I would like to join your website, but found that your email address here is no longer active. I am a descendant of Casper, the immigrant Henry's son. Is the Rumfield site on MyFamily.com still live and may I join? Thanks,
Ellen Guttadauro

Re: Johann and Heinrich Rumpfelt

I am also interested in this family. However, I was told once by a family researcher that Henry, the son of Johann Rumpfeldt, was born in about 1718 near Worms in current-day Germany. I don't know what his source was.

With the birth year of 1770, (in your note) he would have died at age 17 -- fairly young to have had ten children. Perhaps we are looking at two different people?

Diverting somewhat... A land patent was granted to a Henry Rumfeldt in 1732 in Bucks County, PA. The index listing is at the PA Historical & Museum website. Go to: http://www.portal.state.pa.us/portal/server.pt/community/lan... and click on the "Old Rights Index: Bucks and Chester Counties". Good luck with your research.

I am trying to find out when Roscoe died, and where he was buried. I was told that he killed himself in Atoka, Oklahoma, but I do not if that is true or when it occured. I did find R. C. Rumfield in Stringtown, Atoka, Oklahoma, a boarder, in the 1930 census. He supposedly deserted his family in 1917. I do not know the real story. If anyone can help with any info on Roscoe, you can email me at shirleygrantfarrell@yahoo.com
Thank You very much;
Shirley

Minor was my grandfather's uncle (Willard W. (Buster) Rum.)
I remember visiting him in El Campo a short time before his death... as my g.father was seeing him in regards to his estate... Minor had asked him to take care of his affairs when he died. He gave me and my sisters each a silver dollar if my memory is correct. He worked for the Texaco Co.
for years as did one of his other bro.s (he had 4 or 5 and 2 or more sisters) His father was Andrew Jackson Rum., He had a nephew named for him (James Minor Rum.,who was my g.f.'s 1/2 brother).

Michael

The story my father told is that they were traveling by wagon with their dog to my grandparents house because Ivy wanted to be with her sister when the baby came. I don't know name of creek but found two possibilitis on map. Bull Creek and Red Bank Creek. Bull Creek looks like the more likely one though. I would bet the creek was rain swollen because there is not a lot of water flowing around in that part of Texas.
I think when they did not show up at the Roper's someone went to look for them. My dad did tell me that their dog was instrumemtal in finding the bodies. Their gravemarker at Brown Ranch Cemetary has December 12, 1923 as the date of their death. I saw a different date on something else but December is what is on their grave marker.

Your reply regarding Cora, Ora, and Ollie Rumfield is really helpful to us! Thank you, thank you!
We have heard that Ivy and John Yancy were killed by drowning on a trip to get Ivy to the hospital in Santa Anna, Texas for the delivery of their first thild. We do not know details such as:
1. how were they traveling.. .buggy, wagon, horseback
2. the name of the creek, river, or place of accident
3. was the water the result of rains, a washout?
4. how drowning was discovered?
5. was this journey during a spring thunderstorm?
6. exact date of accident and their burials?
We are very appreciative to receive more complete and accurate info about this tragic event.

Cora Lee was born 2/17/01. I do not know where since the whole Rumfield family seems to have escaped the census in both 1910 and 1920. She married Conrad Thomas Bell in Coleman. They had a daughter, Ruby Joyce, 5/6/27, in Coleman. At some point they moved to Portales, N. M. They had two other children that I can remember. Margaret, I don't know how old she is but quit a bit older than I am because she used to come stay with us when we lived in Albuquerque and she was a grown women(maybe a teenager?) when I was a child. Thomas (Tom) is maybe a couple of years older than myself but probably not much. The last contact I had with him he lived he lived in Greenville. Cora died in April 1979 in Portales..
Ora was married to O A (Curley) Hatton and they lived in Ranger as long as I can remember. Ora died in September 1968. They had one daughter, Geraldine Gill. she was born March 1926 and as far as I know she is still alive. I try to watch the obits for what few relatives I know I still have. Geraldine lives in Bellevue north of here on Hwy 287. Sha has one daughter.
Ollie married a man named Turner but I never knew him. I don't know if he died young or what. She lived in Minden, La. She had two sons. Willie C born in 1925 & Pratt Jean born in 1927. I have only met Pratt because he came to Ranger with his mother one time. I think Ollie died in April 1984
Do you know the tragic story about Ivy and John Yancy?

