Mary Savannah
B: abt 1862 South Carolina
D:5 Feb 1947 Reddies River, Wilkes, North Carolina

married

John H Robinson
B:abt 1857 North Carolina
D:

They lived in Ellijay, Gilmer, Georgia in the 1880's and in Wilkes County, NC starting in the 1900's forward. It is possible her maiden was Sanford instead of Savannah. My grandmother stated her surname was Savannah. Is Sanford a bad phonetic spelling of Savannah? Anyway, does anyone have any information on her or the family from this area and time period?
Do you know whether your grandfather/ggrandfather, Joseph, was the family member who made an extensive family tree? Dad only remembers that Joseph Savannah made a family tree, but not too sure what happened to it.
Joseph Leo Savannah was my dad's cousin, and his recollection is that he was one of the nicest guys anyone could ever know. He also remembers that he had a daughter, but couldn't remember her name; only that she has/had all of the first Joseph Arlington Savannah's carpentry tools and that she might have had a husband who was a carpenter.
I would love to exchange emails and information with you.

Yes, he did. Dad had black hair, with a little bit of wave in it, and he has green eyes with long lashes. He is not very tall, only about 5'8" and had a slight build and isn't much bigger now. He just turned 76 this summer.

Yes, Susan, yes!!! Hello, cousin! William was actually called by his middle name, Perry. The other brother, Joseph Arlington Savannah (Jr; called Arlie), was my grandfather! My father is the youngest of five children, and their family moved to DC around 1942. They couldn't get enough work in Scranton, so my grandfather (Pop) went to work for the federal government where he was joined by my father after his discharge from the military. I would love to share information! We also have a cousin, Buz, who lives in North Carolina. He is related through our ggrandmother, Elisabeth DeTemple Savannah, who came over from Prussia. He was in Scranton last summer and shared so much information and photos!

I am doing research on the Savannah family of Scranton PA. Some members moved to Newark New Jersey in the 20's and 30's. Arrived in America from Prussia between 1850 and 1852 in Scranton area. Looking for Prussian origins.Valentine and Elizabeth Savannah along with their two daughters Barbara(Betsey) and Mary were original immigrants. My great grandmother Madeline (Magdelina,Lena,Ellinor)Savannah Dowd was another of their 8 children.Other children were Margaret(Maggy) ,Henry, Sophia,Joseph and Elizabeth.
All my data except about Madeline is from all the census images.

Thank you
Buz

You may already have this, but the Lackawanna census dated June 5, 1880 lists Elizabeth Savannah, widowed, living on Hickory Street (unnumbered) with three children. Joseph, 19, worked in the steel mill; Leena (sp), 20, worked in the silk factory, and so did Sophia, 16. They all give Prussia as their place of birth.
I have found marriage license records for Joseph (married Mary Donahue, 1880 -- my great-grandparents) and Sophia (married Robert J McCray in 1887), but none for Leena by the names of Savannah or Dowd.
