I know now that the gentleman is George W. Sabin(s). I found their marriage record in Indiana, though their surname spellings are interesting:

Name: Margaret Godin
Spouse Name: George W Scavins
Marriage Date: 18 Jan 1853
Marriage County: Putnam

Each time I search for this man, I keep ending back to Thomas L. Sabin and Priscilla Evans as his parents; but their son George W. is listed only as marrying Mary Chandler. Their first son George was born in 1865 in IN. George W. did serve in the Civil War and I wonder if it is possible he just could not find "his family" (my ancestors) because they had moved on to Iowa and started another family.

Maria Sabin(s)

I am following up on a possible clue to my gr-gr-grandmother. Information from greatgrandfather Mahlon Baldridge stated that his father-in-law was Nelson A. Thomas, born in New York and moved west to Illinois (Napierville, Du Page County) prior to 1839 when my greatgrandmother Ellen Losette Thomas was born. His wife is simply named Maria, no maiden name given. I have been able to track the family through the census and other family sources but have not been able to go any further back until I found a Pedigree Resource File with the family included that gave Maria's name as Maria Sabins, born 1809 in Attica, Genessee County, NY, marrying Nelson Abial Thomas in 1830 also in Attica. I have tried contacting the person who submitted the genealogy but have not received any reply. If any of this is familiar, I would appreciate hearing about this side of the family. Will be happy to provide any information I have on the rest of the family.

Ken Culverson

Hi Diane, I'm Laurel's niece doing some research for her. You probably already have this information by now, but just in case. Myron C. Sabins is Laurel's grandfather. He was the brother to Charles R. Sabins who first was married to Elizabeth Buris on April 14, 1867 in Grant Co., WI. Per the 1880 Grant Co., WI cencus Charles & Elizabeth had two sons. Ellsworth "Milo" aged 9 and George, aged 4. Is the George, son of Charles R. your ancestor? Per Grant Co., WI marriages, George Sabins m. Maggie Smith, June 17, 1897. I see you were also corresponding with a Thomas Green who traced to the George who was Myron & Charles' brother. That George married Emma Hicks. Would look forward to hearing from as would my Aunt. She's no longer on e-mail. Elaine Rumler, elaine46@tds.net

Hello....I am Eugene's daughter. I don't know if I can really be of any help to you right now, as I just started to research my roots. In fact, my dad didn't even know his grandparents first names. I cannot believe how much information you have gathered and it is incredibly helpful to me. I would really love to chat with you.
