William Nelson Ruston, which I believe is your Uncle Bill was my husband's great grandfather. His oldest son Lonie was my husband's grandfather. We still live in Pleasanton, as well as some of the other family. I did find John M Ruston and have many war documents concerning him. I also have a picture of Andrew, Ida, William, and a sister of William's. This line has frustrated me, its hard to search without pulling up irrelevant material related to Ruston, LA. Uncle Ern (Ernest) does still live in Devine. Any info you would share is welcome, and I would love to share with you. My email address is rustonfamilytree@yahoo.com I look forward to hearing from you! Amanda Ruston

Re: John M. Ruston

My grandfather was John M. Ruston. His father was Andrew Newman Ruston. My grandmother was Annie Lou (McCall) Ruston. My grandparents lived in Devine, but the family was centered around Pleasanton, Texas (Atacosa County). I may have a good deal of other information that may be of benefit to you. However, the information on my grandfather's grandfather is interesting. Amongst the Scots Irish it was common for the first son to be named for their father's father. So skipping back a generation you may find another John M. Ruston, just as I have. My grandfather had a younger brother, William "Bill" Ruston. When I was growing up (in Hondo, Texas) both my grandparents and Uncle Bill lived in Devine, Texas. I think one of Uncle Bill's grandsons still runs a business in Devine. What line of the family are you from?

I would need more information on your family. but in the Ruston Tree there are a lot of George's going back to the 1650 which my ancestors name was George Ruston born 1650. If you have any other family names and would you know the date of birth or place of birth. My ancestor Robert Ruston came to Canada in 1835 along with his three brothers ( James, George and William)to settle land in Albany Township, Peel County near Brampton Ontario Canada. Later Robert sold his land to his brother James and bough land in Peel Township, Wellington County North of Guelph Ontario Canada. I will help you were if I can Stephen

I did not know that information my cousin gave you either but I have a quiet a few books on Wellington county Ontario Canada where my Ruston ancestors settled and have been in touch with other distant relitives thought the Peel county Archives in near Toronto Ontario Canada where the other two brothers settled. As well as Geneology Reunited in England to acquire some of my information. I have traced My Ruston Tree back to 1650 but have other Rustons before that which are dated between 1500 and 1650 that I have not yet connected to the tree. I know that during the rebellion in Canada in 1835 one of the brothers fled to the United States for being tried and hung for treason for being on the loosing side of the fight. I have found documents stating this but could not find a list of names of the ones that fled.

intterment (right spelling this time.) Is another word for burial and registering of name of deceased.
All counties try and keep a record of these.
Is another way to trace your family. i found it works very well.
I think they are all registered in the church records.
Just type intterment into the computer and it will bring up a list of places(country,s.) You just have to type the name and were they were from and hopefully it will bring it up.
Good luck in your search.
I have found rustyleadfoot is a gr8 source for info. Think I still have the info someplce.
will check when I have some spare time. Can,t promise time on it tho.
The intterments will let you know who they married and when, then you can trace either side back by using history from them.
Good luck

my cousin got back to me James Ruston Born 1811 married Sarah Waudby on March 1832 they had a big family and William which is the oldest is my cousins relations. But they did have a sone James that went to the States to live. Do you have a birth dat on your James Ruston??? I loved your site especially the tartan brings back memories as I have Robertson and Clark on my Mothers side and my great grandparents and Grandparents came to Canad in 1911 to farm and live. I am retired now and when I was 19 I went for a wee holiday in Scotland for two months and stayed with my grandmothers youngest brother. I wanted to stay, get a job and live there but he wouldn't let me. you know to this day i can still pick out someone from Glasgow by his speach. I don't know if this info on James helps. My email is Rustyleadfoot at yahoo dot com. I went to school with a Henderson in Fergus Ontario Canada. I have 4 Henderson family trees listed in my book 1. George Henderson born 1781 in Berwickshire Scotland. 2. Thomas Henderson son of George came to canada as a infant. 3. Magnus Henderson born 1832 in Caithness shore Scotland. 4. Simond Henderson came her to settle from Ireland in 1798 I have no date of birth recorded. As I grew up in Fergus Ontario Canada which was settled by mostly Scottish families and a few English in the late 1700 and earily 1800 hundreds.
Take care Bryan
My Richard Ruston's parents were George and Sarah(Shephard) Ruston were settled in Old Malton Yorkshire England.I have not found out the month only a year was given. I will continue my search to see if I can find a connection. Richards Grandparents were George and Mary (Banks) Ruston I have a list of their children but but not of any siblings from their children other than my own tree as of yet. Your Richard could be a grandchild of George and Marys's from one of their other children.
I find it increaseing harder to find out information back in the 1700s it is very time consuming finding just a small scrape of information at best. But I will trudge onward.
The motto on the coat of arms of the Ruston Family is To Have Patience and Endure. That is what I am doing. The Ruston name goes back to 1260 so I have another 500 years to search and then after that it would have been pernounced I.E. Philip de Ruston I found that name in 1146 records which is a Norman(French) way of pernouncing a sir name. Wish me luck!!!

