Richard Houston Scarbrough of TN (1851-1931)

Richard Houston Scarbrough married Annie Gentry (Dec 1974/Jan 1975) in Knox County, Tennessee and were life-long residents of Anderson County, raising a family of 2 boys and 4 girls. The Scarbrough ancestry is well documented but Annie Gentry's ancestry is empty in my file. They are both buried at the Scarbrough Cemetery (founded 1832) at Oak Ridge, Anderson County, Tennessee.

Annie is my wife's grandmother (1858-1907), born in Tennessee (1880 & 1900 census). Can anyone identify Annie Gentry's ancestry with sources? Her father (--- Gentry) was born in Tennessee and her mother (Sarah ---) was born in Kentucky, as shown in the 1880 census.

Thank you for the reply. I found the 1900 Census record for Dover, Pope, AR showing Robert P Scarbrough, his wife Elizyce P and son John A Scarbrough (b: 1881). It also shows that Robert & Elizyce had a total of 6 kids, which matches with the 1880 Census from Hayward, Clay, Arkansas showing R P Scarbrough, Elizebeth and their 5 children. Also, the birth places for Robert & Elizebeth match between the 1900 and 1880 Census records.

Your information on John & Hettie helped me to find the 1910 Census record in Dover, Pope, AR.

Please keep me posted if you find additional information on Robert P Scarbrough or related families.

You can contact me personally at familytree-scarbrough AT holdenfamly(dot)com.

John Andrew Scarbrough was a son of Robert Parker Scarbrough.
He married Hettie Hamilton in Dover? ar. They had two children, Flora Elizebeth and Roy Vernon. Both John and Hettie are buried in McFarlane cemetry in Dover Ar. In researching Robert Parker I find a surname of SArbrauge but have had no luck in finding any connection. Previously I had been told that possibly Robert Parker father's name was Hiram in North Carolina. John A was my grandfather. I feel there is some native american connection but have found nothing in that regard.
Hope this is of some help

Your ref. subject: William Alva Scarbrough, was my grandfather, he died before I was born. His home was in Anniston Al, lived before in Alexanderia Al and is buried there. He never lived in TX, except for a brief time when he was young, there less than a year, but then returned to Allexandria. His wife was indeed his third cousin, Mamie Sabra Scarbrough. They had four daughters and two sons, all passed away now. names, Clara,Francis,Annette, Cleve,Buddy, and I cant remember the daughter who lived in Situate, Mass. I know her daughters, Nancy and Sabra. Are you by chance the Scott, from Jasper AL?

Hi,
My wife is a Scarbrough from Texas. We are searching for information on her Great Grandparents (& everyone else up the line). Mack Scarbrough (12/4/1880 or 1882 - 5/29/1929) and Lou Vesta Wilkerson Scarbrough (1888-?). Lou Vesta remarried after Mack died and we think her 2nd married name is Barr (She married WM Barr in Shelby County, TX in 1934). Mack & Lou Vesta lived in San Augustine County, TX and had atleast 11 children: Sandie Bon, D.L., Della, Gracie, Noah James, Eugene, Agnes, Lonnie, Annie, Bessie, Letha - all are deceased. The family migrated to the Houston area. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Some were adopted out, some ran away. I need to know the names of these kids. I know of one--James Everett Scarbrough, born Oct. 15, 1914. He lived with his parents til he was 14 and then he ran away. All I care about is finding James' siblings. Can someone help me?

Jacob Scarbrough, born 1826 Kentucky

The first time I find my Jacob SCARBROUGH is when he married Nancy GOLDMAN SMITH, widow of Westley SMITH, on 22 July 1855 in Crawford County, Indiana. They are then enumerated on the 1860 census for Crawford County as SCARBRO. Jacob's age was 33, making his possible year of birth about 1826, and his place of birth was Kentucky. Nancy's children from her first marriage (Margaret & Westley SMITH) were in the home, as well as her children with Jacob, Moses and Sarah SCARBROGH. By 1870, Nancy was widowed, and living in Knox County, Indiana (enumerated as SCARBERO) with children Sarah, Mary E., and Louisa SCARBROUGH and Westley SMITH. (Nancy died between 1900-1910 in Greene County, Arkansas.)

I can find no other SCARBROUGHs of any spelling in Crawford or Knox Counties in Indiana, or surrounding counties, in 1850, and haven't a clue as where to begin searching in Kentucky.

Does anyone have a stray Jacob?
