Hi
I know you posted this in 2000 but I have only just seen it!
If you are still interested William Salisbury, who married Betsy Hand, was my 3rd cousin 5 times removed.I was born in England now living in France.
Joseph Morris Salisbury was born in Birmingham,England and died in Granger,Utah.I have 2 children listed for him -a boy born in Salt Lake City and a girl in Texas so I presume one of these is your ancestor.
If you want any more information on the English Salisburys let me know - I have about 250 Salisburys on my tree, some of whom emigrated.
regards Colleen

Hello Grant
Have you ever come across a baptism for a Lettice Salisbury? She married Thomas Bool/Bull 18 JUN 1781 Montacute. I think both Lettice and Thomas may have come from Norton-sub-Hamdon, but can't find any record of a baptism for either of them, although I've trawled through all the usual online sources.
Should be grateful if you can help.

Salisbury families from Otsego County,NY

Searching for the parents of Peter Salisbury b.abt.1819 in Otsego Co. NY,possilby Milford, NY and died 1884 in Unadilla NY. A bio. of one of his daughter's husband names Peter's mother as Nancy VanBuren and says she was a cousin of Martin VanBuren, but dosn't name his father. He married Emily Cooper before 1845,but I don't have a location. Also in the Town of Unadilla I found a Elizabeth Salisbury b.1824 in Cooperstown. Her parents were Luke Salisbury and Catherine VanBuren. Can anyone tell me if Peter and Elizabeth were related? It seems like all the Salisburys in Otsego Co. married VanBurens or other Salisburys and I can't match anyone to Peter.Any information on this family would be appreciated--James Corey

My e-mail address, which I use for Ancestry.com is: donmuncy1965@insightbb.com. I was born just outside of Betsy Layne which is in Floyd Co. I live in Louisville. I visit the grave sites of parents and grand-parents. I have been doing genealogy for about 5 years, as time permits. Also, I will visit the grave sites in Floyd co. before the holidays and will try to find my grand-fathers (Lackey's) before the holidays. I have been slow about responding, due to obligations at our church. Thank you for the information. Look for donmuncy2 in family trees. Let me know if you recieved. Thanks, Don Muncy

I had some health issues and had to wait for recovery. That is the reason for the delay. I will be visiting that area in the next two weeks and hope this closes the search for my great grandfather's burial site. I will let you know and send you some pictures, if I get them. I am back on the genealogy search. It is a life time hunt. Thanks again for your help.

My gt gt grandfather was Jonathan Salsberry, brother of Delilah.Their father is Daniel S. Salsberry.

I'm looking for the grandparents of Delilah and Jonathan. I am interested in Daniel S. Salsberry and trying to find who his parents are. I believe he is the grandson of William Saltzborger who died in 1791 in Cumberland Co PA. William had several children, 2 of whom are Peter and Christopher. I have seen claims Daniel S is the son of Peter and also that he is the son of Christopher. I am wondering if you can help me out on this. I suspect he is th son of Peter since there are land records in Ohio where Peter is selling land to Daniel S. I see no connection to Christopher in that manner. Also, the middle initial "S" is always there from the records I have seen. Could it be for the maiden name of his Mother (Peter's wife was a "Stahl") Again, any help would be appreciated.

Any help would be appreciated.
Don Lawse

I am researching the descendants of Mabel Hilts and unknown Salisbury. I have found Mabel's California Death index which shows she was born: 13 Oct 1896 in Missouri (to parents Julius Hilts and Susan Catherine Doyle) and died: 19 Sept 1967 in Sacramento. The social security death index lists her birth date as 13 Oct 1895.

What I do know is that she is not the wife of Wayman Salisbury who married Mabel Speer. I am looking for her husband's name and any descendants. Thank you.

Welsh origin of some Salisbury families

NEHGR, Vol. 33, (1879), p. 101, gives a brief view of the ancestry of those of the Welsh family of Salisbury who emigrated to America in the 17th & 18th centuries. The
Dictionary of Welsh Biography (http://yba.llgc.org.uk/en/s-SALU-LLE-1250.html) is hard to follow, but seems to give a clearer picture of the ancestry of those emigrants:

There is "some evidence, slight, but not easily disposed of, that the family had a Herefordshire origin. They were established at Lleweni, in the Vale of Clwyd, before 1354."
They are not on the original (pre-1290) list of burgesses of nearby Denbigh. I use the spelling used by the afore mentioned Dictionary.

