I have:
William Ryals b. 1651 Dorchester, Suffolk Mass. d. 7 nov 1724 same
m. abt 1674 same
Mrs. Wm. Ryals b. 1654 same d. ???
ch:
1. Isacke Ryals b. 1675 same chr. 28 Oct 1677 same
2. Waitsill " b. abt 1677 same d. 29 Nov 1732

Isacke Ryals m. Waitsill Spurr abt 1681 which cannot be right, as he would have been 6 yrs old. So rest of his line is iffy, & I think actually belongs to his father, as dates match. However, could belong to another family. Do you have anything on that?

From there I have:
Joseph Ryals chr. 19 May 1695 Dorchester, Suffolk, Mass. d. ? Johnston Co, NC
m. ?
son. Joseph Ryals b. 1717 same d. 1781 same
m. abt 1742 same
Sarah ??? b. 1721 d. 1789, Johnston, NC
I have 12 children, but my Isom b. 1770 is 13 yrs after other child, & mother would have been 49, so I may be missing a generation.

Your William A. Ryals who md Edith Childs was b. 1 FEb 1748 & d. 1 Feb 1828 Montgomery Co, GA. Edith b. 1765 NC d. 1835 Montgomery, GA
9 ch.
I don't know who you desc from there.

I would love to get this straightened out, but haven't found anything more.

I'd be glad to exchange gedcom files with you on the Ryals lines.

There is their son Isom b. 1749 Johnston, NC e. 3 Nov 1829 Randolph Co, MO, which is same death date I have for "my" Isom d. 1770, same place, so they may be the same person. Like I say, I haven't been able to get it straight. The Isom b. 1748 could have had 'my' Isom in 1770???? I don't have a child ISOM for Wm. A & Edith Childs.
I would especially like to get the Cherokee line, as I have heard stories, but no proof. This is my Dad's line, & he was orphaned @ age 8 & just shifted around, living with whoever would take him in for room & board for his work [actually, more like his slavery!] Anyway, he knew nothing abt his family until he & my Mom started looking in 1940's. He was b. 1917. There is also Cherokee blood in his DRYE/DRY line---his mother's line.

I'd really like to exchange gedcom files with you.
My email is:

ktob41@gmail.com

Kathy

Supposedly, I descend from Isom and then, William, who married Edith Childs .... down through William F. Ryals, Everton AR, and his son Charles Campbell Ryals .... then through William McKinley Ryals, Welling, OK (Tahlequah) .... then my father, John Nicholas Ryals (d: Tulsa) (b. Gideon, OK). My grandmother was 'Jessie (Ryals) Givens (2nd husband). Many Ryals are buried in Blue Starr Cemetary, Tahlequah, OK.. The one under the big tree is my infant baby uncle. Dad used to keep fresh plaques on that tree for ('BABY RYALS'). I have Cherokee in dad's Ryals line back to 1752. Only military info I have is that Charles Campbell Ryals and his brother were in the Civil War (Chas. for the Union and Austin the Confederacy. Another grandfather named William Guilliams in the Confederate Army in the 2nd Mounted Volunteers (Adair's group). He died at Frozen Creek on the Arkansas River - close to Fort Smith. My line includes Caleb Starr of Starr Mountain and Nancy Ward of Cherokee fame (has a DAR monument in Tenn.) I can trace the Cherokees back to Chief Moytoy. No .... hahahaha .... there was NOT one single 'Cherokee Princess' on my blood line (since there was never such a title). Nancy Ward was the head of the women's council, though. She died at Woman's Killer Fiord in Tenn. in her cabin. My older sister has an extensive genealogy, but won't share it with me (we had a family disagreement). I'm trying to find out more through my cousin. There are a great deal of distant cousins who were infamous horse thieves, outlaws, bank robbers, murderers, knew and rode with Confederate guerillas and Jesse James, Bell Starr, and the first bank robber to rob two banks at once in an automobile (Henry Starr). Tom Starr (see Wikipedia) went to 'WAR' with the Cherokee Nation in OK (his own nation) over the assassination of his father for supporting the 'Treaty Party'. The Cherokees eventually dropped the 'blood feud death warrants against the Starrs - the only time that nation had sued an individual for peace. He was a prolific killer of the Cherokee assassins. He associated with the likes of Ned Christie, Bluford (Blue) Duck, Cherokee Bill, and others. Like the others, he was an 'outlaw'. The more I know, the other side of my family history was MUCH more interesting. LOL I'm interested in the more sedate DIRECT ANCESTORS in MY line.

