This absolutely ties in with my father's family. Charles came to Australia and married Myrtle Waite and as far as I'm aware had no further contact with his family. Unfortunately anyone that knew anything has since passed away so I have no idea why or when he came to Australia. There seems to be no record of him until he married my grandmother but there was a family rumour that he jumped ship.

Thank you for your help. I'll now try to work back from here.

Kindest regards
Evelyne Grenfell - nee Rumney

The Rumney family came from the village of Pill , situated in Somerset on the southern bank of the River Avon . They were one of a number of families stretching back to the 1700s who piloted ships up the Bristol Channel & Avon Gorge on their way to the Port of Bristol. William John Rumney, born in Pill c1848, moved to Cardiff ,shortly after his marriage to Elizabeth Hoskins in 1877. They raised a large family there including my Grt Grandmother Bessie Gertrude and her brothers Charles (b.1888) and William John (b. 1882).The latter moved to Swansea where he died in 1958 his wife Abinah having died there some fifteen years earlier. Hope that some of this helps.

Dear Sandy,

Edward Featherstone Rumney is connected to me through my gggg grandfather, Thomas Rumney (a lead miner) who married Mary Hetherington in 1781, Kirkhaugh, Cumberland, UK. They had six children, including Thomas who was born 11 Nov 1812.

Thomas married Elizabeth Bell 26/01/1837 in Alston and they had seven children, including Joseph Rumney (Sep 1848).

Joseph married Hannah Hodgson Dec 1878 in Hexham. They had eleven children including Edward Featherstone Rumney in Dec 1890 in Alston. 'Featherstone' is a small village not far from Alston and Edward is buried in St Cuthberts Church within the parish of Haydon. On FreeBMD.org.uk, Edward is registered as Featherstone Rumney and appears on the UK census as Featherstone then it changes to Edward so it was interesting to see your post about him.

I hope this has been of some use to you.

I have an original Cabinet Card photograph of “Ida Rumney”, which I’d like to get back to descendants or family members. Photo was taken in about 1890-1895, in Sandwich (DeKalb Co.) IL, she looks about age 16.

I found an Ida M. Rumney in the 1900 census for Somonauk (DeKalb Co.), with birth Oct 1876, dau. of Robert and Mary Rumney. There was another Ida P. Rumney listed in the 1920 census as age 42, but she was wife of Edward Rumney, but the girl in the photo is surely pre-marriage, and I believe her to be the dau. of Robert/Mary.

Get back to me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to Ida Rumney.

I’m looking for this family of Rumney's. Hiram and Harriet lived in Philadelphia, at least until 1930, maybe longer. Raymond's family is in New Jersey in 1930, but he dies in San Diego in 1975.

Hiram Rumney b. Feb 1876
+Harriet b. July 1870
==Donal         b. Box 6237 San Diego , CA 92166
Interment Date: 4 Dec 1975
Cemetery: Ft. Rosecrans National Cemetery
Buried At: Section W Site 1091
Cemetery URL: http://www.cem.va.gov/nchp/ftrosecrans.htm

I am a distant relative. John and Alice Rothwell were actually living with Hiram and family in 1910, and are listed as brother-in-law and sister-in-law to Hiram. That means Harriet is either John or Alice's sister, not sure which actually.

Anyway, John and Alice are my G-G-Grandparents.

If you have any information, feel free to email me at javatestcase@yahoo.com.

Thank you

Bill Tarr

Wow! You are the first person I have ran into that was searching for this Crain-Rumney family line. I have absolutely no clue as to the parents of Heriba, and almost none on John. I do think John's father might have been Silas Crain.

My line of descent is: James McKinney and Mary Ann Crain, through their son Andrew McKinney, who was my g-grandfather. He married Sarah Ann Maybee and they had four boys, one of which was my grandfather Jacob Charles McKinney who married Minnie Ollie Cain. Their daughter, my mother was Ethel May Elizabeth McKinney.

If you discover anything at all regarding Heriba or John Crain's family, I would certainly appreciate your notifying me. I will keep your name on file in case I discover anything.

Happy to share any information that I have on the family of James McKinney, Andrew McKinney, Jacob McKinney, etc.

Robert Rumney Family-Wayne County, Michigan, Circa 1796-1860s

Looking for info on Robert Rumney (circa 1796-1860s)& family of Wayne County, Michigan. Robert was born in England (according to the Census records)and lived in Ontario County, NY with his first wife, Gertrude ?, where she is buried. Her death date is given as November 12, 1826. Robert married second, Catherine Young, around 1841. He apparently moved to Wayne County, Michigan sometime after his first wife died and before he married his second wife. According to the 1840, 1850 & 1860 Wayne County, Michigan Census he was a merchant in the Detroit area. Looking for children he had by both wives. Also seeking death date and burial place of Robert Rumney. He is believed to have died sometime between 1860 and 1870, as he is listed in the 1860 Census, but in the 1870 Census he is not listed and his wife Catherine is living in the household of William Rumney, who is possibly a son of Robert. Also looking for death date & place of his second wife, Catherine. Any info on Robert Rumney, his second wife and descendants would be much appreciated.
Hi Wanda!

Thanks for the reply. So if you are the great-grandaughter of Thomas Rumney then you would have some information :)
We don't really know a lot about the Rumney's. Just that Mary Anne Angers (my great-great grandfathers sister) married Thomas Rumney. Joseph Sunderland Rumney was one of their children. We have that he was born in 1864 but don't know when he died, who he married, etc. We do have some children for Joseph listed. Bob, Dean, Ray, Violet, Joan and Bert Rumney, but that is all. Hope you can fill in this side of the family. I know that the Rumney's are not really directly related to me or my family, but we do find it very interesting and would love to have a family tree that is quite complete. Thanks and hope to hear from you soon!
