Looking for direct fem desc of Elizabeth Lewis / Mrs. David Sailor

We're looking for a direct female-line descendent of Elizabeth LEWIS/Mrs. Daniel L. Sailor.

Elizabeth was the daughter of Christiana Christie/ Mrs. Abraham Lewis (abt 1785-1860). And grand-dau. of Sarah/Sally/Mrs.James Christie (1762-1844).

The line MUST go from Elizabeth Lewis to her daughter, to the daughter' dau, etc.

Myself, and three other descendents of Sarah and James Christie, are interested in doing a Mt-DNA test via Family Tree DNA (FTDNA.com). WE WILL PAY THE TESTING FEES. It involves brushing the inside of one's cheek with a special brush/kit from FTDNA.

The documented line must be ONLY mother to dau. so please double check the line by looking at it from both directions, i.e. from Sarah down to the present and then from the present up to Sarah.

We can test a male but only if it's his mother who is in the direct line (not his grandmother).

We admit to being insatiably curious - we want to see if there's an validity to the persistent family story that Sarah was the daughter of an Indian Chief; we'd like to see if we match with anyone who can actually prove that Sarah's name was Lemon/Lemmon, and we'd like to find out where Sarah sits on the World's Haplotree and what the ancient migration was of her direct female line.

In your reply please put the names of those in your direct line but leave out the names of those who are living (just put in the relationship).

I will post a reply via this board.

Thank you. Lucy McCoy P.S. My family tree is posted on Rootsweb.com, database named ogm

Richard H. Nickey, Bessie McCarty, & Jane Sailor family; need assistance.

Hello,

Richard H. Nickey was born about 1 Jan. 1877 in Carlisle, Cumberland Co., PA. His parents are Cyrus Nickey (b. about 1847) and Margaret Gill (b. about 1849) in Franklin Twp. and Silver Springs Twp., Cumberland Co., PA. Richard married Bessie McCarty on 16 Nov 1897 (Cumberland Co. Marriage Records). They had at least two daughters, Esther (b. about 1898) and Ida (b. about 1904) both in Cumberland Co. (1910 and 1920 U.S. Census). Richard married a second time Jane (Jennie) Soldier/Weir about 1922 (1930 U.S. Census). Richard moved to Philadelphia, PA after the 1910 Census and before 1917/18 (WWI Civilian Draft Registration). Sometime after the 1930 Census he and his wife apparently moved to Clarksboro, New Jersey.

Problems:
(1) Richard died about Feb. 1937 in Clarksboro, New Jersey (un-sourced Internet Gill Family). Did Richard and Bessie divorce, if so when?
(2) The 1930 U.S. Census shows Bessie as a widow living with daughter Ida in Philadelphia. Is Richard's death information wrong or is Bessie's widow information wrong?
(3) Richard's second wife's given name is Jane S. in the 1930 Census of Philadelphia. It states that she was 45 years old when first married; could this be correct? Both are buried in Eglington Cemetery, Clarksboro, New Jersey.
(4) The Gill Internet information states her father is Washington Sailor and her mother is Anna C. Warner. It also states her daughter is Jane S. Weir. The U.S. Census for 1880, 1900, and possibility 1910 have a Jennie C. Sailor living together with her parents in Philadelphia. Is this Jennie and Jane the same individual?
(5) If they are the same when did she marry or change her surname to Weir? If she did marry before 1922, who, when and how did it end?
(6) Finally, whom, if at all, did the daughters Esther and Ida Nickey marry?

Help, the information I have is inconsistent. Any new information or corrections on Richard H Nickey's family would be very helpful and greatly appreciated. Thank you for your assistance.

Best wishes, Bradley (Brad) Baer Nickey
Was wondering if you found out anything on your query here. I descend from this Saylor family. I did find Katie Farnsworth and her husband in either 1900 or 1910 census down in Cincinnati. (I am also in Ohio). And I think she relocated to a more northern county later. She had one son with the Farnsworth husband.

But if by chance you see this reply please Email me at msmitsubeeshie22@hotmail.com I would like to discover more about the Sailor family line.
I think that I may have some realation to the Sailor's. Clarence Earl Sailor married Ethel Marie (Harshman) Sailor. I do know that some of Clarence's siblings were: Oliver, Frank, Burt, Laura,John, and I think Addie and Elmur. I do not have dates of birth or death. I mostly just have names and who they married and their children's names. Clarence and Ethel did have children: Treva (my great aunt I think) Donald, and Bonnie.