THOMAS SALUSBURY, who didn't die in 1471, in the Battle of Barnet, but in 1490 had 5 sons & probably daughters. The sons are:

1. Ffowc (Fulk?), was dean of St. Asaph, before 1505 &
until his death in 1543.

2. Sir Thomas, fought at the Battle of Blackheath (1497) &
was knighted as a consequence. He d. in 1505 & was
succeeded by his son:

A. Sir Roger, who d. in 1530 & was succeeded by his son:

1. Sir John, who was made Kinght of the Carpet in
1547, by Edward VI, & m. Jane, d/o David
Myddleton of Chester. His son:

a. John, m. Katheryn of Berain, was MP for the
borough of Denbigh, 1554, & d. 1578. He had
2 sons & perhaps daughters. The sons are:

i. Thomas, b. 1561, he m. 1571, at age 10,
Margaret, dau. of Maurice Wynn, his
mother's 3d husband. He was executed,
for treason, 21 Sep 1586.

ii. Sir John, b. 1566, he entered Jesus
College, Oxford University, 24 Nov 1581.
He married, Nov 1586, Ursula Stanley,
illegimate dau, of Henry, earl of
Derby. He fought a duel, in Mar 1593,
with Owen Salusbury of the junior
family of Rug. He entered the Middle
Temple, Mar 1594/95, to study law. He
was appointed "squire of the body",
1595, by Queen Elizabeth, & was
knighted by her in June, 1601. Robert of Plas Isa, Llanrwst, of whom no more is
said.

I seem to be (assuming that my reading of the Dictionary is correct & that the descent from John & Ursula STANLEY Salisbury to the William Salisbury killed at Swansea in 1675 is correct) descended from Sir Roger, grandson of the first Thomas. I hope that others will find this helpful; & will correct me, if I'm wrong.
When I was looking up info on John (Thomas) Salisbury, Elizabeth was not mentioned as one of his children. Do you have any information on Margaret Crowley's Parent's? I would love any information you could send me on the Salisbury's, the Crowley's, the Puleston's, etc.....I can't believe I come from such an interesting Family Line. I feel like Brooke Shields when she found out "Where She Came From".

Karlene,
My ears perked up when I read you have documents for the parentage of Daniels S Salsberry as being Peter Salsberry. I suspect that also but there are TWO Daniel Salsberry's. I believe the other (Or Daniel S) is the son of Christopher, brother of Peter and son of William Salsberry (Saltsborger) of Cumebrland (now Perry) County PA. Peter and Daniel S lived next to each other and Peter sold land to Daniel S. That is one of the main reasons I suspect they are father and son. However I do not have any written proof. Do you? I would greatly appreciate obtaining a copy of it. Daniel S is my gt gt gt grandfather through his son Jonathan who married 3 times. He died in Sullivan County Missouri. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Don

Re: Saratoga Co. Salisbury''s

I have a Solomon H. Salisbury born 1819 in NY, son of Benjamin Salsbury/Salisbury and Cynthia Fuller. I believe their sons stopped in Michigan in the 1830's on the way to Wisconsin, but that may have been to visit Fuller relatives. I don't think Solomon is a particularly common Salisbury name so maybe we share a common ancestor somewhere. Rhode Island has been a thought in the past, but am wondering if they were in Alleghany County, NY, also at one time. Any ideas? Chery Olson

I looked up Marion Salisbury on Ancestry.com, I found in the 1930 census Marion and Wendell with their parents Leon and Blanche living in Lakewood, Cuyahoga, Ohio. Wendell being 5 years old. Did a search on Wendell. The Social Security Death Index brought up a Wendell E Salisbury, born 16 Jul 1924 and died 11 May 1999, at that time was living in Ironton, Lawrence, Ohio. His mother's maiden name was Cornell. Pulled up a Jamie (a Male?) S. Salisbury, 1991 address, PO Box 816, Centerburg, OH 43011. Not easy to find the girls as they are probably married. Hope this might help.
Carol
