There's a Grace Galbreath that just turned up in my tree, born in Ohio August 1883. Residence in Alliance, Stark County, OH in 1900. She must have married a Schaeffer, because her death certificate shows that last name. She had previously married a Whitacre. Died in Seattle.

Sure...I havent worked on the tree for a long time, but all info on it is right from Harold, who still knows his stuff. :) And Joan, his daughter, helped. So its true and correct to the best of their knowledge, which I would say is damn near close to 100%. I am not sure how to add you, but I will try. Do I need a .com or something after your email?

His parents, John and Catherine (Hanna) Hole, came from Virginia to Ohio, and were among the early pioneers of the state.
found in a book on HeritageQuest Online
–not my line as far as I know; my line is from Germantown, Columbia County, New York

Title: Centennial history of Columbus & Franklin County, Ohio
Authors: Taylor, William Alexander,
City of Publication: Chicago:
Publisher: S.J. Clarke Pub. Co.
Date: 1909
Page Count: 1660
Notes:
Includes indexes.
Reproduction of original in the Newberry Library.
ill., ports.
Reel/Fiche Number: (Genealogy and local history; LH15083).

Centennial History of Columbus (pages 166-167)

George C. Schaeffer, M.D.

Dr. George C. Schaeffer, devoting his time and energies assiduously to his professional duties, is now specializing in the treatment of diseases of the eye, ear, nose and throat. His careful preparation for this branch of the profession well qualifies him for the work which he is doing and his ability in this connection is widely recognized. Dr. Schaeffer was born in Germantown, Ohio, March 19, 1870, a son of W.H. Schaeffer, also a native and still a resident of Germantown, where he is well known as an enterprising business man. He wedded Catherine Nagley, also a native of Germantown.

While spending his boyhood days under the parental roof Dr. Schaeffer pursued his early education in the public schools until he had completed the high-school course by graduation with the class of 1888. His literary training was received in the Ohio State University, which he entered in September, 1888, there pursuing a three years’ philosophical course, at the end of which time he left college and entered business with his father. During his college days he was president of the sophomore class and was a member of both the baseball and football teams, taking much interest in athletics, in which he excelled. He was also a member of the Phi Delta Theta, a college fraternity. In 1893 Dr. Schaeffer took up the study of medicine and was graduated from the Miami Medical College in 1896 with valedictorian honors. He had the of practical and varied experience during a service of a year and a half as house surgeon in the Cincinnati Hospital and later spent a year and a half in a private eye and ear hospital in Indianapolis. Subsequently he pursued a post-graduate course in the Polyclinic of New York, and while perfecting himself for the general practice of medicine he also became interested in and gave considerable attention to the study of the diseases of the eye, ear, nose and throat. In the spring of 1899, he removed to Bloomington, Indiana, where he opened an office, there enjoying a good practice until the fall of 1907, when he sought the broader fields offered in city practice and came to Columbus. Here he has already won a good patronage, being now one of the successful and popular physicians of the city. In January, 1909, he entered into partnership relations with Dr. Andrew Timberman for the treatment of the eye, ear, nose, throat, and in this department of professional service is now specializing with good results. Always an interested student of his profession, he has carried his investigations and research far and wide in the realms of scientific knowledge, keeping constantly abreast with the onward march of the medical fraternity. In his work he holds to the ideals of the profession of prevention rather than cure through the dissemination of knowledge that will produce healthy conditions through sanitation and understanding of the causes of disease. In this connection he is acting as secretary of the milk commission of the Academy of Medicine of Columbus. He also belongs to the East Side General Practitioners Society and the State Medical Society and of the latter is secretary of the pediatric section. He is also a member of the American Medical Association.

In 1898 Dr. Schaeffer was married to Miss Laura M. Moore, of Laporte, Indiana, and they have won many friends in this city. The doctor is an able physician with a growing practice and at all times he keeps in touch with the advanced work of the profession, while his ability to correctly apply his knowledge to the individual needs of his patients is manifest in the excellent results which have attended him. He is careful in the diagnosis of a case and seldom if ever at fault in determining the outcome of disease. Now concentrating his energies upon a special department, he has already won wide recognition for his skill in this direction, which is carrying him into important professional relations.
I have no idea who her family is. She too was living in Schuykill county. She married a Zerbe. The only thing I know about her is she had a sister Eliza who lived with them in 1880. I knew many of the people you're asking about. I would love information about any remaining family, as I've not really been in touch with any of the family since my mother died in 1984.

Hi, Ginger, are you still working with your friend Lori? This definitely sounds like the same family. I am the daughter of Robert Archie. Some of the names seem to be just off. I assume Hilah is Helen. Homer's name is listed as John Homer on his military grave marker in Lewistown MT. If I remember correctly, Charlie's middle name was Lorenz. I have been in touch with Shirley on occasion, and she seems to have traced back more than I have been able to.
If you are interested in the family after they reached Montana, I may be able to fill you in.
Carol Ann

Jeanne,

I don't know if you have found this yet, but I hope it helps! Salome is my 4xGreat Grandmother as well.

Regards,

Alan Vibber

http://berks.pa-roots.com/newsclippings/MacungieProgress/nov...