Would love to find someone researching Baptiste and George Fred.

Anton was an indentured servant in Pa. for a number of years before coming to New Orleans where he and his descendants remained in Louisiana until today (for the most part).

The variations in spelling make it difficult to search this name.

I found Anton and the indenture in a book at the library. I found this before I found the ship listing so I must go back and find that book and see if the brothers might not be in there also. Garnier performed the wedding ceremony according to the rites of the Roman Catholic church Wednesday of last week for Joseph Sailor and Miss Polly Cadotte and a wedding party and midnight supper were held at the residence of the parents of the groom Monday. The wedding presents were exhibited to admiring friends and to say there was a feast is putting it mild. There was a super abundance of good things to eat and to drink too. Everybody was invited and nearly everybody went. Isaac Cadotte the "chief" of Drummon, is to be congratulaed on having secured one of th "elite" as a son-in-law and "Princess" Polly for having secured one of our finest young man.

I am not related to this family, just passing on this information which comes from a website called "Sault Ste.
Hi Irene,

I am very interested in the information you have. I haven't looked at my Sailor family information for quite a while and don't remember who John and Caroline are or how they connect to Edward.

I'm just happy to have the help. I have learned many things about my extended family from researchers who are researching their own families a see a connection.

With all the changes made at Rootsweb in the past months. I didn't realize that my e-mail address was no longer available. It should be now, if any one can actually figure out how to find it.

I found your e-mail address on another message and will contact you privately. If you wish to share some of the information on the maessage board, I don't mind. Maybe someone else will recognize it and be able to add to it.

Time to go digging in my research files.

Thank you,
Marilyn
CT
mjm061-mjmoser24@yahoo.com

I am trying to find out if this John Hutchison is the John Hutchison who was the son of William Hutchison (1757-1825).
Homer G. Sailor born 1887 Akron Ohio can you lookup?

My grandfather Homer Grant Sailor was born in 1887 in or around Akron Ohio and moved to Chicago as a young man. B. 01 OCT 1887 Died MAR 1968
His Father was Shelly Abrams (spelling?) His mother's name was Alice Snyder (spelling ?) and was supposedly born in Germany. Alice died at about 100 in Chicago I guess - she raised my father mostly (Homer Grant, Jr.) Homer Sr. was an accomplished Architect and built many homes in the chicago area in the "prarie style". worked with Louis Sulivan and Frank Loyd Wright. Homer was also involved in state politics in Chicago as an alderman in Chicago and assistant state treasurer I think.
I haven't had any luck getting confirmation on his parents to go back further they were from PA originally, OH, them Il. know there are several lines of Sailors - As far as I know it was always spelled this way

He had many siblings. What I can remember were Charles, Frank, Georgina, Cora, others I am not sure of.

I'm a real novice at this so I'd sure appreciate any info you or anyone else might have on these names.

I have been researching the Sailor family and I am interested in any information I can find on the Sailors. What information I have before Thomas and Rebecca is sperious at best as I dont have documentation to back it up. My Great Grandfather was Thomas's son, William and I have quite a bit on William and his wife Sarah and her family and I know they were from Sailor Springs. I even have some photographs from that time, but as far as liniage I have William and Hannah Sewell as Thomas's parents and thats where it ends. I have heard family stories about the Sailors running and underground railroad station but have not found anything to back that up. Anything you have to document the Sailors/Rices/Sewells or Sailor Springs would be greatly appriciated and I am more then willing to share what I have in return.

I found a Jeremiah Sailor, age 76, and a Christina Sailor, age 74. in the 1850 census for Union Township, Pike County. Ohio. Also founnd the families of Joseph (43 . B. OH) and Sarah (37, b. VA); John (32, b. Ohio) and Barbary (30, Germany); Aaron (32. b.Oh) and Elizabeth (27, b. VA); and John (42. b. OH) and Catherine (33, b. OH).

Is this your Jeremiah?
Jeremiah Sailor, Sr. was named as one of the excutors of the will of my greatgreatgrandfather, John Ruckman (also of Pike County) and signed as one of the witnesses.

Do you know how these families are related?

