Maybe we do have the same ancestors. I have never been able to find any relatives in Germany. All I know about them was that they were blacksmiths and evangelica lutherans.

Gail

I saw your Schrader was from Braunschweig. Perhaps we have the same ancestry then. I have a Marie Elisabeth Friederike Schrader born.12 March 1856 in Hoiersdorf (died March 18, 1934 in Hoiersdorf) This small village is not far from Braunschweig. She married Heinrich Friedrich Kiehne was born May 25, 1854 in Hoiersdorf, died March 25, 1937 in Hoiersdorf. Their son, Alwin * Friedrich August Kiehne was my mother's grandfather.
My Henry Schrader family came from Braunschweig, Germany and settled in Dundas, Rice County, Mn.
Heinrich Julius Schrader established a farm there in 1859. His two sons: Henry and Fred continued to farm in Rice County and I think I am related to all the Schrader's in Rice County.

As far as I know we are not related to the Schrader's in Faribault County unless you have information that I do not have.

Gail Schrader

Carlton,
Thanks for replying. Since I have not seen you listed among my matches we probably are not related. I don't know how to see your FamilyTreeDNA files since we don't have a match link. What is your haplogroup? As I indicated I am R1b1a2a1a1b3c. If you are not R1b then our connection is, of course, extremely remote (20,000 yrs +).

Regards,
Bill Schrader

I have traced my direct male lineage (Schrader, Shrader, Shroeder, Schroeder) to William A. Shrader, son of John Shrader (the John who m. Rosanna Pensinger) and am looking for other Schrader (or varient) male line descendants in particular or family members in general that have done genetic testing for comparison. I have some unusual results on the Y-DNA gene (R1b1a2a1a1b3c (L2+) line) and would like to share with anyone else who has done genetic testing.

Thanks, Bill Schrader
Are you still looking? Henry would be my great-great grandfather. Peter was his father, born in Bavaria. Henry had Herbert William Schrader in 1899, who was my great grandfather. (Louis is his older brother.) Herbert had three boys: John, Robert and Gene. Gene was my grandfather. I knew Herbert as a child, and we have some of his things.

Peter's wife was Dorothy Schrader, also born in Bavaria. That's as far back as I've gotten on the Schrader side of my family.

Stephanie,

My 5th Great-grandfather was John Schrader who married Catherine Harmon and my fourth, Samuel Schrader. My brother's research indicate he was married to Elizabeth Rose, the mother of MOST of his children. Family tradition says that my 3rd great-grandmother (Catherine Schrader who married Solomon Talidy) was the daughter of Samuel Schrader and a Native American woman named Blue Clayfoot Settler. Catherine's birth year was well before Samuel's children with Elizabeth Rose and I speculate he was either married before or had a child out of wedlock with Blue Clayfoot Settler. I have found no more information on her, nor EVER find my Catherine Schrader listed among the children of Samuel and Elizabeth. This would be my direst Mitochondrial DNA but the test I did to prove or disprove my Native American blood did not include enough markers.

I'm looking for immigration records for my ggfather, who went by Chas. O.A. in the U.S. and was Karl Otto August in Germany, where he was born. He came to the US in 1856, settled in Indiana, and his wife, Margaret Klippert (also born in Germany), emigrated with her parents to New Orleans (so did my ggfather also come through N.O.?) Stories were that he came from Germany with a brother to escape from being in the war in Prussia (and he ended up fighting in the Civil War!) Other brothers who were born in Germany and came to the U.S. were Theodor Schrader b.August 6, 1821, d.April 27, 1893 in Evansville, Indiana; 2) Otto (August Karl Otto) b.April 5, 1834, d. in Alameda, CA; and 3) Adolph (Johannes Edward August Adolf) b. September 12, 1842 and d.in San Diego, CA.
I'd love to find out how he got to the United States...
Ah and you have an edge because you're in the area and I'm in Colorado!

My companion's father recently died. I have learned that his grandmother's family were slave-owners in Georgia; they owned Oprah Winfrey's ancestors! So I'm once again hooked. I have to upgrade my software, pull out my GedComs and get back to work. I'm more in a position now to head out and do some research. My cousin (your cousin) Chip keeps asking me to come out to Towanda and visit. Soon...

Linda

This guy continues to drive me crazy. I spent two plus hours with my son at F&M college were they have hundreds of records of Hessian Soliders. They pulled every file they had with the name Schrader or any variation therof. We were not able to make a confirmed match to any of them. In the Bradford County History he said he was at Brandywine in 1777 but his sworn pension report states he joined Puliski in New York in 1778. Confused yet??

Hi Stephanie - I'm descended from that line. Somewhere in the morass of stuff I packed up two years ago is a family tree starting with John Schrader and Catherine Harmon Schrader and down to me. I acknowledge your efforts in writing a novel about our ancestor! My mother was at the cemetery in Towanda, and there are still plenty of Schraders in the area, including Don Schrader whom I am in communication with. Your message has me more motivated to go digging through my materials to find the CD with the family tree.

He wintered at Valley Foorge and then became part of the Dragoons led by Count Pulaski. After a bloody battle in Georgia where Pulaski and his troops were mostly decimated John left the battle and moved to Towanda Pa where he was the 2nd settler. He married Catherine Harmon and had many children. I have lots of info on his life in Towanda.

Hi! John Schrader (married to Catherine Harmon) is my great grandfather x 4. I descended from the Strange family line which is a daughter of Samuel Schrader (son of John Schrader). I am writing a historical fiction novel re: his start as a hessian soldier who switched to the American cause and am interested in any detail you may have. I went to the cole cemetery in towanda last week and saw his grave which was rewarding! Thanks! Stephanie

My great grandfather is Charles Strange and we are trying to find out who Samuel Schrader's wife was...I am not sure if he was married twice, the second marriage being Elizabeth. Any help would be great as I am writing a book set in 1776 highlighting John's unique journey as a Hessian soldier who became proud American. Thanks! Stephanie

I see in your history that you have a John Sainor Carle, who married a Mary Davis. I also see that you have saved the 1880 census for Walter F. Davis. Is their a connection between Mary and Walter?
My name is Linda and I am the gg granddaughter of William Davis and Nancy Spiers. Walter is their grandson Through Chrissa Ann Davis. I have been doing research on this part of the Davis family and hope you might be able to help me trace them. They left Hickory Grove Township, Warren Co. Missouri, sometime after 1887, when Chrissa's father passed away, and moved to Pass Creek, Douglas, Oregon. Chrissy had 6 or 7 children, Walter was the 4th. Is Mary his daughter?
Do you have any information on them? How are you related? Any information would be greatly appreciated and I would certainly share my info with you. You can contact me here or my email is littleangelred@yahoo.com.
Sincerely,
Linda

My Schrader ancestors were from Prussia as well. The original family name was Schroeder but some changed it when they came to the US.

My Schrader lineage first settled in Ava, NY.

I have a family tree on here, if you want to look at it to see if it rings any bells.
