I have just Googled 'Rundall' and discovered I have an awful lot of cousins I didn't know about! Like Philip, my great-grandfather was Francis Hornblow Rundall, so far as I recall; will dig out the family tree and check if that's right, or whether he's great great... But at some point along the line (my paternal grandmother?) the splendid 'Hornblow' nose has died out and been replaced by a more diminutive version that has always been known in our family as 'the Rundall nose' (it's passed now through several generations). My father was Jeremy Rundall, only son of Francis Anthony Rundall. I also have have a brother, Tim, who laments the loss of 'Hornblow' as a family name; he is a guitarist but would surely have been a brass player had he inherited his forebear's name! Neither of us has a son, so the Rundall name is going to die out on our side of the family. Would be interested to hear from Philip, if you're still in contact with this site.

I am not sure if would be related to your family line; but if so I would be happy to help you & vice versa.
Re: the Book that you talk about.
The Rundall or Rundell was in the names for Mary Jane Bittles. But that will not show in the census. That is info I have from my family. I do not know if that was her maiden name or the mother of Mary Jane. Year: 1910; Census Place: Chicago Ward 5, Cook, Illinois; Roll: T624_244; Page: 1A; Enumeration District: 290; Image: 1217.
Thanks you for responding.

I am seeking information for my grandmother Lillian Mae Bittles (birth abt 1902). Her mother would be Mary Jane Kidner (birth abt 1880). But also last names of Rundall/Rundell? Mary's husband was a George H Bittles. Mary had Lillian and Charles F (birth abt 1906). The 1910 census for Illionis has family listed. I can not find anything before the 1910 census.

I would really like to converse with you. Please email me at rundlequest@sbcglobal.net at your earliest convenience. I look forward to hearing from you. My line continues with William's son Joseph, then Joseph Jr., Ezra, Luther, Case, Orlando, Edwin, James, John, and then of course myself. I have also been in contact with other Rundle's (and their variations) and have some information on some of William Rundall's ancestors. I would love to share the information I have.

As far as I can tell, I am a descendant of John Randoll and Ann Goldstone's throught their son William Rundel and his marriage to Abigail Tyler. As such, I have done quite a bit of work on my family genealogy and would be willing to share what I have. For starters, my direct line is as follows; John (Ann Goldstone) Randoll, William (Abigail Tyler) Rundel, Joseph (Mindwell Ferris) Rundel, Joseph (Unknown Wife) Rundel, Ezra (Elizabeth Knapp) Rundel, Luther (Elizabeth Newcomb) Rundel, Case (Clarissa Waldo) Rundel, Orlando (Alice Whitford) Rundel, Edwin (Grace Kohler) Rundle, James (Bertha Gray) Rundle, John (Marianne O'Mara) Rundle and then there is me, Patrick Rundle. I also have a lot of sibling information for most of the above names and their descendants and even some additional ancestors and related surnames. All together, I have just shy of 4,200 names and I know I still have a lot to add. If you have some information that may be useful, I would like to hear from you. Please send email to rundlequest@sbcglobal.net and put Rundle in the subject line.

Jack, Reading your message I'm pretty sure you must be a son of Francis Rundall (son of Mary and Montie Rundall). By chance my mother gave me a newspaper death notice of Montie and by ringing Enquiries I reached Mary. I have met Mary, Margaret and Nick. When I met Nick in Torronto I discovered so much about my family history because you are descended via an elder son (Col. M.F. Rundall). I even found letters by my grandparents + lots of miniature paintings. There is a mine of information almost within your grasp (I believe the bulk of it is in Nick's possession in Canada). Our closest common connection with Helen Rundall is John Rundall (b. 1738). Nick has a miniature of him and his wife, Lucy Collins. If you'd like to contact me directly, I would be delighted to help you find out more. It would be great to see you sometime! Incidentally I'm an ancient old fellow of 58 yrs! Best wishes, Philip

I've just stumbled across Helen Rundall's message! My great grandfather was General Francis Hornblow Rundall C.S.I and Colonel Commandant of the Royal Engineers. He was married to Fanny Seton-Burn (descended from the Seton's with connections with Mary Queen of Scots (Mary Seton was one of her Ladies in Waiting + her father, also a loyal supporter) and way back, Robert Bruce). My father's first cousins Montie and Lionel Rundall (both Gurkha officers like their father and indeed, my own. The Indian connection goes back 5 generations) were killed within 24 hours of each other in the battle of Festerbut in 1914. I discovered only 4 or 5 years ago that Montie had married a year before his death and that a son, Montie, was born a month after his death. Through a chance meeting with Montie junior's widow, Mary, I have made contact with all of Montie's descendants, apart from Francis Rundall of Cheltenham. I have also got to know the descendants of Montie senior's sister 'Dollie' - the McBurney family - Anne (now dead), her sons Gerard and Simon and daughter Henrietta. Anne's husband was the eminent Cambridge Pre-Historian Charles McBurney (now dead).
Francis, William and John are common names within our branch of the family. My aunt Charlotte, Ada, Joan Rundall married Arthur Grigsby and emigrated to the U.S.A. Her daughter Faith married a W.Norris and lived in Oregon. I have no contact with this branch. Best wishes, Philip Rundall

I hope that you receive this message after quite a while between postings. My grandfather was Francis Rundall, I know of Phillip Rundall too. I am a Rundall (my father is John Rundall). Which 'branch' of the family do you belong to? I am aware of the Indian connection, my grandfather was abroad there as a child.

Re: Francis RUNdall

Hi Jack,
Was browsing this evening and found this message board. Yours was the only message that made any sense to me , so here's what I can add to what you know.
Francis certainly seems to be a recurring family name ... I have a copy of a family tree for my branch of the family with several Francis's.
Another Rundall I know (Phillip Rundall) is more closely connected to what may be your branch .... he had been intrigued by a Montague ,and I think his brother (?) ,who died in WWI and he only recently discovered Montague had children before he died ( and has located some relatives in Canada?). Also, I was recently going through my late father's papers and found a letter to my grandmother in I think the 1930's refering to Montague and a "Young Monty"? Sorry this is a bit sketchy ... I'll try to hunt out the letter and send you the correct details that I know.
I believe you're right about the India (Madras ) connection during 18th & 19th centuries.... lots of engineers, both civil and military. When I was travelling in India about 20 years ago I found a Rundall Rd and a memorial to another Rundall in the church in Fort St George, Madras. My grandmother was born there as well
Good luck with your researches !
Helen Rundall, Ealing,London.

I have very little knowledge of Randoll's in England. I do know that my ancestor John A. Randoll was born 1615 - 1621 at Tonbridge, Kent - I do not know who his parents were. July 8 1644 at Tonbridge, Kent he married Anne Goldstone, dau of (Henry) Goldstone and Anne Unknown. Anne died at Tonbridge, Kent before Jul 15, 1649. (Henry) and Anne had one child - William - born late 1646 - early 1647 at Tonbridge, Kent. William emigrated shortly after that time to the U.S.
I would like to know more about the Randoll & Goldstone
families of that time. Knowing of prresent day desc. of those families would also be great.

Are you related?
Are you in the U.S.?

Austin Rundall Clayton
austin.clayton@dol.net

I believe your Silas may be the son of John Reuben and Martha (Tompkins) Rundall of Linn County, Iowa Ca 1906. My Great-Greatgrandmother, Fanny Elisabeth and Silas were siblings. I have some limited information on the RundalIs that I can send you. The info will include pictures of the Reuben Rundall family showing Silas at about age 70 plus others. If you are interested, send me your E-mail address.