The Sailor in whom I am really interested is Edward Sailor, the son of John and Catherine Sailor. In the early 1850's, he married Sophia Ruckman, a daughter of John Ruckman and the sister of my greatgrandmother.

Thank you,

Marilyn
CT

Thank you for helping me connect to Jeremiah. My Ruckman ancestors came to Ohio from the same part of Virginina. My gggrandfather was born in New Jersey, and the family migrated to Virginia when he was a child. My gggrandmother, Polly, was born in Virginia.

I just posted the 1850 Pike County CEnsus for all the sailors living there on The Rootsweb Sailor mailing list. It can be found in the list archives. The census data came from the Ohio Genweb, so it is possible there could a transcription error or misinterpretation.

That list has been dormant for a long time, but it is coming to life again. In March 2002, I also posted some marriage dates taken from the PIke County Genweb site.I've just reorganized them, and will be posting them again. I found information on that site that identified 10 of Jeremiah's children, their spouses, and the marriage dates as well as other Sailor marriages.

The Sailor that interests me is Edward W. Sailor. According to information I received from someone else, he is the son of John William Sailor and Caroline Lawrence. In 1852, Edward married Sophia Ruckman, daughter of John and Polly Ford Pemberton Ruckman. Sophia is one of my greatgrandmother's (Mary Ruckman, w. of Osiah Moser) sisters. I have been tracing alll of Mary's siblings. Sophia is the only sister left to do, and I'm still looking for the death record of a brother Adam who is supposed to have died in 1859. Everyone else has been found and accounted for. I even found a cemetary record for their mother, Polly F. Ruckman, in Iowa. Any help you, or anyone else who reads this, can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Marilyn
CT

Southeast Ohio SAILOR Marriages; 1850 Pike County Census

I just posted a long list of Sailor (and various spellings)marriages on the Rootsweb SAILOR mailing list. It's been very quiet for a long time, but is starting to show some signs of life. To find them, look in the list archives. Threaded archives would be the easiest. Go to http://archiver.rootsweb.com Enter SAILOR for the name of the list; then click on January 2003. They won't be hard to find

Included in the list of marriages are many of the children of Jeremiah Sailor and Christina Kimball. And some of their grandchildren too.

Also posted recently, the 1850 census fo Sailors in Pike county. Primarily Jeremiah Sailor and Christina Kimball and the families of their children.

Good Luck. Hope you find something you need.

Marilyn
CT

Thomas Sailor of Sailor Springs

Does anyone have any information or photos of Thomas and Rebecca Sailor of Sailor Springs Illinois? I am trying to compile a family scapbok of the Sailors and while I have plenty of William and Sarah after they arrived in Oregon, I dont have much of before. I do have several unidentified very Old pictures, some tin types, but most of the people here that could have identified them have passed on. I would be willing to share what I have if there is anyone out there who might be willing to share.

Sailor/Saylor from Russell, Va. - Rare Blood Type??

My grandfather Charles William Saylor (son of William Saylor, grandson of Louis/Lewis) carries the rarest of all blood types, AB negative, I believe. I was just curious if this came from his mother's side or from the Sailor/Saylor side. He's really not sure which parent he got it from. Just wondering if anyone else had this too!

Adaline Henritze Sailor/Saylor

I have done some work on this side now and am piecing it all together for the Henritze side of Louis/Lewis Sailor's descendents. It took me a while since I seem to keep getting sidetracked by all the other branches in my family tree, you know how it goes! I had to fool around with the spelling of her name a good bit to get some results (Adline, Adaline, Adeline). This helped a lot. I have her people going back pretty far and plan on looking for more later too. Anyone interested, drop me a line! Rashel Braun,
gr.gr. granddaughter of
William A. Saylor/Sailor

Sailors/Saylors Photos & Pictures

Hello, I am wondering if anyone has pictures/photos of the Sailors' they would like to share? I am particulary interested in the older photos. My line is as follows: Abram Sailors, John Sailors (SC), Michael Sailors, William D. Sailors, Frank Sailors, Dora S. Sailors, Roy T. Sailors, Bruce Vincent Sailors, Judy Ann Sailors (my Mother). Also, for anyone updating their Sailors information: I have quite a bit from Dora down. Also, an important note-Dora S. Sailors is listed as a Female/Daughter on the 1880 Census and it is incorrect. He was definately a Male!! Anyone interested in sharing information, please e-mail me!!
Dana Bowie
