Dear Patricia,
I am an art historian in the UK doing some research on Spain in the 15th century. I am trying to find out about Nuño López de Saldaña. He was a 'vecino de Sevilla' and a converso from Judaism to Catholicism. He worked for Alvaro de Luna in the 1420s and 1430s. Is this the same Nuño as your ancestor? If so, do you have any more information about him? I would like to know when and where he became a Catholic and what his Jewish name was before that? I am also interested in his son, Fernán López de Saldaña. Do you know anything about him? I would like to know whether there are any historical documents relating to either of them (or their wives).
Thank you for your help and Shalom!
Nicola Jennings

I am currently trying to find any information on my ggrandfather Anselmo Saldaña. From what I have been able to gather, he lived in El Carrezal, Jalisco (where my grandfather Juan Saldaña was born) and moved to work in the mines in Sta. Barbara, Chihuahua. I would like to continue this family search but have come to road block. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

I started my research on the Saldana's about a year ago and perhaps we can communicate over e-mail. This message board is public so I don't want to post my e-mail address here. I will send you a message to your message box.

Belinda

ORIGINAL ORIGIN OF SALDANA family name = KAZAKHSTAN

ORIGINAL ORIGIN OF SALDANA family name = KAZAKHSTAN. The name (from KAZAKHSTAN) meaning SA'L = YEAR; DANA = SEED. It is also recorded in the Ancient Persian Empire (before the Mongul invasions). SA'LDANA name was brought to Europe by the Roman Empire.. into Italy where it was written as SALDAGNA (like "lasagna"). The Roman Empire extended from Persia to Scotland and included Iberia (Spagna; which was transformed to "Espan~a" because the muslim Moors pronounce "S" with a short e in front of it "ES"). Catholic Monks transcribed everything in writing.. even Bible to Bible.. in doing so, in Spain, they opted to insert a little n over a large N for words with double N and later for words with GN (such as Saldagna). The little n turned into the tilde ~ and Saldagna in some Spanish-speaking countries was converted to "Saldan~a" (back to the almost original Kazakhstani "Sa'ldana"). In Mexico, there were some 11 Italian colonies (promised by the newly formed Mexican government with lucrative pay so they could go back to Italy wealthy.. that never occurred and many of the Italian colonists [including Saldagna families] were forever stranded in Mexico). Some in Mexico still spell their name Saldagna. ORIGINAL ORIGIN OF SALDANA family name = KAZAKHSTAN

Lino for sure worked with McNelly's Rangers his name is mentioned in a book that was written by William Neale. I believe that it was called Century Of Conflict. Keep in touch because I am sure that our Saldana's are connected.

The only person in our line is Jose Manuel Saldana who married Maria Teresa Galan in the Lampasos area. I have information coming forward from that person but I do not know who his parents were. I would appreciate any help you can provide. I do have a picture of his son Jose Lino Saladana.

I am related to the Saldana's through my great grandmother Maria Saldana who was a daughter of Petra and Sostenes. I noticed your post from 2002. I have some information on the family but don't know if you learned more since 2002. How are you related to the Saldana's?

Belinda
