Re: Frederick (Fred) B Sander in Minnesota

HI, I apologize if you happened to get 1/2 a message before this one.

I saw that you have some Zander ancestry and wondered if you happened to have any information relating to my 3rd great grandmother JOHANA ZANDER (b. about 1820 Germany) who married CARL FIELITZ b. about 1820 Germany). I am not sure if this couple ever came to the US. I know positively they had this 1 son Wilhelm.

1. WILHELM F.E.FIELITZ b. 29 Apr 1842 Mecklenberg-Schwerin, Gronlitz, Germany who married in Detroit, Mich in 1868 to CAROINE ROSOLINA CHRISTINA JOHANNA KOHLER / KOEHLER. He possibly immigrated to the US per Census records in 1866 thru Pennsylvania. He died in Detroit, Mich. 11 Jan 1917. His death record states his parents were Carl Fielitz and mother Johana Zander.

2. But on various directories I found a
Henry J Fielitz b. about 1844 living in Detroit,
3. Johann Fielitz m Anna Meyer 1885 Detroit possibly a brother.
4. Fritz W.C. Fielitz m. Caroline Bolz 1876 Detroit
Frederick Fielitz b. about 1850 Germany but in Detroit 1878.

Would you possibly have any information on Johana Zander b. about 1820 in Germany, her parents and ancestors and her children? I would appreciate it if you wouldn't mind sharing any information you might have with me.

If/when you write back, please be patient with me in replying because I have been running to my mother's home to care for her every other week as she is terminally ill. Thanks for anything or any leads, info you might have.
Sincerely, Sharon Kilpatrick

I noticed that later as well when I rechecked. I've started a Sander blog at: http://sanderbook.blogspot.com/

There's not much there yet and it may be a while before there's a lot more. I'm working more right now on the Johnsons. Brede's daughter, Henrietta Sander, married Gustav Johnson. She recorded a lot of her memories in the article at the blog.

According to my calculations, we must be fourth cousins. Nice to meet you. If I can be of further assistance let me know.

Regards,

Mark Didrik Williams, son of Vincent Delano Williams, son of Lillie Viola Johnson, daughter of Henrietta O. Sander, daughter of Brede Bredesen Sander, son of Brede Eriksen Sander, son of Erik Bergersen Sander (c. 1739-8 Jan 1818), son of Berger Eriksen Sander.

Looking for information on a Brede Sander(s) emigrated from Norway in appr 1851 and settled in IA. I assume near Decorah as I have info that states he contributed to the start of Luther College in Decorah. He had a son who lived in Douglas County Minnesota, named Ole Bredeson Sanders--who was known as both Ole Bredeson and Ole Sanders. Looking specifically for information that verifies Brede Sanders immigration dates and residency in the US.

I am researching the SANDER-LEHRNER line. The LEHRNER famiy comes from the town of Horitschon, Austria.

Louis SANDER married Josephine LEHRNER on August 8th, 1936 in Chicago, ILL. I have a copy of the marriage certificate.

Josephine LEHRNER was American born to Austrian parents, Paul LEHRNER and Julia (Julianna) LEHRNER nee. LAZARUS. Josephine and her sister Paula (Pauline) MIKOLASHEK nee. LEHRNER visited Horitschon, Austria in their teens.

The 1930 census listed the LEHRNER home on Belden Avenue, Chicago, IL.

I believe, from SSDI listening and doing the math, Louis SANDER may have been born Aug. 18, 1912 and died Apr. 18, 2001 in Florida. No details for Josephine LEHRNER.

I would love to contact anyone researching this line or with any knowledge of the family.

I am interested in Michael Sander (1770-1841), who settled in Hemlock (now Montour) Twp, Northumberland (now Columbia) Co, PA by 1791. He was a native of Northampton Co and married c1796 to Margaret Wertman. They had no children. Does anyone have any information on his ancestry? TIA

My father has told me about a great uncle of his from the Sander family originally from Carlisle, Cumberland district of England who moved to the US, he thinks perhaps Utah. According to his recollections he started the Sander Windowshade??? or similar company over there. He would have been born around 1870, but I'm not sure which brother it was. I was wondering if anyone could enlighten me or had further information on this side of the family.

Cheers T

I have a number of Sander ancestors from Hamburg going back to 1740 originally from Burgdorf (Salzgitter) in Lower Saxony. If you think there might be a connection, please contact me.

Hi Becky,
I think you have it mostly right. Do you know of either Rick Mueller or Roland Sander? They are both descendants of George Sander (b. 1847) whom I have been in contact with for a while. Also the kwmed in this thread is a new contact that is also a descendant of George's. These three still live in Illinois. If you email me directly at alar256@gmail.com, I can elaborate more. Your George Sander of 1847 is the son of Johann Heinrich Wilhelm Sander (known commonly as Wilhelm or William) and Dorothee Margarethee Heinemann and brother of my great-grandfather Louis Sander. I am descended from William then Louis then Harry then my father Marland. The Minnesota branch come down from Louis who changed the name to Sanders during the first World War. Unfortunately I have not had the pleasure of meeting any of the Chicago Sander people. Data and pictures of Wilhelm and Dorothee's children's (Lena and Emma)families and only a few rather oblique references to George Sander folk.
Marba

