This man born a Schmidt is my ex-husband. He was born 10 March 1949 in Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, New York to a 15 year old single girl who gave him up for adoption. My mother-in-law told me her and her husband adopted him at the age of 1 yr., 6 mos. as most people back then wanted a new born so they decided to adopt him.
Annmarie

Hello, Do you happen to have a picture of this gentleman? It would be a great help. The Schmidt family have very distinct features. I mean that sincerely. I look like my father who was very Irish/English. My sister however, took after my mothers side of the family..Irish/German. She kept the German Schmidt line. So you see, I could tell you right away if he is related to our line or not. So a picture would help. Thanks, Donna

the schmidt family

I have posted on here before and there has been some people that are very rude and dont seem to understand what and who im looking for. my mother was born in 1949 in Camp Cambell Ky on a army base. Her father was in the army and her mother was pregnant with twins. There birth name was David and Diane Schmidt. We dont even know if we are spelling schmidt correctly. All we know is that my mother was maybe 2 or 3 years old. She doesnt remember very much due to being a small child. Her birth mother died at birth giving birth to David and Diane. Her father didnt want the kids because he would have to choose between the army or his kids. He decided to put his children in foster care. We dont even know if the adopted family or families kept their first names or if they went to the same family. We dont know much at all because my mothers adopted parents didnt tell her very much at all and we have been trying to find out more info to help to look for them but havent been able too. So see my problem? Im only going on what we know. So i thought i would try this site to see if anyone had anything close to this kind of a story. So their birth names where David and Diane Schmidt. Now if they kept their names then their last name would be different. Thanks

My Schmidt line begins with my husband's mother, an unknown Schmidt, age 15 who was single when she had my husband, 10 March 1949 in Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, New York. She put him up for adoption and when he was 1 yr., 6 mos old he was adopted by William Josiah Christian, Sr. and Elizabeth L. Pickering-Christian. I have a copy of an Albany, New York birth certificate giving his mother's address only as R.F.D. which makes me think she might have lived in area of Schoharie, Achenectady, Albany, Slingerlands area. Been trying to find his mother since 1972.
Annmarie
Southampton, Massachusetts

Family of Jakob Schmidt & Catharina Kleinfelder, Siebeldingen, Pfalz, Bayern, GR

Looking for information on the Schmidt/Schmit and Kleinfelder Families of Siebeldingen, GR. My great grandmother was Christina Schmidt, born 1832, in Siebeldingen, daughter of Johann Jakob Schmidt & Catharina Kleinfelder Schmidt. Christina emigrated to Philadelphia, PA., USA. She married Friedrich Ludwig Rothermel of Guntersblum, GR. We do not know if Christina married in Germany or America. We would love to know about our ancestor's family in Germany. And know of the Schmit/Schmidt and Kleinfelder Families in USA. Any information will be sincerely appreciated.

Jacob Schmidt of Zurice, Switzerland drowned 1878 in Kansas

Found Drowned.

Jacob Schmidt, of Zurich, Switzerland, was last Monday found drowned in a buffalo wallow about two miles south of this city. The deceased was a man of medium stature, dark hair, black moustache somewhat bald, fair complexion and blue eyes. He was about thirty-six years of age, and was clad in a light pair of cassimere pants and vest, steel mixed coat and a striped cheviot shirt. The deceased took dinner at A. M. Switzer’s Monday, started for this city, and was found late in the afternoon as above stated. He was brought to town and Tuesday forenoon a jury impaneled by the coroner, after collecting all the evidence thought necessary, made a verdict that the deceased had met his death by drowning. No marks of violence were found to indicate foul play, and one dollar and seventy-five cents were found upon his person. When leaving Mr. Switzer’s the deceased had with him a large carpet sack, which cannot be found. If anyone comes across it they will confer a favor by leaving it at the store of Empey & Burrell this city.

Hutchinson News (Weekly)
Hutchinson, Reno County, Kansas
Thursday, June 20, 1878
page – 3 *** column – 2
I just came across your post from 2007! I am looking back into my family history and John S. Schmidt is as far as I have been able to get and is my "road block." My grandfather is Frank Martin Schmidt, son of Martin Schmidt, son of John Schmidt and Mary Friar.

My grandfather believes that his grandfather, John Schmidt, was a linguist with the Swiss Guard. He remembers as a young boy seeing letters John S Schmidt had written in several different languages. Martin Schmidt spoke of wanting to get them translated. Frank Schmidt does not know what became of those letters.

Would love if someone could shed more light on how this Schmidt came to America and why.

They married in London in 1858 and had four children while in London; Heinrich b 1859, Johann b1861, Ludwig 1864 & Elizabetha b 1868. They do not appear in any English Census that I can find. I think they left England but I have no idea where they went. I am not sure if they are linked to your family but I thought it was worth a try.
Any ideas would be much appreciated

Alvena Dena Schmidt was my grandmothers' name. Frank Schmidt is all I know about the guy and the two of them lived in ada michigan not sure for how long or where they were married. She was born in 1902 in Michigan. I have found her name spelled Dena Alvena Schmidt also. She was married to Fred Rogers I know they lived in South Bend, Indiana and in Michigan for awhile. Not sure when they were married but had to be divorced by 1940 when he remarried. I found her in the 1900 Census not married, then again in the 1920's. and 1930's census in this one they were in south bend indiana.

William was the son of Alvena Schmidt and Frank Schmidt. He was born in indiana or michigan sometime after 1940 but before 1950. I know he was up in ada sometime btwn. 1940-1950 with my grandmother.

Hi jrog37

I have tried responding via the list to your request, so I shall try the board...we need a little something more specific, as you are not providing your Grandmothers Name, unless it is Alvena Dena Schmidt. When and where she was born. If you have her in any Census already, which could help, 1880, 1900, 1910, 1920. If so how indexed, her name spelled. And about what time frame was she married to Fred Rogers, living where?

William the son of Alvena & Frank Schmidt, or Fred Rogers? When was William born and where?

When was Frank Schmidt in Ada, Kent Co., MI, as you stated last known place.

Please e-mail me directly genealogyresearch@drdocyoung.com

Thank you...Doc

I would say btwn. 1930's-1950's. My grandmother was married to a fred rogers before marrying Frank Schmidt. I have no other information on Frank. I know William and his mother and siblings moved to indiana, and from there he went to minnisota and then to louisiana.
