Rushing or McKinney in AR

I'm looking for any information on a Mrs. Jocie Rushing who was living in El Dorado (Route 5), Union County, Arkansas in 1939.

My grandmother's brother (Samuel Joseph McKinney) showed her as his nearest relative on his WW II Draft Registration Card, and I'm trying to figure out if she could be their missing sibling. IF she is a sibling, she would have been Jocie (Josie or some variation) McKinney, born between 1870-1900 in Union County, Arkansas. The only other possible connection that I can think of might be to his then deceased wife, Pearl Snell McKinney (d. 1919 Union County).

Thanks for any help.

I have some Rushings up in that area. The Great Uncle's that moved out there from TN were Lewis Rushing and Donnally Rushing. There were also 2 Great Aunts Eddie and Robbie. They were all born in the 1880's and moved to Northern CA sometime between 1910 and 1920.

They were born to Elizabeth Jean Torres aka my grandma Betty and Travis Rushing Sr. My uncle Dino passed away 07/08/09. My great grandma's name is Opal.
I'm not sure if we are kin or not? But my great grandmother was a Rushing by marriage, her maiden name was baker. She was a daughter to an Cherokee Indian slave that married her slave owner. I'm not sure on all the details, but she did walk the trail of tears. They ended up in Fredonia Kentucky. My great granny was known by the name Mammie. Her given name was Mary Jane Baker Rushing. Her mother was full blooded cherokee indian. My grandmother, Mammie's daughter had the high cheek bones and was dark skin.

My grandmother's name was Rosa Lila (sp?) Rushing. She married James Madison Green circa 1918. Rosa Leila's parents were Mollie and Mr. Rushing (I don't know my great-grandfather's first name.) However, family history has it that he was either a Cherekee or Choctow Chief. Mollie Rushing was of mixed heritage, Indian and Creole. Some family members say that she was only Creole.

Mollie and Mr. Rushing had several children, my grandmother, Rosa Leila, Sara, Myrtle, John and Samuel. Samuel served and died in World War I.

They lived in the Demopolis, Alabama area. It is also near Dug Hill. My family oral history also asserts that they migrated to Alabama from Mississippi.

any information, please respond at lisarice@aol.com

I am trying to find some info on a Margaret Jane Rushing (poss. spelled Russian). I am not sure if she is from the same line of Rushing's but she does have 2 sisters Cora and Nan. They are both thought to have married Thornhills. I am not sure where Margaret was from but I was told that she did live in Walthall County, Mississippi for a while. Margaret married Houston Isaac Toney and had 4 children, Lee Toney, Henry W. Grady Toney (My Grandfather), Dorothy Dean Toney(m.first husband Baughman, 2nd husband Chris Nubig- from Germany)and Sarah Toney (unsure of married name).
Any info on Margaret Jane Rushing would be greatly appreciated. I can be reached at coreya@netdoor.com .
Thank you,
Rhonda Ardis

I know very little about my grandfather, but here goes...His name was Walter Ewing Rushing, born 1/16/1904, died in August 1982. He was born in Benton County,TN (near Paris) and moved to Johnson City, TN in 1924. His first job was with Gamblin (sp?) Oil. During the war, he worked for Ralston Defense in Oak Ridge. He owned 2 different gas stations, the last one was a Texaco station purchased in 1952 in Johnson City, TN. I know that he had two brothers, Othell and Nathaniel. Othell died last May. (Sure wish I had started this in time to contact him!!)

Walter married Mae Raines and they had four kids (Bill, Betty, Bob and Ben). Ben was my father. Betty and Bob are the only two still alive to my knowledge. We aren't close, and I don't even know if I could contact them.

Let me know if this fits with any of your information! Nice to hear from you!

I was glad to see the info you posted on Stanley Silas Rushin (the "g" is not used by my family). He was my gggrandfather. However, I need to correct my ggrandmother's name. Her name was Minerva Jane, not Malinda James. She married Anderson Taylor Webb, Jr. Their son, Mallard Stanley Webb, married Vera Carmen Forbess (later one "s" was dropped making it Forbes). My mother, Alice Marie Webb Choate, was the youngest of 8 children born to this union.