After Speaking with my grandfather, Clarence Sander, and father, Dennis Sander, they're thinking that Wilhelm is an Uncle of George Sander (born 1847). George Sander's parents are buried in a small cemetary in Des Plaines, IL, not sure of the name. The cemetary is located on Rand Rd between Wolf Rd and the railroad tracks & large power lines. That's the description I was given. I'm interested in checking it out myself. We know that George Sander's (born 1847) father's name was also George. This is what has been so confusing for me to research, because there were 4 generations of George Sander's. I had been contacted by some Sander's in Minnesota a while back and I remember finding out that they were not a direct line, so this makes more sense knowing that Wilhelm was an Uncle to George. I'll try to piece more together to make more sense of all of this. I assume you are Bob Gosch's son or daughter, perhaps we met many years ago at St. Matthew Church in Lake Zurich. Please keep me updated if you come up with anything else.
Becky

I am from the Minnesota Clan of the Sander family. Louis was my great-grandfather. Do you know of Roland Sander or Rick Mueller both living in Illinois? Roland is from the George line and Rick is from the Henry line. I have German church records that show the children of Johann Heinrich Wilhelm and Dorothee Margrethe Marie (nee Heinemann) Sander as Karl Friedrich George born 21 Jan 1847, Sophie Caroline, twins Dorette and Wilhelmina Emma and Augun Ludwig (Louis). Tradition has it in both the Illinois and Minnesota clans that there was another child, Henry which is puzzling considering the above information. Rick has found birth record for Henry that indicates he was Wilhem and Dorothee's child but born 11 months before they were married. Please contact me at alar256@gmail.com. I'd love to continue this discussion. Marba

I don't think this is related to my line. The part of the family that remained Illinois kept the original spelling of the name, that is Sander. You might try contacting Rick Mueller who has a posting earlier in this thread. He is one of the Illinois Sander family descendents and he still lives in Illinois. He has much larger database of info on his descendent line. There is another gentlemen following another descendent line of the Illinois clan whom I can ask if these names are familiar.

I am a descendant of George Sander, born 21 Jan 1847, Hanover, Germany. I also am 5th Generation born in America. My grandmother was was George's oldest daughter, Clara Sander Gosch Rugen. I have a tree on Ancestry.com (entitled Tree of Life) which shows George's father as Wilhelm Sander (born 1815, died 1883). Wilhelm is buried next to George at Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery on Rand Road in Des Plaines, IL. Is this the name of the father you had? His wife's name was Dorothea (last name is unknown at this point). George Sander (born 1847) also had a brother by the name of Louis (born about 1859). He lived in Maine Township, IL before moving to Minnesota in the late 1890's. There is another whole Sander clan in Minnesota.

I was very excited to get your reply to my post. I just recently had another cousin email me with lots of information about This Sanders family. He descends from one of Starling's brothers. He told me why the family and 150 other related people moved from Missouri out to California (on the Oregon Trail) and on to other places. He is going to send me some more detailed information about that. He also emailed me pictures of William & Sarah "Sally" (Moore) Sanders. I can forward them to you too. I have only one picture of Mary Beulah Sanders Terwilliger. She left her husband and kids when my grandmother was a baby (Montegue California) She actually tried to take my grandma with her on the train but her husband Fred Terwilliger jumped on the train and grabbed my grandmother back. My family never knew much about her after that except that she went on to get married again & had a couple more kids. Also, that she died of a brain tumor. I don't know what her next married name would have been and don't have a death date. Does anyone on your side of the family know any of this information and also I'm assuming that Mary Beulah's kids from second husband could very much still be alive. I would love so much to find out about Beulah and meet her kids if they are still alive. I want to email you off post - not sure if I can post it right here or not -

I just got Mary Elizabeth Sanders death certificate from Oregon. she died Aug. 25, 1939 Multonomah Hospital Portland her residence was 108 N.E. 16th Ave. She was buried in Rose City Cem. Her parents are listed as William Owings born Missouri and Sarah Davis born in Missouri. This info. opened up another part of the family tree - There is info. on those people on www.rootsweb.com

I can scan the death certificate and send it to you. Also, I can send you Starling's death certificate.

Thanks again for responding,
Betsy

I am glad to hear that Mary's maiden name was Owings. Thank you for sharing that information.

I've been looking up Starling recently, since I am a descendent of his daughter Alma. Alma's daughter Charlotte says that she thinks there was some Native American blood in Starling's family, but that her mother didn't acknowledge it. From the censuses of 1850 and 1860 and marriage records, it appears that his parents were William Sanders and Sarah "Sally" Moore of Missouri.

This is what Charlotte told me: Mary and Starling were divorced. Mary lived in Spokane where she invested in some property, after she and the children lived in Idaho. She was injured while riding on a horse, and she wouldn't let the doctors operate. At that time she was a holly roller, and she said that it was God's will that she shouldn't walk any more. She was in a wheelchair. At some point she ran out of money, and so she would rotate living with each of her three daughters.

Frederick (Fred) B Sander in Minnesota

One of the Fred Sander's was my g-father, so I know this family fairly well.

Thanks to Cousin Daniel in Washington State, we have a copy of the baptismal record in Prussia (Posen area)from before they emigrated to the US - which also confirmed that the name was spelled Zander before they came to the US. They came initially to Chicago and stayed for a year or two and then moved to the Sibley County area of Minnesota (Arlington, Henderson,...)

A group later decided to move further west and went to Rosailia/Spokane area of Washington State.

Here is some of the basic lineage info for you to see if we have any connections. I am not sure what the messaging process will do to the formatting....but hopefully you can retrieve the information. I have a tree posted via the old Rootsweb (accessible through Ancestry) if you want more family info.

The Sander information you are looking for begins with Andreas Alwin second child, Anna...past the Alwins/Klingbeils.

Descendants of Andreas ALWIN
Page 1
13 Nov 2007
1.
