Ruffell and Louisa were my great great grandparents. On the census Louisa Ruffell (nee Padington) is a school mistress, and her daughter went on to be a governess. The children you mention may have been under her tuition. I do not know of any connection, although I have not finished researching the family yet. The Mary Padington listed was likely a relative though.

Re: Looking for any Ruffell from the New york area

I had a great great aunt (i think) ... move to New York. She went by Phyllis Ruffell but her real name was Ophelia Ruffell (born 1872) sister to William, john, george, elizabeth, fred, thomas, wendell, sarah, allis, and Richard Ruffell. I am looking at my notes and I guess Thomas also moved to new york. He was born in 1885 and died in 1978.
if this looks like your family, feel free to contact me at adhdsupport@shaw.ca
all the best,
Lisa

Ruffell of Southampton

There is a Ruffell family: John Henry (b. 1824), wife Louisa (b. 1828) and children Henry, Emily and Annie in the 1871 census at West Marland Terrace, Southampton.

With them in the 1871 census are Elizabeth and Walter Rollison (aged 14 and 11 respectively). Is there a family connection between the Ruffell and Rollison (or Rawlinson) family? I am researching the Rollison / Rawlinson family