Eva (it was pronounced Evy) my grandmother married Joe Roper. I don't know the date. They had two children. My father, John Henry and Willie Lloyd. My father had two girls, myself and my sister Joe. My Uncle Bub (Willie L) had a son,Eugene and a daughter, Janice. My father passed away July 22, 1995 and Willie L passed away December 19, 2005. My grandmother passed away in 1962 and my grandfather died in 1973.
The boys were Luther -1894, Julius - 1905, Emmett - 1908, Carl - 1914, Jeff -1917, Oscar - ?.
The girls were Eva - 1894, Ollie- 1897, Ora - 1899, Cora - 1901, Ivy - 1903, & and a baby girl that died at birth or shortly thereafter that was not named-1918. I guess this is enough for now. Will send more I know later.

I am the grand daughter of Eva Ophelia Rumfield. I believe she was the second child of Henry and Alice after Luther. I am John Henry Roper's daughter. Who is your mother or father. I have just started on my quest to identify my ancestors and find I now can do little else. I have a few pictures I am more than willing to share with you or anyone else interested if you don't already have them. They seem to have been taken at a farm house around 1919-1920 because my dad appears to be around 4-5 years old. They are of the five girls and six boys.

Yes, most were still in Lehigh County that I know of. According to my notes, Louisa married Francis Reinhard c.1848. The first child was born in Whitehall Twp and the remaining children in Upper Saucon Twp. I have received an unverified report that her parents are Lydia ? and Solomon b. 1786 and the parents of Solomon were Caspar Rumfield and Catherine Schautzenbach

Thanks so much for your reply and I hope to hear from you soon

The info was probably lost when I had a PC crash last year.

I will try to get over to the library on Saturday and see what I can find out.

Henry was a neighbor to ny Johann Georg Marsteller, who also settled in Upper Saucon. He had the next tract of land between the Blue Church and the Marsteller property. It is really beautiful out there. I am local so have been working on the land records of the Marsteller line.

I will let you know what I find out.

Claudia,
Mora Lawing Rumfelt's parents were James and Martha (Hensley) Lawing. They are buried in the old part of Round Hill Cemetery in Union Mills, NC in Rutherford. There is not a tombstone with names on it but a tall rock. Jones Bloom Rumfelt and Mora are buried in Glenwood Cemetery in McDowell County. Faye Lawing Mode's mother Mrs. James Lawing is still living at the age of 95. She could fill you in on a lot of details. Also, Lloyd Eugene Rumfelt, James Lawing Rumfelt's brother lives in Marion. He maybe able to help you.
I am working on the Rumfelts from McDowell County. Is your father still living? All I know of him is he married Gloria Joyce Davis and was born in 1921. I would love to have a picture of him and/or his father. Also, do you know if James Romnel Rumfelt was the the son of James Bloom Rumfelt and Arvis West Rumfelt? Was this James Lawing Rumfelt's half brother? I can't find anything else on James Romnel Rumfelt. Thank you for your help if I can help you let me know.
Jeanette,
Thank you for responding. Unfortunately, my father passed in 1987 and my mother in 1994, too early for both of them. I have visited my Uncle Gene since moving back to NC from California. I really need to call him again. Mrs. James Lawing...is she any relation to Maggie Lawing? Maggie was one of my father's aunts and they were very close. How would I go about contacting Mrs. James Lawing? You can email me at rumfeltwright@msn.com. Thank you so much for your help.