I'm descended from Isom Ryals, son of Joseph Ryals. I also have a William F. Ryals (Billy) (AR), Charles Campbell Ryals (AR), and a William McKinley Ryals (OK) (my grandfather) in my direct lineage. I'm trying to fill in all of the gaps, and to trace my roots from where they got off of the boat, the ship's name, passenger lists, any civil war/revolutionary war records, DAR records, and european roots. What a mess. LOL

My GGGgrandfather was Essex Ryals who married Susie Mary McCray(McRae in census) I was told that his parents were Frank and Katie Ryals, but I have yet to find proof of that. I believe that I may have found him in the 1880 census in the house with others as a border, and he was listed as a laborer.
I know nothing of him, and would love to know more.

I am a descendant, of their son Maxie Ryals, my mother's father.
Any help would be appreciated.

Eline Ryals

I have come across a birth record index of a person born on January 10th, 1918 with the last name Ryals (no first name listed) in Asheville, North Carolina (Buncombe County). The parent's name is Eline Ryals (the fathers'names seem to be listed as a parent in the index, but this name seems like it would be a woman's). My adopted grandfather shows up in the 1920 census record with the last name Ryals and his last name was later changed once he was adopted by the family he was living with in 1920. He was born in January of 1918, supposedly in Asheville, NC. Could this be his birth parent?

Does anyone out there know any information about Eline Ryals? Does this story sound familiar? I appreciate any help or advice. Thanks very much!

Hardy Ryals, Alabama

I found a record of Hardy Ryals marrying Adaline Baker in Jan 1840 in Montgomery Co., AL. The 1840 Montgomery Co., AL census shows he was born 1800 to 1810. His wife was born 1810 to 1820. This makes her the right age for Aldalen Ryalds in 1850 Marion Co., Ga with a Martin Baker in her household, age 74 and born in SC.

I'm looking for any information on the family. Hardy Ryals who married Adaline Baker in 1840 Montgomery Co., AL, Aldalen Ryalds, age 33, in 1850 Marion Co., Ga, or Martin Baker, age 74, in 1850 Marion Co., Ga. Others in the household in 1850 are William Ryalds age 9, Mary age 8, and John age 6. A Richard Baker is in 1850 Marion Co., GA with wife Nancy and children. He later moved to Dale Co., AL.

The theory which I am trying to prove or disprove is that the Martin Baker, b. abt 1776 in the 1850 Marion Co., Ga census is the Martin Baker in 1820 and 1830 Lexington Co., SC of about the same age. Also that the Richard Baker in 1830 Lexington Co., SC is his son. Richard's family is also in 1850 Marion Co., GA and 1840 Stewart Co., Ga. And that this Martin Baker is the father of Adaline Ryals (Aldalen Ryalds) in the 1850 Marion Co., Ga census since he is in her household.

I am also related to you guys. I am the son of Norman Preston Ryals Sr. I am Norman Preston Ryals Jr.(Espana) I live in California. Big Norman, as my family referred to him left us in 1967. We never saw him again. He left when my mother was pregnant with my younger brother Eric. I have big Norman's family bible, and it has his family history. And all of the names you mentioned are in it. Please e-mail me at normanespana@hotmail.com. I would also like to find my older half-sister named Rebecca Lynn Ryals Haece. She was born in 1956. I stumbled upon Tina's name a few years ago, and have been unsuccessful in finding her yet.

Hi,
My information matches yours except he moved to FL in 1837 and met and married Molly Gill in 1841. They were FL pioneers as FL did not become a state until 1843. The Gills were in FL in the 1920's and yes her mother's name is Mary from Allendale. Daniel died 8/23/1890 He and Molly were buried in secret because the indian would dig up white men's bodies and desecrate them. They were later moved to Geiger Cemetary. Rosemary W. Trottman wrote a book The History of Zephyrhills 1821-1921. She was actually my mother's teacher. She was also a pioneer. She shed's lost of light on life as a pioneer in Florida. I just wish we could find info on Daniel's parents and siblings.

