I'm trying to trace the Sabatino's in Italy, I know Giuseppe Angelo Sabatino came to the US around 1899 and his parents were Francesco Paolo Sabatino(1860? - ) and Sylvatrice Pinzino from Palmareo, Scilicy. The family in America settled in New Jersey in the early 1900's.

I am doing some research for Jay Sabatine, his grandparents are all from the Roseto area of PA and the RvF area in Italy.
His paternal grandparents are Michael Sabatno and wife Lucy Roco and maternal side Matthew Sabatno and wife Josephine Makowski (or sky). I found census records from 1920 and 1930 saying his great grandfather Phillip/Filipo came to the US in 1887 but have not found his arrival record.

any help appreciated.

Hi Greg, I checked the Ellis Island records and it says that his last residence was listed as tasanta pelegria Italy... he boarded the luisiana and arrived at ellis island in 1911 at the age of 15... the age sounds right so I am sure this is him... I googled tasanta pelegria and nothing comes up ! could it be taranto ? My grandmother's name was Neva (Moore), My grandfather owned Carl's Barber shop, located in akron ohio. He lived there until he passed away in the early 60's. I'm not sure when he moved to akron... I know that My dad john was born in 1943 and he's the youngest. The oldest brother was Carl Jr and they also had a half brother Albert, which means my grandfather was married before Neva. I don't know anything about his first wife ! It's been a long time since my last post, but thought I would add this just in case !

Hi Ro,
Palermo is down next to Sicily. Roseto Valforore is near the East coast of Italy across from Naples. I have found Palermo Sabatinos, but I have never found any connection between those family lines and those I have researched from Roseto. I did a quick search and only found the following info on Palermo Sabatino families. Thats good news and bad news. If there aren't many Sabatinos in Palermo, it probably means you are related to most if not all of them you come across. Atleast that has been my experience in most cases. On the off chance that any of this info that I came across matches with what you have, I figured I'd post. One additional thing to note: Old Italian families were famous for following naming patterns in naming their children. I would venture a guess from the data below that Calogero and Santo were brothers and their Father or Mother were probably Domenico or Domenica. The best of luck in your search.

Greg

Calogero Sabatino - Carmela Ippolito (spouse)
-Domenico Sabatino (child) (1834 Bompietro, Palermo, Italy )

Santo Sabatino - Maria Albanese (spouse)
-Domenica Sabatino (child) (1839 Bompietro, Palermo, Italy )
Additional information below:

I am looking for information on my great great grandparents Luigi (Louis) & Angiola or Angelina (Zuccaro (maiden) Sasso or information on any of their children.

Louis came to the US in 1900 and Angiola followed in 1903 with 4 of her children, Modestino (Michael), Maria (Mary), Addolorata (Dolores) & Luigi, Jr. (louis). They resided in Port Reading, Middlesex County, NJ and later had 2 more children Anna Sasso born in 1906 and Giorgetto (Georgie) Sasso born in 1907.

Louis, Sr.'s Uncle was Raffaele D'Alessio who also lived in Port Reading, NJ. I know that Dolores later married but I am unsure of how many times. In 1936 her name was Dolores Sabatino Zullo.
Hi Kelley,
I don't have a Carlo Sabatino in my database, but we may be able to dig something up. I found 4 Carlo Sabatinos in ellisislandrecords.org, but none of them came from the Puglia region where Foggia is located. I also checked familysearch.org, but came up with only SSDI entries (one of those may be him).

Can you tell me any more about him? Did he live out the rest of his years in Roseto, PA or move elsewhere? About when was he born? About when did he pass away? Do you know anything about your Grandmother? Sometimes you can find your ancestors in marriage records. If you can answer any of these questions, we might be able to narrow the search in some of the online databases.

Happy to help if I can. Fill me in with what you can and I'll see what I can dig up.

Greg

Hi Greg,
The Ohio Sabatino line that comes down from Matteo Donato and Rosa starts with Fausto, their 2nd child born 27 Mar 1831. He stayed in Roseto ValFortore as did his son, Matteo (born 8 Oct 1857) who married Celeste Cascioli there. They had 7 children, one of whom I know moved to Youngstown, Ohio. His name was Michele Sabatino (born 25 Dec 1902). I don't know Michele's wife's name, but they had atleast two children (Matthew and Celeste).

I'm pretty sure there are some other branches of the family that moved there too (yours I assume if the folks I mentioned aren't in your ancestral line).

Some good news since my post that you replied to. We found the parents of Matteo Donato Sabatino and Rosa Menecola. I listed them below for your reference.

Good luck,

Greg

Parents of Matteo Donato Sabatino:
Fausto Sabatino & Antonia Di Iorio

Parents of Rosa Menecola:
Filipo Menecola & Maria Finelli

This wouldn't by any chance be the same Teodora Falcone you mention would it? She was one of six (seven actually, but one died around birth as was common in those days).

Greg

Tina,
Also, in addition to Lynda's suggestion, where is your father from? Alot of times, it is easier to pin down where your ancestry came from by going backwards on the migration patterns. For example, Lynda mentioned ancestry from Roseto ValFortore, Italy. Typically, Italians and namely Sabatinos from that region migrated to Argentina, Canada, Ohio, or Pennsylvania. Good luck!

Greg

One mpre thing. You might want to try checking the Social Security Death records on familysearch.com. It will help you pinpoint his exact birthdate and full name if you don't have that info which can then be used to check migration or town of birth records. If he took a boat over to the US, you might want to plug his name into www.ellisislandrecords.com and see what comes up.
