There may be a connection to your Sainsbury's.

Hello, Meldave, how lovely to hear from you! I have virtually no knowledge of the occupations of my great grandparents, Edwin and Edith Amelia Sainsbury. I do know that they lived in Portswood in Southampton, and that's about it! Edwin's brother, Isaac, fought in the first world war in the Royal Engineers (my own grandfather's regiment). Also, Isaac is grandfather of cricketer Peter Sainsbury. That's my regular claim to fame! I think it's very likely that the Southampton Sainsburys and the Breamore Sainsburys are linked. I must try and find out about some occupations, other than the army ones I already know about. Kind regards, Catherine.

I am interested in your comment about your Sainsbury relatives having names beginning with E. I am wondering if you are connected to my family as we have similar names in our line. My gt grandfather was Edmund, his father was Egbert who emigrated to New Zealand in 1861. There is an Edwin, Edgar, Walter, Edward, Ellen, Fanny, Martha, Mary. They were from Breamore Hampshire but I believe there were relatives in Southampton involved in the marine industry.

Researching the Tudor line and have a Lavinia Kate Tudor who married a Walter John Sainsbury, 1894 Barton Regis. They lived in the parish of Westbury on trym, and all their children were baptized there. One son, Marcus Clifford Sainsbury went to New York as part of BOAC, and remained there until his death. Could someone fill me in on some details about Walter and his immediate family, and would love to find out if there are any photos?

Hello, Jim. My Sainsbury relatives are through my mother, Janine. My Sainsburys are mainly Southampton-based, as far as I've been able to tell. The name Edwin seems to have been very popular along the male line - I've identified my great uncle Edwin, great grandfather Edwin, great great uncle Edwin, his son Edwin - so many Edwins! I am related to the cricketer Peter Sainsbury (the last Edwin mentioned is his father). My grandfather was Major Ernest George Sainsbury MBE (I'm very proud of him), and he had three brothers - Edwin, Walter and Arthur, and a sister, Rose Edith, who was known as Molly. My grandfather had an uncle Isaac, on whom I'm searching at the moment. Do any of these names ring any bells regarding your Sainsburys?

His parents are listed as John and Martha SANDSBURY living in North Street.
William's Father John's occupation is listed as an Iron Founder.
Do you have an actual copy of Selina's Birth Certificte?
Can you show me what you have so far in your SAINSBURY line so we can work it out the connection.
The John you had with Jane where does he fit in?
Is Selina SAINSBURY a connection for your lot of SAINSBURY'S?
TRISH J

Do you have any information about William SAINSBURY (or SANDSBURY, according to Selina's birth certificate of 14th Sept 1843) or his parents?

William was an iron moulder, as shown on Selina's birth certificate, and I believe that there might be a connection with my John SANDSBURY/SAINSBURY, who also was an iron founder in Taunton.
