Judie,

Here's a URL for the village. It had 295 people in the 2001 Census.

http://lt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Purv%C4%97nai_(Ma%C5%BEeikiai)

You might just want to send a letter to all the Sadauskas/Sadauskiene/Sadauskaite listing in the Lithuanian White pages for that region and see if you get a response.

I did that for the Paulauskas surname and got several responses including one good lead.

Tom S.

Tom,

Yes. It was Leonard. It's funny that in a village that small we couldn't find a connection. I've also searched on Facebook to find the name in that area but so far nobody is related. I'm told my grandmother was one of 11 but again, can't find any connections.

Judie

Judie,

You must have made contact with Leonard whose a friend of mine.

He and I compared notes a while back and decided that any connection between our Sadauskas lines was many, many generations ago.

My line came from the area between Kaunas and Jonava which is much further south than the area where Purvenai is located.

Tom S.

I have a grandmother Cecelijia Sadauskaite arriving at Ellis Island in 1922. Her paperwork says she was from Purvenai, from what I gather it's the Purvenai near the Latvian border.

I made contact with a Sadauskas in the DC area a few years ago who was also from that village, but we couldn't find a concrete connection. (Our great grandfathers may have been brothers.)

Th eonly other thing I know about Cecelijia is her father was named Francesko or Frank. Mother was Anna Rimkus.

Anyone?

I am searching for information regarding the parents of John and August. The parents do not appear on the 1930 census and so I was unable to identify them. I would be interesed in finding out their names and the name of the city they came from in Lithuania. Any information you are able to share would be appreciated. Thank you.

My grandfather, Clemens (Klemensas, Clemensas, or Clementas), came to USA around 1913. I don't have a primary source to prove he was born in Kaunas Lithuania at this point. I have not been able to find him arriving at Ellis Island as yet. He died 1952 and is interred in St. Casimir's Cemetery.
He settled in Chicago Cook Illinois and older brothers were Charles, Alex, Peter; younger brothers were Frank and Stanley. Don't have any information as to possible Uncles, Aunts and/or cousins already in USA prior to his arrival.

My fater-in-law was Bill Mikol Sadowski (changed when he came here). he said he had an uncle here, somewhere on the east coast. I have copies of birth cert. and citizenship papers. Birth sert is in Lithuanian so I can't read it. Citizenship has his name same as above. Name should be something like
Boleslovas Sadauskas dob 10 Oct 1895 he married Sophia E, Mithchell 10 June 1923.
If any of this sounds familar please contact Sue at
ssado42358@aol.com
Thanks

My Sadauskas line originates in the Karmelava and Jonava areas.

Karmelava is a few miles NE of Kaunas on the way to Jonava. My great-grandfather (Jurgis Sadauskas/Jerzy Sadowski) was born in Karmelava in 1862.

He later moved to a small farmstead SE of Jonava. He was married three times and had several children.

Have you found Clermens in the Ellis Island Database? Where does it say he's from?

Kaunas would likely refers to the Russian province/gubernia rather than to the city of Kaunas.

Look forward to exchanging information.