Macungie Progress (Macungie, PA), Thursday, November 15, 1900
Amos Weiler

The following sketch of a well known gentleman will without doubt prove interesting to many Progress readers. Amos Weiler, aged 83 years, of Longswamp, Berks county, for more than 30 years a Democratic leader, once lieutenant colonel of militia, a member of the Legislature from 1858 to 1862, a prison inspector before the Civil War, a prothonotary of Berks from 1879 to 1881, for years a local school director, a number of times a delegate to Democratic State conventions, a District Court juror, and who was a generation ago at the head of many other minor business and political movements, is today one of the best preserved octogenarians in the state. His sigh, hearing and memory are equal to those of the average middle-aged man. He manages his business, visits and entertains as well as 30 years ago. He resides on his 105-acre farm near Longswamp post office, the old homestead upon which lived and died his father and grandfather. The father was George and the grandfather John Weiler. The last named was born in Oley, and married Margaret, daughter of George Schall, of Oley, who owned 300 acres of fine land in Longswamp, which the son-in-law, John Weiler, inherited. The present Weiler farm, and the large farm now owned by Colonel William Trexler constitute the original tract, which was at one time owned by one of the early members of the Biery family. John Weiler and wife had five children, Andreas, John, George, Maria, wife of Jonathan Kline, of Weisenberg; and Esther, wife of John Singmaster, of Macungie. George Weiler married Salome, daughter of Dewald Schaeffer, of Northampton county. They had the following children: Aaron, who died at the age of one year; Amos, the subject of this sketch; Sarah Ann, deceased widow of Levi Schwartz, of Hancock; Marietta, widow of Aquilla Knauss, Macungie; Salome Ann, deceased wife of Elias Titlow, Longsdale; Willoughby, who died at the age of six years; Elizabeth Ann, widow of Thomas Will, Reading; Mary Emmalina, widow of Peter Haas, Reading; Manoah S., for many years one of Reading’s well known hotel-keepers; Hannah Louisa, who died at the age of one year; Margaret, wife of Edwin Fegely, Upper Macungie, and one that died in infancy. Amos Weiler, when 32 years of age, married Susanna, daughter of Daniel Schantz, of Upper Milford, Lehigh county. Mrs. Weiler died about 12 years ago. Two children survive: Hiram S. Weiler, a well known Reading hotel clerk, and Ella Viola, wife of David S. Trexler. Mr. Trexler lives with his family on the old Weiler farm. The children are Dr. Jacob A. Trexler, Howard C. and Miss Nettie G. Amos Weiler attended the old-time day schools of his native township. Later he attended the once famous school at Trappe for three terms. Then at the age of 25 years he entered the general store of Reuben Trexler at Longswamp and remained there until about the time of his marriage. He was an excellent clerk. Like a great many other successful men, he always credited the training of the country store with his good fortune in life. There he thoroughly learned to understand human nature.

page 1

Submitted by Jerri.

Tammy,
I would be interested in any info you could provide about Trapp descendants or ancestors of Anna Thiel. My email address is janinesch@verizon.net.

As far as Fred’s parents are concerned Louise was born in 1836, but I don’t have info on her death – all I know it was some time after 1910. Victor was born in 1834 and I can place his death 1896-7. The family was from Stuttgart, a suburb of Baden-Wurtemberg, Germany. My info comes from an old family portrait which contains the info on the back, but no dates of death.

The father and all the brothers were butchers, they owned several butcher shops in Newark, NJ called “Schaeffer Bros.” Gustave was the only one who went to Chicago, then moved to Gotha, FL to become a citrus grower.

As far as pictures, I have a family photo of Victor & Louise with their 8 children probably not long after they came to this country, the 7 brothers when they were adults, one picture I am trying to identify someone who might be Anna Thiel, Florence as a child with her siblings, and a few of Florence’s children, and her sisters (Edna & Louise). Let me know if you are interested in any of them. I would be interested in any pictures you have.

Do you have any burial information for Fred or Florence?

Janine
These are Florences kids and grand children.

I can find out from the co-ordinator of the book who submitted their information if you would be interested.

I am not a close relative of Anna. I have specific information on their births etc if you would be interested.

If you would let me know your e-mail, I can send along an attachment of family group sheets.

What I'm missing is specific information on Fred's birth date and place and his parents.

Pictures would be great. At our last reunion there was a push to scan the old pictures and I can find out if there were any belonging to this branch of the family if you would like,

Take care and have a great day,

Tammy

Glad to hear from you!

Fred’s parents were Victor & Louise Brecht. There were 8 siblings who made it to the states (Karl, Gustave, Otto, Fred, Minnie, Herman, Eugene & Albert).

As far as I know Florence & Fred had the following children- Stephen, Wilbur, Robert & Eugene. My grandfather Herman had kids later in life and his kids were about the same age as Florence’s kids. My father remembers going up to Whippany every Saturday to visit with the Trapps. My uncle told me that John Stephen Trapp was an early mayor of Whippany and that Florence died relatively young. John Trapp then married Helen who helped raise his younger children.

Your post about Anna Thiel was the first time I heard the name of Fred’s wife. However, by the 1900 census Fred is listed as a widow and is living in his mother’s house in Newark. So she must've died prior to 1900.

I am not in direct contact with any of Florence’s children, I believe they have all passed away. However, I think I have contact info for one of their spouses. I will have to look for it.

I have some old pictures you might be interested in.
How are you related to Anna Thiel?
Do you have any pictures of Fred & Anna?

Janine
Dear Janine, Yes I'm still here. I went to great lengths to preserve this e-mail address for just such an occasion.

I will have to go over my notes - it has been years since I looked at this. I have children for Anna Thiel and Fred Schaeffer, but no grandchildren. I have notes that most of their children did not have children. I don't have parents for Fred either. Much of what I have is just a birth year or death year without place.

Are you in contact with any descendants?

It was lovely to get your message, Have a good evening,

Tammy Hillman