I have a Richard Ruston born 1808 When his three brothers George, James and Robert(my dad's Great great grandfather) came to Canada in early 1830's he left for America (USA) to seek his fortune.I haven't any other information other than that. The first five names you have as children are numeriously spread thoughtout my family tree though different generations. Do you have any information as to who Richards parents where back in England(UK) that would help to lock things down. It would be nice to find out your Richard Ruston and mine are the same. I would love that. Back 25 year ago I had someone call me from the United States of America saying he had traced the faily tree and that we were related though the family tree. I was not interested at the time being a very young man and now I wish I had and regrete it dearly. It is sad for me as I regreat my actions now.
Reguards Bryan Ruston

Three brothers were Robert ( my ancestor), James and George. I was not able to find our what the other brothers name was so it could have been Norman. Norman shows up in the family tree as a brother.

Hello Patricia, I know you posted this msg a long time ago, but I have only just stumbled upon it!
Your g grandfather Robert is my g g g uncle. I have got a huge amount of information from someone I tracked down on another genealogy website. Given that this message is pretty old, you might have tracked him down yourself by now! But he has managed to trace the Rustons back to 1758 (with your g g g g grandfather!)
This is my very first post on this website, so am being cautious in my wording, as I am not too familiar with the etiquette around here yet! But feel free to PM me if you haven't got any more information since you posted this message all those years ago - I would love to hear from you, I didn't know I had relatives in Australia, how exciting! Best wishes, Jo

Thanks for the reply.
I am really trying to get back beyond William. Per the 1851 census, William is recorded as being born in "Ruley" (have see the atual hand written census) but I am unaware of such a place in Yorkshire and the Census takers usually noted if a place was not in Yorkshire. His wife Hannah is local being from Dunswell, next door to Woodmansey.
In 1901, Hannah Abbott (aged 81) is living with Thomas and Annie in Beverley. I do not hae a John in my notes, the only siblings that I have for Hannah Abbott (Nee Ruston) are Sarah (chr 27/8/1815), Thomas (chr 16/3/1818), Eliza (chr 21/8/1825), Easter (chr 14/4/1823) and Ann (chr 8/3/1828). All are christened at St John & St Martin parish, Beverley (chapels of ease to the Minster). Unplanned pregnancies seemed to be common in this family as in 1851 William (aged 67) and Hannah (aged 60) had Eliza (daughter aged 24) and Thomas (grandson aged 2 - agricultural labourer's son) living with them! Please do let me have details of John and your thoughts on Ruley/Ruby.

I have the Thomas Ruston details. I have his mother as Hannah. His grandparents I think would be William b. 1786 Ruby, Yorkshire and Hannah b. 1796.
In 1871 Census Thomas is shown as a stepson - mother Hannah Abbott - Cooper's wife.
I am related back to John, one of Hannah's brothers.
Family members - John, Eliza, Mary and William Moor Ruston.
I have Tom (the Beverley one) & Annie from 1881 Census and family.

Hi Susan,

According to the 1912 obituary for Robert Ruston (a son of Edward), the family traveled by ship to New Orleans and then took a steamer up the Mississippi and Ohio rivers to Evansville. It says that they landed there on Christmas Eve, 1849, which is different than the date you have. Wonder which is correct?

Lori Cates Hand
