Anyone who is descended from James Sands, b. @ 1622, who m. Sarah Walker, a niece of Anne Hutchinson, and moved to Block Island, RI, should visit the island. James' huge redstone monument is in the cemetery (still clear since 1695), and his name is on the founders' rock at the north end of the island. There are also various markers around the island with Sands information. The Historical Society is very helpful also, with several lines of James' ancestors available.
My great grandfather was John Sands, married to Anna Heffernan, and she was born approx 1852 per death cert, listed as Irish.
They had 4 children, Georgia,b. 1872 Edward,b. ? Frank b. 1878 and Amelia, born 1881.
Anna lists herself as Mrs. Anna in 1886, and Wid of John in 1888, living in Portland, Oregon.
I can find NOTHING on John (no middle initial) or on Edward except he lived with Anna and his siblings in 1890 & 91.
Anything ring a bell to you??
My father was Henry William Sands and as far as I knew he was born in london but Ithought it was Chelsea. He had two brothers, collin and Reg. He was born around 1905. They ended up in East Anglia. I think my grandfather was a senior chaplain of Cambridge Universities and beliieve he had associations to Kings College. I would desperately hope this is of some use to you. Regards, Bob Sands. {Now in New Zealand}
P.S. I have two sisters, Brenda and June Roney in Oswego.

My grandfather was Grover Sands. He was married to Bessie at the time of his death in approximately 1956. He died in the Quindaro area of Kansas City, KS. His sisters, Florence and Virginia were known as Honey and Ginny respectively. Honey (Florence) and her husband Claude raised Grover's sons, Charles and Richard, because Grover was seriously ill and their mother, Mary, had abandoned them, having married Grover at 15.

I hope that you get this message and that it helps.

Mary Beth Sands
Hi, Peggy:

We are related for sure. I, too, am a direct descendant of Robert Sandys (sometimes seen as Sands, but originally was Sandys). He was born about 1796 in Ireland (not sure where) and married Anne Jane Weeks who was also born in Ireland about 1816 (not sure where). They had two children for sure, and possibly more. I know they had Jane Sandys, for she was married Daniel Philip Quantz. They had 5 children, including Mary Ann Quantz who married Andrew Bolland in 1881 in Lapeer, Michigan (I have a copy of that page from their family Bible, which I found online. They had 6 children, but only three lived: 3 girls, 2 of whom had no children and the third was my grandmother Eva Mary Bolland who married my grandfather Andrew Olsen. They had two children: Alice who never married and my father Carl W. Olsen who married my mother Jeanne E. Olsen (yes, that was her maiden name, too) and had two children: my older sister Carole J. Olsen (now Wooten) and me, Lorene A. Olsen (now Lorene Olsen Bowles). I have 1 child and 4 grandchildren. My sister has two children but no grandchildren. I can also tell you I have a copy of Robert Sandys' death record. He died on April 21, 1878 in Lambton County, Ontario, Canada, of a paralytic stroke, which was reported to the officials by his son James Sandys (which is how I know about James). Also, Robert was Presbyterian. The death record says Sands, but so many poeple had name changes that occurred on the way here from their homelands. Their daughter went by the correct spelling, Jane Sandys. She was visiting a daughter of theirs in Cleveland, Ohio (where I live) after her husband Daniel's death, and she died and is buried here in the same cemetery where my parents are buried and where I shall be buried someday. It is called Riverside Cemetery. Maybe you know some information you can tell me, like how you are descended from Robert so that we can see how we are related. Sincerely, Lorene Olsen Bowles (age 69)

Great research. Having just discovered your post, I am inclined to believe that James was not the son of Henry. However, every source I have found indicates that both the first wife of the Archbishop, Mary, and son (James) died while he was in exile. Is there an available source you could point me to (online or by e-mail) that claims James did not die as is widely published online?
Thanks,
Kyle
kylem86@hotmail.com

Sands Family Bucks Co. Pa

I am looking for information on a Mary or Margaret Sands. She was born about 1838 and lived in the Bucks/Montgomery County area and married William H. Nichols. They had a daughter Sarah Rebecca and another daughter Clara. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I'm going attach two photos of Dorsey Sands' grave. One of the photos was taken many years ago (by my father) and, as you can see, the stone is in very good shape. The other photo was taken about 10 years ago when we took a trip back to Indiana. I can't believe how the stone has deteriorated. I also have photos of the grove of trees where the grave is, as well as the house (empty) on the land. The land is being farmed, but the grove of trees with the grave is untouched.
If you wish to correspond further, I would be happy to hear from you. My e-mail address is kallemeyn@aol.com, and my name is Carolyn.