Dear Tina,
I am related to you. My mother is your father's half sister. My mother's father is William Joseph Ryals (also your grandfather) born 1897. He had three children in Mississippi with my grandmother, Zephenia Robinson Ryals: my aunt Cleo Laverne, my uncle William Joseph Ryals Jr. and my mother, Zephenia Lou Eloy Ryals was the baby. After he divorced my grandmother, (or most likely she divorced him),he moved to Texas and married your grandmother, Edna Lottie Moore Ryals. In 1935, they had your father, Norman Preston Ryals. My mother said that your grandmother died first but that our grandfather died in 1972 and is buried in Houston at the National Cemetery. Edna and our grandfather owned a little store in Houston on Blue Bell and that at one point they lived on Harrisburg in Houston (which is over by the ship channel). Our grandfather was not a faithful marriage partner. He cheated on my grandmother and at one point was even put on the p-farm jail for polygamy. The other woman put him in and my grandmother got him out. Why she did that - I don't know. I guess she had a soft spot for him. He was always coming home when he was out of money but staying gone most of the time.
I met you once - in the 1970s at my parents' home here in Texas. Feel free to write me. My email is jewelawood@yahoo.com.
Wow. It's taken me almost eight years to see your post.
I really hope you see this.
Julie

So I have to first find Gus T Gay's parents and siblings.......

I belive that Gus T Gay may be the Augustus Theo Gay who registered for the WWI draft in Dodge County; dob Oct 13, 1896 in Cadwell, Ga.
On his registration he lists that he is employed by J D Gay; Plainfield. William Arthur Gay also registered in Dodge County and list J D Gay of Plainfield as father. William Arthur's dob is listed as Sept 1, 1900.

Jacob Daniel Gay married Lillie Kent in Laurens; this appears to be the family:
1900 Laurens Cty Ga; Rudy Springs (counted June 23, 1900)
293 293 Gay, Jake, May 1870 30, married 4 yers
Edie wife, Jan 1872 28; 2 births 2 living
Joe, son Mar 18946
Arthur, son 1899 1
(ages are off, but that's not unusal, and Edie would have been first wife)
1910 Pierce Cty Ga
71 71 Gay, Jacob D 39, second marriage, married 6 yrs
Lilly wife 25, 2 births 2 living
Gus, son 14
Arthur son, 10
General, son 5
Waver, son 2
Kent Birdie, sister in law 19

1920 Pierce
20 20 GAy, Jacob D 53
Lillie wife 34
General 14
Wava, son 11
Richard son 8
Bela, son 6
William son 3 4/12
Pauline dau l
1930 Dodge County, Jones Dist
246 253 Gay, Jacob D 64, first married at age 21
Lillie, wife, 48, first married at age 20
Waver, son 20
Beeler, son 17
William,son, 13
Pauline dau 11

Jacob D Gay and Lillie G Kent Gay are buried at Bay Springs Free Will Baptist Church in Dodge County.
Jacob D Gay, June 15, 1854 (this has to be a typo)-Jan 12, 1949: Lillie Nov 12, 1883-Oct 8, 1931.

Side note: Your Nina Ryals would be my 1c2r.
Dear Ms. Wood,
I was quite interested in your post. My father was John Wesley Pelham. Lynnwood Vincent Pelham was my half brother. Am I correct in thinking that perhaps Viola had an Indian grandmother or was she Indian herself? Since Lynn and his wife Velma have both passed away, it is more difficult for me to learn more history. However, Lynn has several living offspring who might be of asistance and if I can contact my step-brother, Lynn's half-brother, Billy Eugene Ryals, he might be of assistance. I'd be interested in any information you have, as well. Thanks. Sincerely, Charese Pelham

My great grandmother, Mary Julia 'Mollie" Gill, was from Georgia and Florida. She married Elisha Columbus "Lum" Childs of Hartford (Geneva County), Alabama and moved back tot hat area and raised a very large family.

I have always heard that her parents were Emily (Roberts) Gill and Henry G. or J. Gill and that Mary Julia's probably Roberts family was from Dooly County, Georgia.

I find her in her parents household in Lee County, Georgia; but, then... she marries in LaFayette County, Georgia and goes back to Alabama. I dont' know much of anything about her Gill family. Her father probably died about 1870 and her mother, Emily Gill may have moved tot he Wakulla County or Alachua County, Florida area.

Please meail me privately if you think we have any like information we can share.

Reminder@comcast.net

My g-grandmother is Nina Lorine Ryals Gay born to William Ruebin Ryals and Mary Jane Elizabeth Gladden. Nina married William Arthur Gay - together they had 15 children and raised them all on farms located in Wheeler, Dodge, and Jeff Davis counties. If Nina is one of the Ryals that you are searching for I have plenty of information on her.
