My husband's family name is Hillin, and he is a direct descendant from Orville Hillin,1818-1844 in Baton Rouge. He was married to Sarah Davis; they had two boys, Robert Hillin, 1842-? and David Barton Hillin, 1843-1916 (husband's ancestor)

Sarah married William Russ after the death (1844) of Orville, and had the children mentioned in the 1850 census, residing in Smith Township, Drew County, Arkansas. Robert and David Hillin are also listed; they are children of Sarah and Orville Hillin.

Does anyone have information on Orville Hillin, his father, Robert Hillin or Orville's grandfather, Jacque Hillin or earlier Hillins, all who lived in Baton Rouge, East Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana???

Hopefully this helps you.
Riley Russ b: 6-14-1904 d: 9-14-1961
Axie (Baker) Russ b: 8-8-1909, d: 11-22-2004
Axie's SSN: 406-18-8552
City of death: Frankfort, County of death: Franklin
Zip of death: 40621
Axie's Brothers and Sisters in birth order(age in 1930)
Spencer (married Mary-son Rudolph)(@23)
Axie (22)(married Riley-daughter Jewel)
Phoebe (19)
Robert (17)
Nora (16)
Grace (14)
Minnie (12)
Lilly (11)
Fred (7)
From what I understand, Jewel was actually my grandmother's (Wayne's mom) nickname. The 1930 census for Flat Lick, Kentucky shows her name as Jewel but it's actually Bernice.

I am looking for any information on my great-grandmother Emily Florine Russ. My mother does not know a lot about her family history but here is what we have...

She was born around 1907. She married Charles Harris Kersten (who went by Bo) and had two children, Iris and Everett (who went by Buddy). They lived in Cleburne and Sealy Texas I believe. The divorced when the kids were fairly young and she remarried Ernest Kunze later. Emily had one brother, Frank, married to Bess. I don't believe they had any children.

So that's it. I'm just starting to dig into our family history and don't really know what I'm doing yet. Any help is appreciated!!

Robyn

Sorry to bother you. I am looking for relatives in Marne and Meldorf Germany and wondered if you had found any Catholic churches or other denominations in that area that exhisted in 1857 or later. The Ivo/Homan families I am looking for are in Meldorf, and the Braack/Bendix families are from Marne. I was able to locate the names and locations in Germany of these families from death cert. of their children. So I have made it across the ocean and am stuck. If you have found success in researching these areas, I would love some help. Thanks, Sue

I did a search on Intelius.com and found an Alphonso Russ (Alfonso) age 63. It reports that he lived in Jamaica, NY; Rosedale, NY; and Springfield Gardens, NY. (no dates, but I will cross check with Ancestry.com) Family members or relatives shown are Ebony D Russ; Dianne Russ, Abdul S Russ, and Lillie R Beatty.

There is also listed and an Alphonso Russ age 24 listed as living in Bellerose, NY; Deerpark, NY, Rosedale, NY, Springfield Gardens, NY. with family/relatives shown as Venise V Russ, Ebony D Russ, Abdul S Russ, Lillie R Beatty.

These two have common family names but different ages. FATHER and SON (Junior).

This may or may not be your ALPHONSE RUSS, but from the information you have for him in your tree, you gave a birth date of 12/25/1947. The age fits.

I'll keep looking. Hope this helps.

Re: Wilson Russ

I am not a little embarrased to respond ten (10) years later....but I was upset that this theory ended up in Mr. Russ's book, when I knew it was wrong. And it is pprobably my fault for not correcting it at the time.
The Willson Russ that appears in the 1800 Census of Tolland County, CN, is in fact Wilson Rust. You can find Willson Rust in the 1810 CN Census still in Tolland C0, Coventry.
Also in the Town Records (published) of Coventry Town we find on page 105 teh Births of Nathaniel W.(Wilson) and Rachel (Babcock) Rust listed. In addition his death is also in the Town records as 26 March 1826.
The "Record of the Rust Family" by Albert D. Rust, published in 1891 we find on page 120 a confirming biography of Nathaniel Wilson Rust from Coventry CT. Willson Rust was a Revolutionary War veteran and there is ample information available in that regard also, some of which I have obtained in my process of elimination.
This was especiialy hard to accept even 20 years agao because it would have been so nice for this to be our Wilson who emigrated to Canada. Especially because there are Russ and Rust families both in Tolland County.
However the good news is that we both agree on the "logic" of the connection to Hezekiah (b 1641)and Deborah (Wilson) Russ. And it is still in this connection that I have my new pursuit but not through his sons Hezekiah (b 1723 and my prior theory) or John (b 1721 and the theory of Herbert Russ), but his third son JONATHAN, b 1726. This is much more satisfying because Wilson did name his eldest son Jonathan after all. To wit:
JONATHAN (b 1726) had sons Jonathan (b 1753 a revolutionay vet that ended up in Madison County New York. And we know our Wilson was in NY for some time. JAMES (b 1754) and Wilson also named one of his sons James. EPAPHRAS (b 1757) also moved to NY Saratoga County. Also a revolutionary war soldier. and NATHAN (b1761) and it is Nathan that strickes the interest. Nathan Rus was also a revolutionary war soldier serving with Capt. Wright's Company at Ballston with a John Riss[John Reis]...maybe Russ? AND NEHEMIAH HUBBELL and other Hubbells. Wilson's (b C1760) daughters married the son's of Nehemiah Hubbel as they were all living in the same town in Canada. AND Wilson's grandson was named..not just Wilson, but Nathan Wilson. So that is my latest Theory and I am working on its further possibilities.

Re: Russ family in Wiltshire or London UK

Hi
Only just seen this so dont know if threr is any connection or not, very unusual to find a Russ around London.
My Grandmother was Grace Lillian Elizabeth Wright (Nee Russ), born in London, Her father was George William Russ, and acording to her birth certificate her mother was Amelia Paul however in the 1891 census George William is a widow, and Amelia Paul is the house keeper. George William Russ father was George Russ and his wife was Jane Thorn
You will find my tree under hunneybell1 on the ancestry.com.uk or .au websites. My grandmother always insisted she changed her name when she re-married after the war because she wanted no association with the family that deserted her when she was a very small child. Not sure how true that was, because everything i have found seems to tie up with the russ name. The other clue was that my grandmothers mother was an american actress working in London and the family (grandparents) were against any marriage because she was divorced (they were staunch catholic), and beneath his station. Later census show her siblings living with their grandmother in London and she is working as a servant. Her father is living elsewhere and has housekeeper etc.
anyway if you can help on this or correct any errors that would be good, my gran, grace lillian elizabeth wright (Russ)lived with my family and i till she died.
Best wishes, dave & sue hunneybell email: hunneybell1@dodo.com.au
