What about details? Do you know if she lived in Missouri? I recall that my mother's father was German - don't know if he was first generation or not. But I absolutely know she grew up somewhere in Missouri (she always used to joke that she came from the "show me" state) and that she lived for a time in New York as well as New Mexico (with my dad, who was in the air force). Seems like I have a lot of info, but have been stuck right where I am for several months!
I have not found that link in my tree yet as I'm stuck on this ancestor. She says she was shown a portrait of Daniel Rush every time she visited this uncle and was told to remember because he was very important and the family was very proud of the accomplishments. Any help appreciated sorry this is so long. :)

Rush of PA and OH

Who was Jacob Rush born 1740-1750 and (according to a court case in Monroe Co. OH) died ca 1832 in IN. He was probably the Jacob Rush in 1810 Ohio Co. WV where Jeremiah, Bethuel and Isaac Rush can be found. He was in Monroe County, OH between 1820-1830 and definitely had a son named Samuel and a son-in-law Alexander Massie (wife Mary). His wife's name was Prudence on an 1827 land deed in Monroe Co. Other possible sons were: Jeremiah, Isaac, Peter, Richard and Bethuel. This group of Rushes seemed to travel with Pittmans, Truaxes, Mellotts, and Tremblys, so he seems to come from the Bedford/Somerset areas of PA. Any suggestions or info would be greatly appreciated!

Papp, if you can trace your roots back to Benjamin Rush, you are most likely English instead of Irish, as his Grandfather and Grandmother on both sides came over from England.

That is great that you have the paperwork.

Hi again I just got this info from someone in Australia I know thre is some helpful stuff in there but my head hurts

Mary was born 1781 Christened 1789 aged 8 with her brother William aged 6 yrs at st Andrews Sth Lopham Parents were John and Elizabeth Rush nee Rice I have not been able to find a birth record. When i said there was some confusion I found a record for the birth of Henry Rush 1794 Sth Lopham parents John and Dinah Rush nee Rice ! So maybe Elizabeth died and John, married her sister or cousin !

I have a record for John Rush b abt 1736 occ farrier (on IGI) he was born Sth L and married Sarah Leftly there on 21 dec 1767 They had a son John C may 21 1771 sth lopham He is too young to be the john Rush who is Mary's father but he might be of interest to you ( Sarah was from Eye so maybe there has been a transcription error somewhere or he might have been born Eye Christened Sth Lopham - ) Anyway his siblings were Sarah C 28 may 1776 Henry C8 june 1779... (Henry m Susanne Reynolds ) John b 1771 m Sarah Newman ?

Sarah Leftly died nov 1798 John remarried in 1799 to Susanne Thurlow both wids - he died 1806, 70yrs, having properties in Eye and in Sth Lopham. Susanne remarried 1809 to George Hunt

John Rush b 1771 m Anne Andrews 29 may 1793 Sth Lopham - this could be a re marriage but could be another John Rush altogether Anne died 1808 ( they had several children that died as babies )

Also there is a record for a John Rush wid married Mary Rivet 1809

Wish I could be more helpful but Im working from notes and without verifications I put my Rush research on the back burner after trying in vain for several years to find Mary's father If you come across her line please let me know

All the best Diana

Thanks for that Steve. The photo of the headstone is a bit hard to read but someone else transcibed the names as:
John Rush d 1/12/1890 74th year
Dinah Rush wife 20/5/1901 80th year
That matches what I have so I'm pretty certain they are your ancestors.
Regards Alan

Hello Steve.
Latest thinking is that there were two John Rushes born 1771 who lived in South Lopham at the same time.

The first bapt 15/9/1771 at Eye Suffolk was the son of John Rush & Elizabeth Lanham. This family moved to SL about 1781. John married Ann Andrews. (I think you come from this family).

The second was born 1771 in South Lopham, son of John & Sarah Leftley. He married Dinah.

This is not quite priven but seems likely
Alan

Susan, you pictures are awesome!! Wish I could help more on them, but please confirm for me that in the group of four adults, the couple on the left are William Allen Ray and his wife, Annie Lou McLeary (my great grandparents!) Have never seen this pic!! Please tell me who the others are in the pics. I just sent you an email invitation to my tree, so that will probably answer most of your questions. Please post these pics and any others onto my tree! I learned some since I posted about this family. Anything on my tree that you have and I don't show, yes please help!!! We need to collaborate! Does your husband descend from William Allen Ray, or from Ralda's later children with her husband John Leonard Ray? Yes, I have corresponded with Mary Ann, who helped point me in the right direction!! Since then, though, is when I learned that William Allen Ray (Raldie's first child) was not really born as a "Ray." Not sure if Mary Ann even knows that! Yes,I found the Dimington and Wolfscale connections through ancestry.com. See my tree that I am inviting you to! Thanks for responding.

Pam,

Congratulations on learning about your RUSH connection. How did you come upon this information?

I am researching my husband's ancestry; he has heard stories about being a descendant of Raldie Rush and wishes he knew when and where she died and was buried.

Have you corresponded with Mary Ann Gauer from Ontario, California? She told me who the older men are in the attached pictures. However, I wish I could identify the woman and the child. (This is from a 15" X 19" framed portrait that has been handed down but we don't know who it is.)

She found the marriage for Harrison Rush and Hannah M. Dimington in Kentucky, McCracken Co, Paducah 1842 Nov 15. She also told me where to find Harrison Rush's family in the census for 1850, 1860, and 1870. Hannah must have died between 1860-1870. Do you know her death date or his after 1870? From the census I come up with 10 children.

From your post are you saying William and Rachel (Wolfscale) Rush are the parents of Harrison Rush (with John possibly being the father of William)? This is new information for me. Do you know of any other children for William and Rachel?

For all of the Ray/Rush ancestors I have tried to find all children (brothers/sisters) and their children in the census. I will be glad to provide any of this if you need it.

You are welcome to contact me directly at susannote@yahoo.com
